FSX/P3D. Well, I suppose you can call me diplomatic if you must. But this time I chose to display all 3 flags that I believe represent the region of Northern Ireland in their various facets. Among all the places around the globe I have visited in my short lifetime, I reflect on my first visit to the city of Belfast at the age of 22 where I came across some of the most intuitive and insightful people I have ever had the opportunity to meet. Many of these people quite literally changed the way I see the world. And here, Orbx has changed the way we see this beautiful countryside in FS! So let's have a look at FTX NIR!
Now today, the weather did not cooperate with me at all. But then again, whether you are in Northern Ireland or South in the Republic of Ireland, the weather never cooperates. Not freaking EVER! But as a person who is part Irish myself, we have a saying here. If you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes! So with that said, I departed Ards airport in my lovely Waco and set out for a lovely ride about the country side!
I remember my very first impression, actually, my very first feelings when I landed at Aldergove for the very first time. This feeling stayed with me as I drove my little Volkswagen Golf from Belfast down to Dublin on the A1 motorway. No matter which flags fly over either part of this island, the official color is and always will be with out a doubt: Green!
I say this because if you have ever been here, well you know. Everywhere I looked, green, green, green landscape. It's truly one of the most beautiful and scenic places in the world. And without a doubt, the fellas at Orbx did a magnificent job in capturing the true look and feel into the flight simulator.
But like with the FTX New Zealand products, there is 1 major issue I have that will likely keep me from visiting this part of the FTX world on a regular baises. I am talking about the lack of quality payware airfields.
A major issue with me, ever since I first discovered my very first payware scenery back in 2004, is I just can't fly into default. it's like the equivalent of eating liverwurst. It just feels disgusting to me. So without some quality airfields out there, i'm afraid the airspace above this lush and beautiful green canvas will remain closed till I have a proper place to land.
In the mean time though, you can clearly see, FTX NIR easly lives up to all the expectations Orbx has set for these products.
That's Holywood off to my left approaching the historical dockyard where the Titanic was built.
Okay so if I may grumble for just a bit, I was pleased to see the city hall added in the city center, but that was it. Where is Castle Court? Where is Thompsons? Okay kidding about Thompsons. But no Victoria Square?
Here it's all seemingly a bunch of randomly scattered buildings. A cluster F$%& if you will. This really could have been done much better as was done in Edinburgh for example. Even the many small generic towns in FTX Global are represented in a much better fashion.
Besides this, 2 major landmarks are missing. Where is Carrick Fergus Castle and Belfast Castle?
Well for what it's worth, this was the 1 and only thing I was displeased about the scenery...
Everything including the ground colors are spot on!
Very crisp ground textures!
Oops, how did those edited shots get in there? whether quality airports in the region are important to you or not, you must admit, it all looks damn good!
