Looks like I'll be picking up the ifly bird. Unfortunately I can't buy the same jet twice.

Never really looked at the iFly bird, but if PMDG really sticks to asking more or less a double investment to get the NGX working in P3D, I will seriously look at iFly as an alternative.
Makes me wonder though why iFly doesn't see all the legal problems PMDG obviously sees.

I think they do have the same legal problems and believe this article is somewhat misleading - ifly have two versions, one for fsx and one for p3d. My interpretation of the forum thread is that you need to have purchased the p3d v1 version of ifly in order to get a free v2 upgrade - ie you cannot transfer from fsx to p3d for free.

Thanks. I did some further digging and indeed, you'll need to purchase a P3D license additionally regardless if you already have the FSX version.
Still, I don't get it why the P3D license has to cost 45% more than the FSX license, while iFly specifically states the P3D version is identical to the FSX version.
Someone please explain to me why a different license (basically a piece of paper telling you what you are allowed to do with it and what not) can cost 45% more....

The increase in cost is to cover the liability insurance resulting from the product not being licensed as an "entertainment-only" addon. P3D's EULA does not allow for entertainment use, so the products licensed to run on the platform need to be covered for training purposes...
Simple economics and legal matter...

If you read iFly's EULA, it explicitly states the 737NG is entertainment only.

People need to know if you purchase the P3D license, you cannot get technical assistance from the iFly forums. You must go through the Flight 1 ticket system. A real PITA.

Hi,

I don't think it has anything to do with legal, I think it has to do with PMDG wanting to move into real world simulation... Why?, Because that's where the BIG cash is located.

Yeah. I'm an owner of FSX version of iFly and I can't understand why should I pay 80 bucks for most probably exactly this same files, but in new instalation package...

I hope PMDG doesn't do this.

anyone know how this effects the people who paid the £10 license update from fsx to P3d fee, which turns out to now to have been only temporary ,pity they were not honest enough to have made it clear at the start what they intended to do ,the way ifly and flight1 act over the P3d vers is awful and is misleading ,they place the P3d ver on there flight1 tech site ,state it is the same as the fsx version ,charge £10 more and have a disclaimer that it is not licensed for training,if it can not be used for training what make it professional ? the word,s a load of flight1 rollocks come,s to mind
