REX4 Direct! You want to check this out!

FSX/P3D/P3Dv2. If you have been wondering what the guys at Real Environment Extreme have been cooking up lately, wander no further! The team has been gearing up for P3D v2 and the first set of previews are stunning to say the least. The list of features is so vast, it's actually far too much to mention here on ADX. We will happily send you off to the new REX4 Direct website for all the information you need. But I can already tell you, you will not yet find the answers these questions: What is the price? Is there a special upgrade price for existing users? Will it be released before end of year? I can already say this, this is a totally new build software program from the ground up and it ain't for X-Plane. Have a look! Thank to Adi Sahar as always for the tip! Oh and before I forget: Bandwidth Warning!

REX4 Direct is the new REX Essentials +overdrive?(new themes+++??) :D Ha?

that is amazing, and i was so geared up to buy active sky next tomorrow, now it's making me rethink.

DAndre Newman said...

Overdrive and all that were addons or extensions to REX. This is a whole new system!

DAndre Newman said...

Dont blame you. REX works with Opus FSX but when it comes to Active Sky, you will need to make a choice. Personally, im sticking with REX.

Unknown said...

you mean... we will need to uninstal the rex and we have to make a new installation?

DAndre Newman said...

My guess? Yes. But i imagine the new installer will sort all that out for you.

I think my biggest beef with REX is that a lot of the colors were way over-the-top saturated. They got better with the "natural" set, but hope there would be more like it. Also, distant mountains or terrain are blue-gray, even on a totally overcast day, due to atmospheric haze. It can add so much to the look of the sim. I've seen it done with freeware sky texture sets.

Unknown said...

well active sky next still has a free 7 day trial, and 3 years of hard work i have always thought AS was better at weather and rex for textures but tomorrow we will see about asn

Sid said...

Okay, maybe not that speechless...

...there seems to be a mighty battle of seriously impressive environmental and weather engines about to be unleashed. What quality we will see. But what to do? Which software or combination of software to go for? I want the turbulence and weather features of Active Sky Next but the absolutely textures shown above of REX 4 but the multi-display support and head movements of Opus but the ease of use and fast performance/efficient resource use of FS Global Real Weather. What a bloody great dilemma!!!!! But as hdiallo said above, we win. The 'weather engineers' never let us down and continue to amase every time...much credit to them indeed :-)

Sid said...

Oops...amaze :-)

I'm a REX user as well. But once the dust settles, despite your personal preferences, can we expect a full review/comparison test of REX4 vs. ASN vs. Opus vs. FSGRW? I'd really appreciate if you guys could show screenshots of the same location/weather activity on each weather engine, discuss the differences in turbulence, include some subjective analysis of the textures, and do some kind of frame rate/performance analysis for all four. It's a lot to ask for, but I think many of us will be counting on ADX and other sim site reviews to make our ultimate decision. Thoroughness and brutal honesty would both be much appreciated.

Honestly, without HD clouds enabled (OOMs go crazy), the new textures I don't think will do much for me. It also seems that REX has focused more on textures, and are leaving the volumetric clouds/fog to P3Dv2, while AcitveSky is going to properly depict that in FSX using all their new techniques. I'm going to stick to ASN personally, especially only being $30 to upgrade. I don't see enough weather improvement from REX4 to justify buying it at the moment.

for anyone interested active sky next is available for purchase and download, just bought it

Unknown said...

I just bought it also, but its not P3D v2 compatible yet, im disappointed...

Airspeed said...

What has that got to do with REX4?

Sid said...

Totally with you there 100 % Bingofuel!

There's not many things crying out for assessment and some answers than this issue at the present time. Many many people would find such a brutal review most valuable in eventually making up their minds and deciding what would suit them best!

Unknown said...

I support the idea! I don't know, that it's because of the limitation of FSX or the weather engine, or something else, but I could never reproduce the same weather what I see through my window. Except clear skies :)

Airspeed said...

Where did you purchase REX4?

Aggressorblue said...

Looks like they're breaking this out into different "apps", which I hope translates into different purchases. I don't want to have to buy both textures and weather when I just want Textures (I use Opus for weather).

Rob de Vries said...

People should really take the trouble of reading the AS website, instead of whining about disappointments!

Airspeed said...

Or maybe read the heading of the post, which is REX4. NOT OPUS, NOT Active Sky.
