Night lighting done right!

FSX/P3D. One word: Superb! But not only are these lights brighter, deeper, and more vibrant, but guess what?  You will not need to use the FTX Day and FTX Night apps to disable the lights during the day when using FTXGlobal! That's one less thing to forget to do before you fire up the sim! Lookin' great!

It looks good. So what happens when the day/night transition happens in mid flight?

They turn on, simple as that, but you will not see them at high altitude. :)

They're aiming Saturday as a day of release unless if there won't be delays ;)

Just checked at FL40 - they are still quite visible when looking directly down from the aircraft, but your LOD settings will restrict how far you can see them into the distance.

Thanks John. Could you maybe post some more shots from high altitudes. As a IFR-Flyer only i will be spending much more time from there. Most pictures yet were from rather low level...

Thanks!

What LOD value was set in fsx.cfg when you took these amazing shots ?

John Venema said...

LOD was 4.5 for all shots except the last two Paris ones which used 8.5, although I did not notice a lot of difference really.

We have just tweaked them further and with the default 4.5 LOD the draw distance for the lights is very impressive anyway.

I hope that the lights work in separation from the rest of the autogen. I mean not coupled to the houses. If you have UTX lights and dark GEX night ground textures and disable almost all houses in the fsx.cfg file you can do beautiful night approaches in the most busy airports with the PMDG NGX with real good frames and very realistic visualls. I asked ORBX about this but I think they have not implemented it.
