ADX FirstLook! FTX Scotland!

FSX/P3D. Now we're talking! As much as I love FTX England... As much as I love England in general, let's face it, the terrain can be perhaps just a bit boring... But now you needn't worry. FTX Scotland is here and boy are we impressed. Not only is it the exact opposite of England terrain wise, but it's a VFR simmers delight! There is so much to discover in this part of the UK and perhaps the most exciting. So come with Dom and I as we board our brand spanking new CT206H and tour Scotland!

Now ultimately, we wanted to show how all the UK2000 airports blend in but we just didn't have time. I did however test the scenery with UK2000 Cumbernauld and can tell you that it does blend in well except some floating trees. We had the same issues in FTX England with Luton. Now as Scotland is such a huge area to cover in such a small FirstLook, I decided to focus on areas that are my personal favorites! This scenery is a must have and I highly recommend! FTX Scotland is officially the best looking landscape I have ever seen in FSX/P3D! Now all we need are some nice airports to go with it. FTX Scotland is a must have for all PNW fans! Long story short, I love it! Enjoy!

Possibly the most expected region in United-Kingdom, for all these typical Scottish landscapes.

Nice shots! How is it frame-wise, playas?

Anonymizer said...

Weird how your screenshots look totally different than those posted by Orbx, I mean I find your screenshots totally unflattering, they do nothing to make this scenery look appealing.

DAndre Newman said...

Frames are quite good actually! All the autogen houses are well optimized so basically the same like FTX England. In the more rural areas my frames shot up to my limiter at 50FPS.

DAndre Newman said...

The P3D shots or the FSX? Anyway, I have my own custom settings and I don't use bloom. Sorry. But you can always go back to Orbx and look at their screenshots if you prefer. Wink!

Thanks, man.

Todd said...

Yeah, no ENB used. Looks very flat and washed out. But thanks for the first look guys. I don't post on Orbx any more due to over-zealous moderating, but want to congratulate them on Scotland. Looks grand so far in my sim.

DAndre Newman said...

Todd, are you referring to all the screenshots? The ones at the top are P3D and the ones at the bottom are FSX.

We may not be the best when it comes to screenshots they all suck?

Todd said...

Hi DAndre, the ones at the top are a little more vibrant, but I can tell they are pretty much raw FSX or P3D. The sim in it's default state doesn't look very realistic. I wouldn't say your shots suck at all, but would benefit from ENB or Shade. Also time of day helps too.

DAndre Newman said...

Yeah pretty raw. Ill play around a bit.

DAndre Newman said...

But people complain they want to see shots without ENB and shots not over edited... So a bit raw is not a bad thing. But it always looks better in the sim than the shots ever display for some reason...

Very good comment about perfering non edited screenshots. Try again and do not post as anonymous...

I have had a quick fly around and it looks great. Nice to fly from Orbx Wales and Cardiff up to somewhere like Inverness. BUT, I have noticed that MyTraffic 2013 has scenery conflicts with the Orbx Scenery - the updated scenery files for Orbx were conflicting at Cardiff and Inverness (and I imagine a few other airports) - taxiways were skewed and AI aircraft were moving on grass and in strange places. If anyone else is finding this an issue, head to MyTraffic folder in your FSX/Prepar3d and go to Scenery and search for the airport ICAO - if you then switch the file from .bgl to .off all is well again. Bit of a random tip but I'm sure I cannot be only one who had this issue so hope it helps! Orbx scenery obviously better then standard and MyTraffic stuff too!!

I prefer non-edited too, but I'm not sure the quality of these shots has anything to do with Shade or ENB. I'm not a fan of either if I'm honest, and think ENB is one of the more over rated utilities in use today.

It does look like there may be some over compression going on with resizing and saving the shots perhaps, some "jaggie" issues that could be improved, and maybe some view limits set to help with ground blurring. Having said that I appreciate the effort to shoot some unaffected shots of a product to avoid the typical marketing ploys.

With respect to what I see, I'm a little underwhelmed as well when comparing it to the Pacific Northwest products. Perhaps it's less of a reflection on the product itself and more of a reflection on my preference for the area, but in either case I'm not sure this one is for me.

I own it, and personally I think it's a tremendous product. Just as good as Orbx FTX England. Also, for those who are worried about integration with UK2000 airports, it all works perfectly fine. I'm running UK2000's Glasgow and Edinburgh add-ons and it fits just right into Orbx (just need to make sure that they have a higher priority number in the FSX scenery list).

We are working on a second part of review.
And i can assure you too, UK 2000 Glasgow and Edinburg are really sleamlessly integrated, including roads sections !
More shots this week.

One for the list... There is just so much good stuff being released at the moment, that I will probably have to wait until mid-month...

Wow,nice scenery.

OK so how do you please everyone all of the time? Answer: you can't. We have the "I hate ENB/Shade/etc!" crowd who complain about plugins that darker/mod the shots. So now we have some shots from the ADX guys without plugins and people still complain, LOL!

If you want to see hundreds and hundreds of shot from customers who have purchased and installed it, across a whole variety of PC setups and plugins, edited, raw, good, bad, and otherwise, simply point your browser at the Orbx FTX Community Screenshots forum and see for yourself what other experience on their machines:

it looks OK.
I personally think OBRX tends to make their screenshots look A LOT better than their products actually are ...

Carrot said...

How do you think they do that?

Sid said...

Hey JamesHongKong,

I've got the same problem but with Traffic 360. Have only tried it at Aberdeen so far but exactly the same issues. I don't know much about how to play with files and things but wondering if anyone else has the same issues and figured out a fairly simple way to solve it easily with Traffic 360? Just wondering.

It looks pretty good in FSX. I prefer NO ENB, too many crashes and problems, not worth it. I'd rather have stability and no shading than shading and problems. Anyway, UK2000 Glasgow and Edinburgh fit in fine as long as they are at a higher layer. Do remember that ORBX supplies it's own AFCAD files, I park the AFCAD for EGPF and EGPH from Orbx elswhere so as not to interfere with UK2000 AFCADS for those airports. The blending is better at Glasgow. A couple of small patches are needed around Edinburgh airport to blend better...still pretty good.

ENB and photoshop I think.

Carrot said...

Each time somebody throws out accusations of Photoshop JV states it isn't used. I wouldn't be quick to accuse anyone of falsifying ads. I think they just pause the game and crank up the settings

Someone stated that the Orbx Scotland scenery blends in perfectly with the UK2000 airports. Here is an example of Edinburgh:

http://oi42.tinypic.com/2ngy3bs.jpg

As you can see the Orbx scenery is a lot more lush and green than the airport, particularly when u look at the airport grass textures, which appear totally dried and washed out.

Todd said...

You can forget the photoshop drama. My sim looks just like their screenshots and I'm using ENB.

WinWin said...

Keep in mind that UK2000 Edinburgh was released way before FTX Scotland. Maybe they should update Edinburgh to match the FTX Scotland textures? They probably wont do it but I'm sure it'll gain more sales if they did.

It's a win-win.

ALE said...

Gary at UK2000 originally designed the UK Airports series to blend in with Horizon VFR photoreal scenery as I understand it...

The blend is fine enough for me. I just need to upgrade EGPF/H to the current versions, and Shuttle here we come...

I was mistaken. Everything looks fine after all.
