FTX Global V1.1 Patch: the latest info.

FSX/P3D. In a statement from John Venema, Orbx still planning to release the FTXG V1.1 patch by the end of this month. Obviously, the focus has been to improve the lighting system even further including the street and vector lights as well. The team has also added intersection traffic and neon lights that glow in the city areas. They have also changed the yellow glow to be a little more orange based on customer feedback. Here are a couple shots. Looking great guys!

And not a mention about the uninstall option.

Frederik Hagedorn said...

No mention of DX10 compatibility at all, not even a whisper. Instead they spend their energy on useless scenery like Northern Ireland. Orbx have really lost the plot!

Ben Cap said...

Is there not an un-install option yet?

Truth 1 said...

ORBX are really losing there customer focus - it's obviously all about business for them now - Very sad!!

Flying Squirrel said...

Nothing about DX10 and nothing about an uninstaller, so nothing new that's of any interest.

John Venema should make a statement why he does not address these two MOST important issues.

Ben cap said...

DX10 isn't important at all.

A installer would be nice.

Anders Halstæd said...

John Venema has always been bold in the past and jumped in here to defend his company, but now nothing. Orbx released an unfinished FTX Global with DX10 not working as promised and this staement is the best they can do? Sorry John Venema, that's not good enough mate!

Adam Preston said...

Amazing how nobody in the official Orbx forums seems to question why DX10 compatibility is still not fixed and not mentioned in this patch! I guess as usual they are afraid of being banned if they criticize this blatant lack of progress in patching FTX Global properly.

Marcellus Wallace said...

I'm not so much concerned about the DX10 as much the uninstaller and the lack of clarity (or more pessimistically, the lack of honesty) from Orbx about what actually gets changed. I want a definitive list of files that are altered so I can back them up myself if I so desire. I've seen screenshots of popular airports like Aerosoft Madeira with patches of runway missing after FTX Global. Its obvious FTXG does a little more than replace textures. They need to come clean with it. I'm not going to risk the fragile balance of addons I have (including many other FTX products) without a genuine back-track route and total crystalline clarity about what exact files are changed on my computer.

Truth 1 said...

That's almost correct Adam. Anytime I mention something on the ORBX forums asking why or if I answer somebody elses question why, it normally gets deleted/removed.

It's definitely not good enough!!

Cfot said...

Unbelievable, just frikin unbelievable. Orange lights! Lol!

DAndre Newman said...

Dont know where you are from but that is a color in many cities around the world. Or were you just trying to negative and unconstructive.

Butch Coolidge said...

It amazes me how much this uninstaller thing gets drummed on. What started off as a couple of known ORBX bashers and/or competitors telling a few half-truths has just blown out of proportion.

Holger has given a quite detailed process on how to uninstall global in the ORBX forums.

I don't think Global alters any core FSX files without backing up at all, the only sources I've seen from this have been proven wrong (ie NickN's "giudes" over at the Flight1 forums).

Name another addon that has an uninstaller... this is such a non-issue.

Truth 1 said...

Totally agree with you Marcellus

Sid said...

Personally, I welcome the update and improvements very much!

Though the chap above didn't express himself very constructively and also, though you are right DAndre about many cities, I personally really, really loved Orbx's own original interpretation of such lights in terms of colour/hue. They looked so special and characteristic of Orbx. Now the colour just reminds me of UTX, even if it can subjectively be argued to be more realistic of many cities.

The way Orbx originally imagined it just had such a fresh gorgeous look. Just cos some customers wanted them more orange, I wish they hadn't knee-jerked just cos many were silent because they loved the lights so much. I even started to fly at night more often, just to appreciate their originality.

Like I say, I personally do gratefully welcome all the other improvements with the lighting system but personally would beg JV humbly to slightly roll back to perhaps a compromise hue or something between the yellowish and orange (i.e. not quite such a deep orange), just enough for them to keep that unique Orbx colour/look about them and not just the same old boring UTX-like orange. An Orbx orange, not a deep UTX orange, I guess.

Please, please, please keep some originality and uniqueness of your own yellowy orange hue/colour JV! I beg you! Customers all have their own preference of hue but I've been following the forums and only a handful of people asked for this, suggesting many, many more were quiet because they simply loved your own colour and found them realistically immersive and so beautiful. I'm almost scared of patching to lose the colour of those lights and I was even just about to buy a second copy of FTX Global for another sim just cos of those gorgeous lights. Please, please, please compromise on the colour of the orange in the final patch so the majority can be content, unless there's a way of adding a control option to FTX Central or something to offer some basic choice of yellow/orange coloured lights? That's just my personal feedback only which I simply hadn't previously given because I found the light colours so perfect and therefore had no need to but now...I guess I need to. Please don't 'knee-jerk' too hard, if its possible...by all means, try to cater for all by a compromise though.

But all that constructively and humbly said, thank you very much Orbx for continuing to work on improving FTX Global further and continuously the way you do!
Cheers,
Sid

Cfot said...

Nothing about DX10 and nothing about an uninstaller, and not coming clean about what exactly is being changed in my configs, instead they are working on lights! That my fellow Californian friend is whats frickin unbelievable!

Flying Squirrel said...

What amazes me is that this US$ 90 software doesn't have a fully functional built in uninstaller.

Yes, let's explain the quite detailed uninstall process in some forums instead. That just oozes professionalism!

DAndre Newman said...

Okay guys, your voices are all heard. Lets not keep beating the horse on this issue. It's up to the developer to do or not to do. The beat I can say here is for you consider carefully prior to purchasing the software keeping in mind it's not equiped with a product uninstaller.

Butch Coolidge said...

Again, I assert my point: name another complex scenery add-on such as this that has an uninstaller that works properly? I certainly can't.

I just don't know why it's become such an issue now.

Over and out.

Chris said...

Why would anyone want to uninstall Global?

CaptainObvious said...

Mayeb the don't like it or it's caused problems with their existing airport scenery?

Skyhawk said...

Hey D'Andre how many of my comments have you not published? It must be quite a few on this thread alone

DAndre Newman said...

No, I have published them all. You all have some valud concerns in my opinion and they are constructive and not attacking. So thats fine. But at some point you have to admit, it goes from constructive to complaining after a while. And I think the point has indeed been made.

James said...

I call BS. Not many people will be spending $100 on an addon to then simply uninstall it after a few weeks.

Chris said...

In the past Ive just deactivated Orbx scenery in the scenery library, then simply deleted the Orbx folder, and all was well. Isn't it just a matter of restoring the backup global made of your original textures and doing the same?

chino said...

wow...holger posted how to uninstall ftxg....now thats worth the 90 bux in itseft. is it also posted how to use dx10? or how to fix other paid addons that ftxg corrupted? or what ftxg overwrites(opps..orbx trade secret...shhhh) i'm glad i didn't purchase ftxg...

Bruce said...

Has Orbx ever made an uninstaller? nope. just agenda driven drivel as usual

Erik said...

I will change the orange color on the lights to white because that looks so much better like in Ultimate Terrain X. Yellow street lights just look kinda old for me and white street lights with the red traffic intersection lights will look awesome.

Anonymous said...

Funny no one mentioned the autogen issue. In another blog/forum, someon ementioned that autogen has been placing trees in runways and taxiways if you have FTXG installed. I think the complaints about not having an uninstall feature is valid when it comes to these glitches in the FTXG coding. People may want to uninstall to reinstall and perhaps that may help the issue. Working on improving something like lighting is important, but not as important as having a stable addon...just my two cents.

Bill E. Bobb said...

The "autogen issue" was explained in the support forum but apparently that explanation went over Kosta's head.

The developer of the Croatian scenery in question used a non-standard airport background texture and in default FSX or GEX this texture did not have accompanying autogen files so it worked for them. Orbx added autogen to that particular texture for FTXG and now there are trees showing up on the airport background poly.

The deviation from standard SDK methods and practices was on the part of the Croatian scenery developer for using an airport background texture that wasn't designated for use as an airport background texture in the SDK. It's not something that was caused by FTXG and it doesn't have anything to do with "core files". Had they used a standard airport background there would not be a problem with trees on the airport.

Kosta should stick to blogging about things he understands frankly.

John Venema said...

Oh dear ...

Some folks need to get out more, really. So much fud, BS and nonsense I've seen on forums on blogs in the the past few weeks it's completely laughable.

A few points, if I may.

1. The uninstaller is in final testing, please hang onto your panties while we finish it properly. I am sure the world won't end before it's released and your lives can continue. Incidentally there are a few other texture addons which don't come with uninstallers, but interestingly, no outcry and conspiracy theories?

2. We actually did NOT change the lighting colours at all, that was a (since corrected) typo on my part. However, the 'placebo effect' of even suggesting a colour change has been most interesting to observe. Relax people! :)

3. DX10 has been fixed, but not by us. We worked with Steve Parsons and his upcoming tool fixes all the shader bugs in FSX to allow our stuff to work properly. Don't blame Orbx for crap half-written shader code in FSX, that's what MS shipped and we're not in the shader tweaking business, sorry.

Finally, this blog is headed for an early grave, mainly because of childish trolls and such hatred being spewed and such juvenile behaviour that I doubt Andre is going to get any more developer support beyond the current advertising payment cycle. Certainly not from Orbx, sorry to say. I used to visit ADX every day to get a 'pulse' on the FS community but this has been ruined by idiots. Blame yourselves for this place's demise. Sad, really.

Jason Mableton said...

The real sad thing is your lack of respect for your customer base. I'm so glad I haven't put any additional money in your wallet, as your arrogance and unapologetic manner reflect very poorly on you and your company.

"Half-written shader code..."? Did MS promise DX10 compatibility of FTX Global or did you? This blog and D'Andre are doing just fine. Blame yourself for me having just decided to never buy another Orbx product again, ever!

Give the rest of us Brits a bad name, why don't you..... said...

Oh that's pure class right there.....well done mate. Right or wrong, I'm affraid you've let yourself down, imho, especially for someone who is 49 years of age.

Just so that you know, if you had come on ADX every day, you'd have known that it's Dandre.

No respect. No class.

Oh what money does to people....

Anonymizer said...

Guys I doubt the post from John Venema is real. If it is actually real, then I feel sorry for anyone associated with or working for Orbx.

Charles Whatford said...

Well then, perhaps it might be better to communicate with customers more effectively in the future.
1) I did not know an uninstall would be available until now.
2) Funny to see peeople whine but I don't get how you can get something as obvious as that wrong.

...and as to advertising, D'Andre and others at ADX have repeatability stressed that the blog is not run by ads but rather for news. Ads are a nice side income to help pay bills but incase you have not noticed John, Blogger is free! I am sure D'Andre will continue on with the pulse news updates as always without ORBX support.

JV...I can't help but feel you dug your own grave here but not making sure basic things were in Global from the start such as an uninstaller. You said nobody else complains about rival texture replacements have no uninstaller. Are we forgetting something? People paid $99 for your FTX Global so I would like to think there would be an uninstaller included.

Oh...and never a good idea to offend customers because every business depends on them unless it has forgot what its real purpose is.

Aerosoft is a perfect example of excellent customer communication. Just look at how well they handled the DEX crisis. Professionalism at its best. Aerosoft will continue to get my money whereas ORBX won't. I have bough all ORBX EU regions(bar N.I), FTX: Global, ORBX PFJ and OEBX SAK but I shall not be purchasing anymore after that comment.

And if you think 1 customer, well let me tell you this. I worked in a very sucessful company and we began making the same errors as you are now doing, mainly outsourcing to lower quality firms (Sim720) and not including basics things with a product (uninstaller in your case). 1 customer left us, perhaps another a few months later. It was insignifcant in the grand scheme of things because we have thousands of customers but one day the penny dropped on management and they realised that all those dissatisfied customers added up and the business was no longer viable.

Just my $0.02 JV, I am sure you don't care about me and my future business anyway.

When you apologise and accept responsibility for your own failure to deliver something that was promised, then you will earn people's respect.

Truth 1 said...

Those comments from you John have just closed my wallet to ORBX. I have bought every single one of your products (apart from your latest NI) and this sort of attitude from you is very disrespectful - and childish.

Bye ORBX

Ben Cap said...

D'Andre is doing a great job btw. Please don't die.

William Henry Gates III said...

Given how easy it is to post under any pseudonym here, how sure can anyone of the readers on ADX be that the above post really came from John Venema, or even any other employee or associate of OrbX?

Best to get hard evidence before making such sweeping statements...

DAndre Newman said...

Indeed that was John and whereas I believe he should have handled his feelings differently, clearly he is upset about my allowing the readers to comment as they do on ADX.

Could that lead to other advertisers pulling out? Possibly. 3 have already chosen to stick with me.

Ultimately, all the money covers is the ability to purchase products I personally don't want, for purposes of reviewing them for those who do.

But I will maintain. I never joined Dom to contribute on ADX for money. I did it because I wanted to give back to the community. And it's why I still do it. I have a passion for this hobby and for those talented people who create the amazing addons for it.

My wife asked my would I continue to review Orbx products now that John has chosen not to renew his advertising and my answer was absolutely.

The developers of Orbx are the true talents behind the company and they are the people I admire.

I would never hold them hostage of not reviewing their products over an ad. That is not what this blog is about and not what I am about.

But I respect John's decision. As for me, as long as i have the time, the engines will keep running.

FYI I will start posting for assistance soon if there are a couple of good lads looking to join ADX.

With some of the emails I got, there are quite a few indeed!

Anders Halstæd said...

Wow, John Venema could not have handled that more unprofessionally if he tried.

I'm happy to know that despite what John Venema thinks, a lot of people here are echoing similar sentiments, meaning he has messed up big time.

This is one of the few places that allows uncensored opinions on Orbx products and obviously John Venema can't deal with that.

We're with you all the way D'Andre, you're doing a fantastic job. The fact that John would actually write that this blog is headed for an early grave is more than despicable.

I will never buy another Orbx product again!

Anonymizer said...

What a shame to see someone like John Venema post such drivel. I feel sorry for all the people working for Orbx, they deserve better than a leader with such poor communication and PR skills.

I guess he underestimates the power of his current and future customer base. I encourage everyone to boycott Orbx until he issues an apology. We should setup a Facebook page to encourage a boycott of all Orbx products.

Anders Halstæd said...

How weak is a developer that does not allow uncensored criticism of his products. John maybe you should move to Iran or Syria, I hear they support your kind of mentality!

Hasselblad-User said...

Any developer who has their forum designed and setup around back-patting and doesn't allow any criticism, needs to have their head examined. John Venema obviously can't deal with real-world criticism and likes to live in his alpha dog bubble.

As Truth 1 already said....Bye ORBX

DAndre Newman said...

Thanks for the support guys but please do not allow your feelings here to keep you from buying Orbx products. Because now that im sure i'll no longer get review copies of Orbx products, I dame sure will buy them. Its the developers of Orbx that are responsible for be getting so heavily invested in P3D in the first place. The developers of Orbx should not suffer because of the actions of their company leader.

As we speak I am flying my Alabeo Staggerwing from Swanson to Felts Field. I love Orbx products and i'm sure all of you do too. If you all were not so passionate about Orbx, there would not be so many comments.

So I encourage all of you to keep buying Orbx sceneries. Support these hard working developers. They deserve every bit of money they get and some.

DAndre Newman said...

I am and always be a fan of all the work they do. And rest assured, il be doing a full if Bonners Ferry the second its released!

DAndre Newman said...

Simon Montgomery said...

Sorry, but if I was an Orbx developer and saw John Venema's statement here I would immediately terminate my contract with him.

Anyone with even an ounce of integrity should disassociate themselves from working for him.

Stefan Schwarz said...

Admirable effort D'Andre, but if I was you I would pull all Orbx ads and cease all reviews until he issues a public apology. You shouldn't have to put up with his rudeness and neither should the developers.

What he has done tonight here is not okay. Please show some integrity.

DAndre Newman said...

I hear your points guys, but I choose to support the Orbx developers. And John has paid for his ad and it will remain till the time expires. As individuals, you may do as you wish, but these products are too damn good not to have them. Besides, I know many of these developers and I greatly respect them.

1 bad apple spoils the bunch does not always apply.

PhaseOne User said...

Ditto Hasselblad user.

Couldn't Agree More said...

I'm with you D'Andre 100%.

Many of these developers (quite a few we all know by name) are the best of the bunch. I'll continue to support them, irrespective of the politics that goes on. We very rarely here from these guys publicly, and I know that most would be feeling pretty disheartened from the bashing that goes on here and elsewhere.

Much like you (D'Andre), I get the impression these developers are very passionate about what they do, and do take the comments directed at these products quite personally.

Don't like JV? There's much more to ORBX than just one person.

- ADX is feeling a huge gap in the community in letting all people express their idea.
- Some trolls do exist and do visit us at ADX every now and then.
- some very good points were brought up here regarding issues with ftx global.
- John over reacted clearly and it's too bad (I can make the difference between a troll and a non troll as most community members can). reading critics allow you to have a good idea on a product. It includes critics from trolls, they may be exagerating but we have a brain to judge that. Aidailyx does well in letting everybody talks and express themselves... its an open place and everyone can voice what they have to say...
- Dandre reacted so well here... keeping supporting developpers behind orbx and keeping this place opened...and not starting a censure of posts in order to keep money coming in...ADX just showed me here how much they deserved my trust...

This place is great... some people will always try to make a fuss of nothing but don't you think john..... that we are all thankful for the amazing products you brought to us.... you clearly have won the 1st place in the community (for small airfields and regions)...

but we have the right to discuss here about the integration of other products with your own product....to discuss why on earth an uninstaller wasn't there to start with... after all, you have used us to such an high quality of stuff that we were expecting you to deliver what other may not provide (uninstaller).

Orbx, Dandre, you clearly chose the right path there.
I will clearly keep buying stuff from orbx...which is right after aerosoft, my favorite developer considering quality of product isn't everything...

Kevin Firth said...

Hi D'Andre, I'm disappointed by reading JV's comments above. I haven't always agreed with his viewpoint, and have respected Orbx's position as a developer in how they do things and what they bring to market. Some of their products are very good, and from being someone who owned zero Orbx sceneries I have moved to purchasing some. This was in part based on respect for the quality of products but partly also on the quality of the communication and listening that JV and staff seemed to engage in on their forums. The comments above put that latter view somewhat in jeopardy for me. There will always be people around who will adolescently knock any product, sometimes especially more so when it is very good, because they get some inane kick out of it. I understand that JV would have been unhappy about some of the views that have variously been expressed, but would have hoped that the majority of customers are quite capable of discerning between trollish rants and evidenced fact, and that JV and co could have trusted us to be mature enough to observe the difference and make our own independent minds up...as I have. I'm disappointed by how he expressed his feelings, but everyone of us is human and sometimes we act far more on impulse than perhaps we should. I've seen JV roll back some comments he made precipitously at least once on his own company forums, and I sincerely hope he'll reflect back on his post here and edit it. I may choose to but some orbx products in the future, but I'd rather buy from developers who I respect and trust, not ones where I hand over money through gritted teeth. Some people may not like Orbx, (if they cant evidence any views ignore them for we surely will) but that's just a price for living in a free society.

Kevin Firth said...

Good reply D'Andre, I'm with you...

Kevin Firth said...

John, there's idiots everywhere, the trick is to ignore them and let the non-trolls work it out for themselves :) I will continue to support ADX as its a fabulous source of news and updates, including for your own products. A few trolls and stupid comments don't change that.

Chris Strobel said...

D are you 100%SURE that was the real JV? It seems like really odd behavior for the CEO of million dollar company. Anyway I guess its a foreign concept for some that we do this for the love of a hobby vs. income. When I was approached by the CEO of Flightdeck Air Combat Center, and asked to build it, I was told up front there would be no salary at first, I said no prob! When do we start! A day latter I had the whole front end of a F-16 sitting out front in the driveway, and felt like I should be paying him!lol (I did eventually get compensated)Several other real life payed flight simulator projects have popped up, but I'd probably started those on my dime too if asked. You've handled this in an extremely mature manner, and have much more respect from a lot of us than JV does, if that's really him that is. Onward flightsim solders :D

DAndre Newman said...

Yes he confirmed it but I really don't wan't this to become a beat up on John thread please.

Chris Strobel said...

In my opinion the man needs a little tough love to put it nicely. He dissed you pretty big time here, and as I said you handled it pretty mature, but don't go TOO far the way of the nice guy, or your gonna loose respect from some of us. Just saying.....

DAndre Newman said...

Now we are discussing a completely conversation here Chris. I am not here to earn or loose anyone's respect. I am devoting my free time to running this blog. Something I honestly don't have to do. It that doesn't get respect enough, I can always quit. I don't have time to concern myself about weather or not I have respect from people I never met.

Chris Strobel said...

"Now we are discussing a completely conversation here Chris."

Huh?

The need for respect is human nature my friend

"It that doesn't get respect enough, I can always quit. I don't have time to concern myself about weather or not I have respect from people I never met."

You do realize that statement is a logical contradiction?

I was just trying to stick up for you and your blog, and offer some support, but think I'll just bow out gracefully from this blog. Your still welcome to come down to Anaheim any time and jump in the 738 sim on me.

Good luck

DAndre Newman said...

Thanks Chris I may have to do that some time. But just keep in mind, I don't like the threat of loosing your respect which is sort of basically what you did. Again, if the hard work I do here is not enough to have respect by default, I am not going to work any harder for it. I should not have to. There is no other FS news site that gets quality news, reviews, and FirstLook's faster and more often than ADX. That is the point of this blog. Not having to deal with this comments issue.

I let you guys speak up. Please don't make me regret it.

You have handled this very well DAndre - very mature as others have put it :) I just feel that JV is being a bit of a bully in his comments here and how dare he say comments like that about your site - we all know he doesn't like bad things said about him.

Anyways, I've said all along that most of the products a great - the developers do a fantastic job - but it's FTX Global (lack of uninstaller etc) and JV's attitude that has let them down.

I wonder if a company can be sued for not providing an uninstaller? - haha just a thought !!

Obviously we cannot know without D'Andre's input whether John Venema attempted to contact ADX before posting this. It is a little bizarre to choose this channel for a rant of this nature.

I do believe that OrbX bashing has become a flightsim community sport unfortunately. John Venema's forward approach to PR and marketing has probably not helped, but I don't see him "changing his ways". In the end, the potential customer has to decide for him/herself whether the product supplied does what the customer would like it to do and whether it does "what it says on the tin" as we say...
OrbX is not the cheapest addon developer, but in my eyes they are certainly high quality addons that they put out. I am in the lucky position to be able to buy pretty much what I like in terms of FS addons, I realise that I am in a fairly privileged position and that not everyone can do this. As such, I have quite a number of OrbX addons and will continue to buy, knowing full well that OrbX is not just John Venema.
To be honest, it is exactly the sort of comment I would have expected, though I find his choice of medium strange. His comments aimed at ADX are unfair and he does come across as the spoiled child who doesn't like being badmouthed outside his own territory (where he can control more what is published and what isn't). The sheer nature of ADX allowed him to do what some would like to over at OrbX directly but cannot, given their restrictive censorship and ban policies. Food for thought, maybe. Perhaps a more open OrbX forum?

The comment made above as to OrbX "outsourcing to lower quality firms" and then highlighting sim720 is quite simply insulting. Sim720 is doing a grand job I feel. I suppose the next insult will come implying Lars of 29Palms is also one of these lower quality firms hired... hmm...

ADX is truly the one most effective news site for FS at the moment, the only real one-stop shop. Aerosoft's daily newsletter or whatever it is called, I apologize, is good, but is not quite on the same level and doesn't have the depth of news. Avsim is simply too slow to compete. It is here that I have learned of most developments in the FS addon market. If I had more time (2 children at searly school age and a VERY busy partner, leaving me to do all the routine stuff with the children...), I would try and contribute more. As it is, I send you guys the odd e-mail from time to time concerning development and projects that you may not have noticed so far...
Keep it up. It would be a far less rich and varied place without ADX... God forbid I would have to rely on AVSLOW for my daily news fix :)
