Prepar3D v2 Video: Midrange system Performance tests!

P3Dv2. Okay folks i'm back at it again with another vid showing that you can have reasonable settings with a mid-range system and still get kick ass performance. Many are concerned about the shadow technology and volumetric clouds and their possible effects on performance. Today I am here to squash those concerns and show you that even my little put-put golf cart FS9 rig can produce good results in P3D V2. Just a note, I again choose to use my iPhone as Fraps has a tendency to kill and murder frames. This is also the longest vid  of V2 you will find online at a whopping 24 minutes long! WOW! TrackIR is also working perfectly as you will no doubt notice. Sorry no landing, got a call from my wife at the end of the video... "Yes babe, i'll have the tuna sandwich please..."

I'll continue to do videos till more developers release V2 installers. As you will see in the vid, without the V2 installer, many sceneries will have problems with trees and autogen. So I am at the moment just showing the default features of the platform. I wish I could tell you how much fun i'm having with P3D V2 but that would be a no-no. It's a tool for learning people!! And yes, I did log my real-world hours last month...

Be sure to watch in high def!!

See the video here!

You forgot to mention what the specs are of this so called mid-range PC. Could you tell us what they are?

DAndre Newman said...

No I did not forget. I do a lot of reviews and editorials here. Its a bit much to list them every time. Thus my specs are in 1 easy to find location. Just look for the giant computer icon that says system specs.

Sorry, I assumed you were using another computer that is why i asked. I have very similar specs to yours but unfortunately im not getting the FPS you are getting. I also have the GTX 660ti but I am waiting for my new GTX770 4gb to arrive. Do you think it will help improve performance significantly? From what I've been reading on forums is that it should especially the extra VRAM(seems to be beneficial in P3D V2 now thats its more GPU dependant). I'm hoping it will allow me to bump up some sliders and increase FPS. Nevertheless im going to try some of the settings you have on the video and see if I can get similar performance with the gtx660ti.

About fraps dropping performance when recording, if you didn't try it already, the best thing you can do is making fraps record the .avi file on a secondary hardisk, not used by fsx.

DAndre Newman said...

You mean the file it's recording to should be on a separate harddrive? Okay I will try that for the next video.

The 4gb GPU should result in a very big difference. Your current 660ti is 2gb correct? I am currently waiting to see if over the next months nVidia offers a 6gb GPU besides the $1,000+ priced Titan.

Thanks for this DAndre! This is exactly why I come to ADX, my PC is very similar to your setup and it's been difficult to get reports on mid-range performance because most threads you see at other sites are people with the latest i7 nitrogen cooled and overclocked with a GTX 780 or SLI Titans. You've sold me man! tell LM they owe you sales commission :)-. Unfortunately I can't afford P3D atm, my disposable money will go to add-ons at all the sweet sales going on, DC-9 classic+Megascenery Earth Arizona+Flightbeam KPHX ftw baby! I'll get P3D sometime after new year when the post-holiday poverty has been restored to normal poverty =). Keep doing your thing ADX and Happy Holidays!

Hey Andreas,

Happy to be of service! When you do take the plunge, I imagine there will be updates released by then giving you a good experience. Till then, we will do our best to keep the reviews coming!
