openLC & FTXGlobal. What you need to know!

FSX/P3D. With FTXGlobal due for release next week, there seems to still be many questions about the upcoming product from potential users. This morning, John has laid out a very detailed explanation regarding how it all will work, what you will also get, and how it all fits together. I could sit here and try to explain it, but lets leave this to the man with the best expertise.  Next week just can't come fast enough! Come see what he is talking about.

Too much news about this product! I am bored with it even before its release!

Well the words 'Twotter', '777',and 'skiathos' come to mind :)

Just Cause your bored doesn't mean the rest if us aren't! At least a few times a year a big product comes along that simmers get very excited about so lots of news tends to revolve around it

Well you might want to stay off ADX as we will be covering this quite a bit in the coming weeks. People want to know how it works with their favorite airports and we are planning to cover as many as possible.

I'm assuming we un-install GEX and let this take over. Is that everyone else's take?

Is this a joke ? not only do we have to pay for the textures, but to be able to get the most out of them, we'd have to lash out another 19 AUD TIMES 5 ????

Is this a joke or has ORBX lost their mind, marketing speaking

Well said, DAndre!

Probably yes as they both replace textures.

Last week I posted a message saying that I thought Orbx is becoming overly greedy and a whole bunch of people, including John Venema from Orbx, chastised me for that.

And here we have it, further proof. Whether you buy one openLC pack or all 7 openLC packs, they are always the same price, totally ridiculous! No incentives, nothing to reward customer loyalty with discounts, they are really totally greedy.

Nobody forces you to buy the product. If you dont agree with the policy - just ignore it....

I tend to agree. In today's market it seems disrespectful towards customers to not offer them a bonus, discount, loyalty points, call it what you want, but at least something that makes the customer feel that his loyalty is appreciated and rewarded.

I did not like the arrogance John Venema displayed in his response to Timmy74 last week either.

well i had to admit that the price for the world + the LC would make it expensive how ever if we compaire it to the regions to buy of GEX and UTX it gets to the same level if not higer for all regions.. i would say that the LC is split in to smaller pices so you can pick what you like and thats fine but we first have to pay for the hole world of was it 99 AUSD i mean i saw.. thats nearly 3 regions of GEX to use as ex only EU.. it´s a bit of my limits and i just wounder they say ENGLAND airports and such dosent sell as they hoped and they would stop creating if it dosent changse..

I think you get a reason here we pay for things over lapping each other as well. + UK airports are the small ones a bigger might give a better sale..

But in general people has already payed a lot of money for GEX and utx, FS global so in the end i realy want to se how this is gona sell as we already spend lot´s of money on it and whit the prices + forced to buy the hole world in 1 pack and buy seperate DLC you could call it is no good solution i guess but we see

They are entitled to make a living for their work. Nobody makes you buy anything. We just have to decide what we want and what we want to leave out, same as all payware. I own a lot and there's a lot I don't own.

INFORMER said...

Thats right but in the end it´s stil a mater of how many copys sold if to expensive you get less costumers and even the price is higher then you could expect them buyeing cant pay for thos that dosent. so the income would be lower then it could be..

So the point in you decide if you want it or not is right but for a company the amount of costumers you get is the important thing whit a balanced price.. so making money for the living could cause a less sale if the majority decides to show them the back.. Thats my point here..

I am able to swallow the price for the Open LC but that's because I thought it was going to at least have the vector data with the landclass, not textures and landclass. The main reason I wanted FTX Global was to eventually be able to expand to this level around the world but now I'm worried because it won't do what I had hoped or lead to that end. I know UTX has vectors in its landclass but it only covers Europe and North America but I don't need it there because my FTX regions will cover those areas over time and UTX can fill the gap where it doesn't.

The main problem is, my justification to buy FTX Global was to have a superior world to what I have (with UTX & GEX) in the parts of the world where the vectors and landclass is just completely s..t frankly, namely Asia, Africa and S. America. And I thought Open LC would allow me to expand FTX Global so that those particular areas at least had much improved vectors (at a very minimum main roads and coastlines) and the issue default left us with there would finally be fixed. Now it seems the FTX Global route is also a dead end to achieving that. At least if they'd have done a FTX vectors as a separate add-on for Asia, Africa and South America Open LC that would make it worth it for me, as there's no UTX or other vector add-on to fill that gap and its a horrible gap seeing those ridiculous straight and angled coastlines and totally fake road systems. These are so important for flying VFR and make things more like a proper simulation, not just pretty textures (which I agree are nice in themselves).

The problem for me is I am worried now. This is why...Currently I have all the UTX and GEX add-ons...They also don't cover the majority of the world with vectors (not Asia, Africa & S. America). I therefore have to question that even by investing in the FTX Global base pack + all the Open LC I still will not get the 1 thing I hoped this pathway would get me eventually...vectors for these ignored regions (not the regions where FTX region packs or UTX can fill the gaps...I'd always take a FTX region pack over anything. Moreover the only difference I'd have with all this investment is improved textures but not useful vector data for flying in these other world regions. What to do now? I'm simply so gutted! Even if they could have said they'd do some kind of partial improvement of roads & coastlines (plus some basic other vectors such as large rivers, lakes possibly, not mesh) for these ignored regions where there will never be region packs, I'd buy in and buy in fully with it all as it will make the most useful difference to flying.

I saw the FTX Global pathway as something I only wanted for regions that probably wouldn't ever be done by Orbx. As I'd buy the regions for those areas & don't need FTX Global for them half as much. I'm sorry, I'm not having a go at Orbx, I love all their stuff and buy it, I'm just genuinely gutted and need to get that disappointment out of my system. I was avoiding updating my GEX separate add-ons to the GEX world interface because I thought I'd get some extra vectors and things in the rest of the world. Now I really don't know what to do. Just literally stuck. I so wish they'd consider some kind of basic vectors package for non-FTX region areas to go with FTX Global. Think I still won't do anything hasty just yet or buy either FTX Global or GEX World until I see how things go for a while or my brain makes its mind up with what to do. I'm sure FTX Global will do well though...the textures are nice...its just my personal disappointment in what I thought could come from it. Best of luck to Orbx, truly! They're a great developer. Thanks.

There seems to be a few negative feelings towards this forthcoming release and I can't understand why? What you're getting is a complete overhaul of the textures for the WHOLE sim and for me it's a no-brainer. Yes you will have to purchase extras for it, it would be madness for Orbx to not make that the case. Much the same as you have to purchase extra airports for regions you are interested in. They've also gone to great lengths to ensure that other sim add-ons play nicely with FTXGlobal too.

Such is the quality of Orbx's products it says a lot that ever since I've installed PNM and EU: England I haven't strayed from these areas once. Purchasing this will enable me to get out in to that big ol' wide world again and for that I will gladly send them some of my hard-earned cash :-)
