What is / isn't FTX Global ?

Rob Newman (Orbx team), has published a very interesting post on FTX Global, using schematics. Simple, clear. And it will help some of us to better understand FSX.

Why do we have to register to read that? That information should be public. I am tired of having to register everywhere just to read an article.

Wouldn't it be easier to say, that FTXG is simply a texture replacement?

Fabo said...

It would, if people understood. They have been saying this for months and people still think it is UTX replacement.

Not if your tagline is "Upgrade your sim!" :-D It looks like a very good texture replacement, although in some areas it looks really bad.

Sure, but looking at allt hose posts and threads it looks like 80% still dont get the concept and know what FTXG does and more import what not and therefore keep complaining...

Yeap, real funny: they expecting wonders on FTXG and getting dissapointed without any suitable landclasses, like UTX. And always the same compatiblity questions about addon airports, meshs etc...

This helps me understand, but at $90 this should include landclass, mesh, vector, and everything else. Basically costs nearly twice as much as FSX cost when it came out. For ONLY replacement of default autogen textures? No thanks. Wish we could have an all-in-one graphical replacement -- now that I might be more inclined to pay $90 for.

Think about it Anonymouse:
Add the cost of UTX (all regions currently available, $35 per region, 4 regions, plus UT Alaska X at $40) FSGlobal, or some other mesh ($50+), landclass addons outside or available UTX regions, then GEX for all the regions...
You are way over $90. But you want all that for only $90...
If you look at GEX alone, as a texture replacement, current coverage is 5 packs, ranging from $35 to $45. One is to be released soon, price yet unknown. If we stick to the known prices, the five available regions will cost you just under $195. So the world is going to be over $200 for GEX coverage. That is over twice the price of FTXG. And GEX is also only a texture replacement...
Of course you can opt to stick with the FSX default textures... at no extra cost...

$90 is not a small amount, but for what you get in comparison with what is already on the market, it is not a bad deal at all...

Your choice...
