FSX/P3D/P3Dv2. It looks like Orbx's FTX Global VECTOR is almost ready, as John Venema is reporting that they're now in the final stages of beta testing it. John just posted a video showing Prepar3D v2 and the transition between default, FTX Global Base and FTX Global VECTOR in various parts of Europe such as Austria, Greece, Switzerland, Germany and up in Scandinavia.
We are keeping a close eye on this! Our recent contact with Orbx's VECTOR partner, the PILOT'S team in Austria, also confirmed that release is still on schedule to be before Christmas, which is less than 3 weeks away now. Make sure you watch the video at 1080p to see all the superb details!
Note to John: We did notice the overspeed warning on the A380 :-)

The video looks great. I did notice a lot of mesh popping in the Innsbruck and Lske Como areas shown in the video. Is this due to a very low LOD setting?
why do all the best addons come out around christmas, i have kids to buy christmas for lol, i will have to wait until january, the video looks amazing, i already have ftx global and thats the highest cost to the package
Do I notice right, there is also some landclass changes besides vector expansions and changes ?
land-classes come out over a year period starting with Europe and the u.s following, and so on, i believe Australia is last.
I'm currently using SceneryTech Europe. Will Global VECTOR Europe replace SceneryTech landclass? I really hope so, because it looks much more detailed (villages, cities, etc)?
No, since FTX Global VECTOR is not a landclass product!
Orbx is planning to release a landclass product called FTX Global openLC, which will offer coverage spanning the globe through several regional packages. More details here:
http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/61436-ftx-global-openlc-worldwide-areas-rollout-plan-details/
Should Greece look that green?
Please do yourself a favour and Google what Vector based data is and does, as your question relates to landclass based data!
Just one thought about the video - products like this should be compared to the real world, not to the default FSX. This is a simulator, so the point is to make it look as close to the real thing as possible, not to make the sim look nicer. I believe the Vector addon does exactly that, so a short comparison with a real world footage would be much more interesting in my opinion.
I might be wrong, but I think it's probably because JV uses a laptop for his videos etc.
I always mix vector with landclass. So vector will provide streets, roads, rivers, and coastline?
And LC data are cities, villages, forests, etc?
Yes I agree, that would be a great idea.
Kristian is correct in the point he makes Stephen, even if a little tooharsh in the way he puts it..
But I do hope, as you do, that by the time OpenLC Europe is released that Greece will finally be sorted out and look more like Greece. It has never looked right even with the texture changes in FTX Global but I do believe that is due to the limitations in what the FTX Global Base product is able to do and that such localised national corrections can only be made possible with a product such as the upcoming Open LC. So don't fear Stephen, I have faith that Orbx gets the job done in the end and Greece will have a lot more limestone, sandstone and white housing than it currently does and be less green once Open LC is added to the Base. So be patient buddy and fingers crossed, eh?!
I quite agree with your thought process Stanislaw. Simulation is the name of the game and the real world is beautiful enough that the sim would look nicer anyway.
Nice video all the same. Looks quite promising. I am very curious and interested to see how poor default vector areas such as India, for example, look in the sim. A country with the largest railway network in the world...would be really great if we could see some of that railway system in the FTX Vector Asia preview video when that is showcased. And perhaps some famous Himalayan winding roads. I'm looking forward with great anticipation and interest to the Asia vid to see how much closer to reality such currently sparse areas will be simulated. And then, when Open LC Asia is released, hopefully, like Greece, the landclass and localised textures and building styles in India will finally look closer to the real place too :-) Fingers crossed.
Great idea by JV doing these continental preview vids for Vector though...And the same thing showing different countries for OpenLC
showcase vids would be fantastic too :-) Here's to getting 2 steps closer to simulating what's in the real world :-) It will automatically look nice if that is done.
Cheers,
Sid
instant BUY!
Real nice, of course. And - as useall on Orbx - a definite buy.
But I still didnt found any clear description, what it is exactly.
As it is no Landclass, does it takes place of Ultimate Terrain Europe ?
Thx.
Hi all, I am not making these promo videos, it's being done by another team member from Holland, Ronald.
Greece, Turkey and other more arid parts of Europe will get their own unique LC textures with openLC EU, which enters beta next month. We had to make some design choices with FTX Global Base because of the limitations of the Olsen land class table, so we always planned to refine and localise the LC with custom textures down the track. You guys will be pleased with Greece when openLC is out, that much I can promise you.
As for comparisons verus the real world, that does not make sense. We're not upgrading the real, but the default scenery in FSX/P3D, so people want to see the impact on their sim, not versus the real world. A strange comment to make lol.
Sorry john but looks like you dont really understand simmers need on that topic. I personally want my sim to look like the real thing....not just see an " improvement" from stock textures
obviously John knows what he is talking about or he wouldn't have built a company from the ground up,the guys over at orbx have turned fsx and p3d into a much more enjoyable sim for the community.they have a done a great job.
I understand perfectly what simmers want, and that is to see what improvement the product makes to what they had before. Leave the marketing to me eh? :)
That confirms what I thought...it is a limitation in what's possible with the Base that only Open LC can and will overcome. Fantastic. I believe John when he says we'll be pleased with the more localised national landclass & textures in particular countries that OpenLC will give. Whenever he's promised such things in the past, he has delivered and not disappointed. Very excited for Vector and looking forward to some more of Ronald's preview vids ( I had misunderstood who'd done the vids) in building up to release and showcasing the same treatment above given to non-UTX areas like Asia, Africa and S. America. That's gonna be really cool to see the improvement closer to reality-based vectors that FTX Vector should bring :-)
P.S. Thanks soooo much for sorting out semi-arid parts of Greece etc. in the upcoming OpenLC John! Really appreciated and really excited to see it...I just know its going to be right and just fantastic when you say it like that. Thank you very much!!! :-) :-)
Yes, that's correct Pe11e. You've got the idea :-)
John a quick question to you, as I cannot ask in your forums, since I'm not a customer of yours (yet):
Will the airport flattening problem be eliminated with FSGlobal mesh with a combination of your products? (bash, vector, LC)
Mr Venema, your condescending attitude won't bring you more customers, I promise you that... Just saying.

"Mr Venema, your condescending attitude won't bring you more customers, I promise you that... Just saying."
You'll get used to it :)
Actually why does it have to be one or the other? I'm still on the fence about Global and the other products, partly because I don't fly outside my home country so much, but also because I don't want to replace unrealistic looking default textures with better looking but equally unrealistic ones! I would really appreciate a short section in the videos showing the real terrain as well to see how much better a representation the product is. That's not to say I expect it to be perfect or photorealistic, but just to be able to see how much more accurate it is than bare default, as well as how much better it might be visually.
