FSL Airbus A320 Update!

FSX/P3D. Well it's about time! FlightSimLabs' Lefteris Kalamaras gives us an early 2014 progress report regarding the FSL A320. According to Lefteris, the team will soon be requesting new applications for beta testers! There is not too much technical jargon regarding development and I am not surprised. These guys are known to be quite secretive. What we did get however, is a slew of new screenshots! Hop on in and have a look! Thanks much to ADX readers Aaron Graham and NarutokunJB for the tip!

Disappointing announcement.
I dont think it'll be ready this year as well :(

Looks very good:))) I've been waiting so long for FSL's airbus...now the $1 million question is: will we see it released in 2014?

The VC looks far too bright in daylight

Was it me, or the tails looks a bit .. odd..?

It's you...they look fine to me.

I remember when I used to visit FSL daily to see if they posted any updates. Had I still been doing that, I'd be truly disappointed with this one.

It is never a good idea to visit the developer's forum daily concerning any high-end addon for FS...
The tails are fine in my eyes too, other than the mirrored and proportionally incorrect (at least that is how it looks given the 3/4 tail angle view) Air Berlin logo... look at http://www.flugzeuge.de/userfiles/126/Airbus--Air-Berlin-Airbus-A320-214_499.jpg for comparison...

This seems to be the most detailed Airbus simulation though competition so far remains low in terms either of quality (wilco) or systems fidelity (Aerosoft's choice).

However I'm under the impression that FSL are way too slow for me to follow. If they finish someday and if I don't have by that time other high quality addons that I like more and if their work is compatible with P3D v2 (or higher) that will start being the mainstream, then I might decide to purchase.

Sometimes too much delay due to focus on detail has the opposite effect.

Not to mention that updates every 10 months is not the best policy ever...

Looks very nice.... but if it will add anything I am currently missing in the Aerosoft Airbux X Extended, I have my doubts.
For sure the FSL version will be much more indepth, but if I need it is another...

FSL has always failed in communicating to the market what they have been doing. I am afraid it is too late for this bird.

At the current pace, we can expect release soon after Lockheed Martin releases Prepare4D.

They're not too late for the market - remember they are developing the foundations of a training product here. There is nothing that even comes close to a realistic simulation of the A320 on the market to date (Air Simmer was probably the best we had - though sadly it was never completed).

If the FSL A320 is as realistic as they claim, then I'd imagine the entertainment market will be but a portion of their business. I for one am just pleased to see them persevering unlike the many others we have seen either vanish or fail to meet expectations.

There are plenty of very proficient / professional enthusiasts still waiting for a realistic Airbus simulation - and it looks to me like FSL are on track to bring us just that.

I've waited so long and finally we got a lot of pictures.
The exterior model looks great. The VC is also well modeled.

The only thing to complain about are the textures. They're great but too dirty. The seats of the VC and the underside of the elevators.

All in one: I enjoy the previews and looking forward to the release.

No way any airline is going to buy this even if it's 100% realistic in FSX or P3D! There are other much better alternatives for airlines beside the obvious FFS (full flight simulator). FFS will always be nr.1 choice of airlines for training & it just can't be substituted for IRL. The entertainment market will be FSL's main income & ask you what's PMDG's main income?

CGaft - you are very wrong. The bulk of the work FSLabs are doing is aimed at making a desktop simulator training aid for the Airbus. Why on earth would they spend so much time adding so much depth that only a tiny fraction of the entertainment market would appreciate or indeed want?

I'm sure you are aware that the DCS A-10C simulator is actually based on a desktop training software used by the US Air National Guard to train real A-10C pilots, similarly the Ka-50 was made for the Russian Air Force. The P-51D module came about because The Fighter Collection at Duxford wanted something to help familiarise new pilots with WW2 fighter aircraft before turning them lose in the real thing. Is the Majestic Dash 8 Professional Edition not aimed at those wishing to learn to fly the real aircraft? Back in the 90's the Royal Air Force took elements from Digital Integration's EF2000 to train its mission planners.

Desktop simulation is a very cost effective way of training pilots in terms of systems and procedures, far more cost effective than full flight deck motion simulators. Luckily a lot of it is spinning off in our direction.

And what do you think some of the flight schools / familiarization center's are running? Certainly not ten million dollar full flight simulators (at least not the ones I went to). And besides, I didn't state it would replace FFS, you made that assumption. I only said the entertainment market would contribute a proportion of their business. I stand by that comment.

CGaft said...

I was specifically aiming at FSL & I said "There are other much better alternatives for airlines" I know allot about them. You think FSL are the first to develop an Airbus training aid? The competition in "the real world desktop training aids" is hard & I assure you there are company's with much bigger development budgets & capacity then tiny little FSL. Sorry to spoil your dreams but we are talking about the A320 here not a P-51. Time will tell who's right or wrong!

Nick said...

Again then I'll ask you why would "tiny little FSL" spend the time and money to develop a very high fidelity A320 simulation that is way beyond the scope of the entertainment market? I already pointed out to you that many of the higher end entertainment flight simulation products out there today are spin offs from real world training aids. That is a fact, even if you think it's something you may think you "know allot (sic) about". And by the way my friend, I think you'll find PMDG have their fingers in a little more than the FSX pie.

The problem with FSL is that they are a bunch of increadible arrogant devs and beta testers. My few visits at their forum were real eyeopeners. Devs and even beta testers constantly threaten their future customers. As nice as a very good A320 sim would be for me, I'm not going to support these guys.

Please provide specific posts and comments by FSLabs Developers and / or beta testers being arrogant or threatening any current or future customer.

Your post in itself is arrogant without quoting specifics instances.

Well said FSL. Make theses people speak specifics and not just empty words. These kind of people get their updates from Piratebay.

That's the result of a quick search at the FSL forum

It stops now, or this topic will be locked and the instigators banned. We do not need this stuff here. Consider yourselves warned.
-----
I wanted to draw your attention to some not so nice behavior we observed today from a (now banned) member who elected to express their disapproval of our (perceived) delay in releasing our A320-X
-----
This is going to be a very very final warning - if I see any more childish behavior, the thread will be locked and the instigators will be banned and removed.
-----
If you have something fruitful and helpful to suggest, please do so. If you continue with the trolling, you will end up being banned. You have been warned.
-----
this is actually the second time you force us to remove something. As such, you're now banned
----

And this is about the most stupid thing I've ever read in any flightsim forum:

A warning this topic will be closed if I or any of the other moderators see TOPCAT or any sim add-on software being suggested for use in real world aviation
