Video - Orbx FTX Global Hong Kong

FSX/P3D. Another Orbx FTX Global preview video - this time, default FSX versus FTX Global over Hong Kong. Again , the increase in autogen density is quite noticeable. This looks good to me. See inside for more.

Quick video description by John Venema of Orbx:

"Another comparison, unlimited FPS, no ENB, no other addons, virgin FSX install of FTX Global with trike."

Ok so let's drop some large chunky autogen buildings down onto Kowloon and call it FTX Global Hong Kong.

Here, reality vs FTX Global

vs

It may look good to some, it sure doesn't look good to me.

Sorry, not sold unlike the so many daft comments in the developer's thread again.

How much are they asking for this add-on ?

Anonymous said...

It looks passable, but I don't see any of the taller 30-story tower blocks. Also the autogen isn't dense enough.

Here's a better pic of Kowloon, taken from Lion Rock. You can see Hong Kong Island and the skyscrapers in the distance.

Why don't you start comparing to default/GEX instead of reality?

Anonymous said...

All FTX Global does from what I can see, is repaint the textures more green and add some buildings that are different to what the standard FSX does now.

The problem is that the buildings look totally out of place, as you cannot just drop generic European or US city style buildings into an Asian Metropolis like Hong Long. It just looks totally wrong and out of place.

Yeah, it might look passable from FL 410, but then again so does the default FSX from that altitude.

Anonymous said...

Go ahead, be out guest, what are you waiting for?

Unknown said...

Remember, this is not FTX Hong Kong. It is not meant to customize every city but to improve on the existing default autogen and textures.

Anonymous said...

These previews are really boring guys.

We all know where the Orbx forum is if we fancy a nap.

Any real fsx news out thtere?

Anonymous said...

Why fly to the Maldives if you can bathe in the pristine crystal blue waters of Kowloon Bay LOL

Anonymous said...

HAHAHAHA....good one!

Anonymous said...

After you...

Unknown said...

You realize only 1 out of the last 10 posts has been FTX Global related?

Anonymous said...

Yes ok, but every metropolis has its own particular style of buildings. If FTX Global cannot offer any improvement on this, then what's the point?

Every city we have been shown has the same style of large buildings - Hong Kong, Cairo, Athens, Copenhagen, Johannesburg, Tel Aviv, Boston, Amsterdam, Los Angeles - it basically all looks the same and in reality they couldn't be more different.

Simulation is meant to be an immersion of simulated reality, there is nothing here that comes even remotely close to being simulated reality of these cities.

Anonymous said...

I was thinking the same thing. Not only do the building look way off, the water looks way to Tahiti like for Hong Kong.

Anonymous said...

It's just the competition getting worried!

Anonymous said...

Very well said.

Anonymous said...

How so?

Anonymous said...

How about some more screenshots of the very soon to be released Flightbeam scenery?

Anonymous said...

Yes please, talk about shove-it-down your throat marketing from Orbx, so tired of the same unconvincing videos and screenshots of FTX Global.

Anonymous said...

Yes, it looks and smells like FTX Fail.

Unknown said...

Sure, but then FTX Global may not be for you. If you want a completely accurate representation of cities you will need much more specific scenery.

The scope of FTX Global is what it is and doesn't claim to be anything else. Criticizing a product for not being something it never said it would be in the first place is not reasonable.

Anonymous said...

GEX has autogen flex. I think it's better

Todd said...

Talk about people refusing to inform themselves about what this product does and then spouting stuff that is absolutely ridiculous. I think we need to rename this Kiddie Korner instead of AirDailyX.

How big install size will FTX Global be? just a ruff GB nr will do..thanx:)

I think that's the point where you guys at ADX should consider some registration to make a comment. As a daily reader, I'm so pissed off these trolls and haters, I check the site almost every hour if there are new posts or comments, but these are not the comments I'd like to see. I know the trolls don't care what I want, but I don't care about their opinion. I'm not an ORBX fan, maybe I will buy FTX Global, maybe not, time will tell. But what some of these guys are doing is simply disgusting and so childish.

The FTX Global autogen does not look very realistic for a complex city like Hong Kong. If you still fly (closed in reality) Kai Tak, some autogen buildings seems blocking the final approach path. I know it may be unfair to compare it with other renowned add-ons like FlyTampa Kai Tak, which have lots of realistic customized buildings. Anyway, everything compared with FSX default will sure be a winner...

VHHH said...

Not many cities would have so many identical looking buildings everythere. It seems that FTX Global will look more realistic in places such as Pyongyang, DPR Korea...

Unknown said...

To the post: I think the biggest mistake ORBX made, that they didn't include their landclass in the base pack at an increased price (120 dollar besides of 100), and post screenshots from that product. Everybody would have been impressed, and the trolls couldn't say anything. There wasn't any complain about the price yet so 100 or 120 bucks doesn't matter, nobody would notice the difference.

My single biggest concern is how all of my add-on airports will integrate with FTX Global.

I have hundreds if not thousands of EUR worth of add-ons and I already now have issues with FTX England and FTX Wales not being compatible with all the rest of my European scenery, other than Mykonos and Skiathos, which have just been patched very recently.

None of the FTX Global material shows how it would integrate with add-ons like FlyTampa Athens and Dubai. Then there is FSDreamteam Zurich and Geneva, and the list goes on. I have Switzerland X, what will happen to this area, will it integrate or not?

Most add-on scenery designers have made their scenery in such a way that it will blend in naturally with the default FSX world. If you now change the colouring and vegetation of the area immediately around an airport, then it would only seem logical that the add-on airport scenery will no longer blend in as it was originally designed to. An example:

The FTX Global material on Athens showed very lush green vegetation. The FlyTampa airport area isn't anywhere near as green. So does this mean that the airport area will stick out like a sore thumb? This would be something that would kill the realism and immersion factor for me.

I look forward to Orbx addressing such issues, as I think most of us are worried that FTX Global will not integrate with all of the add-ons we already own.

No, the point is we are being spoon-fed material that really doesn't look that great. Comments on YouTube have been turned off and all you see in the Orbx forum are the usual suspects saying "whoppeee how wonderful".

It really doesn't look all that great and IMHO is being hyped up to be way more than what the visuals currently show.

Anonymous said...

Orbx don't believe in us having any add-ons other than their own material. They don't care about how their products integrate with other add-ons, if they did, then their European scenery would at the very least integrate with other non-Orbx scenery.

Why are Mykonos and Skiathos patched and nothing else? Simple, they don't care.

Anonymous said...

You hit the nail on the head my friend!

Anonymous said...

You are correct and that is my fear. I hate to have all my stand-alone sceneries messed up because of ftx global. John Venema mentioned that regardless of what the minority says, a lot of people will buy the product. I disagree. Once the first few customers buy the product and see the damage done to their stand-alone sceneries because of incompatibilities, the rest of the buying market will decide against it. Just mark my word.

FTX world is going to be great. Its' exactly like as if I were there in Hong Kong.

Thanks for posting AirdailyX. Keep up the great work. Hope to see more stuff from ORBX here.

Anonymous said...

The whole Orbx marketing push is designed so that a maximum number of copies get sold on the day it is released, before all the problems come to light.

Once all the problems with FTX Global's incompatibility with all those add-ons out there start circulating on the Internet, the sales will have a very dramatic decrease.

So it's a simple strategy really, go for a massive sales push for release day, as nobody will know about the problems until after it comes out.

You will see, there will be a brand new OOM audience and I suspect a huge wave of complaints regarding incompatibility.

After reading many posts here, we already have time travel. Can one of time travelers give us the Lotto numbers please for next's month draw?

Anonymous said...

You must be a great fan of Disney World :P

Anonymous said...

Time travel for you, common sense and logic for others.

Mark Smith said...

This new scenery is going to be great. Low and slow with the Piper cub.It sure is going to beat the FSX default textures and with constant updates that will included with the purchase, it will constantly be evolving.

Another great thing about the scenery is NO one is obligated to purchase it.

Todd said...

Spoon fed? Then why are you even looking at this preview? Especially since it appears you've made your mind up already. Orbx has every right to preview their product as much as they want, just like any other developer. It's marketing. It's business. You have every right to look at it. Or not. Personally I appreciate them giving us all the previews they can, so I can use them as part of my decision.

Consider some moderation AirdailyX

Anonymous said...

AirdailyX, this lack of moderation is a new low, I just removed my bookmark for this site, farewell

DAndre Newman said...

We are currently discussing how we should about moderating comments. This surge in comments is fairly new so reat assured, we are working on it.

DAndre Newman said...

We are working on that. We are trying to decide the best methods while still allowing the use of the blog to be open to our readers. We are growing at an alarming rate. Much faster than we projected so please bear with us.

Anonymous said...

Moderation or is it censorship? Orbx fanboys only like phony cheer.

Enjoy Avsim....

Anonymous said...

This website could be in breach of the defamation laws in quite a few countries, be careful guys

Anonymous said...

It's only phony when you don't like it, right? Sounds like you may also be in favor of this censorship you speak of!

Anonymous said...

Defamation laws? What on earth are you talking about? There a quite a few genuinely good points being made here.

Anonymous said...

The only lack here is Orbx's lack in providing some sort of explanation how they intend to guarantee the integration of FTX Global with all our existing add-on airport sceneries.

Anonymous said...

You moderate and folks will start leaving. Why moderate a perfectly open unbiased discussion forum? This is the only reason why I come here where I can express myself without fear or favor.

DAndre Newman said...

Please never threaten to leave. The door is always open for folks to come and to go. Many of these comments aganst Orbx is pushing it. I understand if there are concerns about FTX but some comments attacking Orbx should not have been published and we will have to take responsibility for that. There will be stronger moderation in the future if commenting continues to go from constructive to inflammatory. We like that many of you want to speak your minds, but many of you are also hiding behind Mr. anonymous, some comments that likely would not be said if your real names were poblished behind them. We have no wish to "censor" anyone but there are some taking advantage of the situation and its those folks that will force us to make changes. I think the FTX horse has been beaten. However, please refrain from any more attacks.

Many of the comments are constructive and thats fine. But lets please keep this a friendly place. This blog is for you all, the work we do is for you all. Please remember that. :)

Anonymous said...

Open criticisms (anonymity or not), whether constructive or not, is the hallmark of ADX since Manson started the blog and that is the fundamental reason why most of us are still here to participate. We've been with Mason and ADX since the beginning. We helped make ADX what it is through our participation. Many folks don't express themselves openly without being intimidated by moderators as is clearly evident with other sites such as avsim. Rather than moderating this blog to death, why not do what you've been doing all along and that is to censor vitriol language and threats. Criticisms against products and developers come with the territory and ADX and developers alike should accept this fact. You cannot simply "protect" developers from criticism through moderation. Once you start accepting registered (named)posts, that will be the slow death of ADX, believe me. You will be left with just a few registered commentators and finally end up like other dead fsx blogs.

DAndre Newman said...

If readers take advantage of the privilege things will have to change. Period. If you don't like it, you are welcome to leave. The blog is growing and changing and things are not what they were back in 2010. That's a simple fact of life my still anonymous friend. It's interesting you love to give your opinions so strongly yet no balls to even sign your name to them.

No other FS site brings the kind of daily news, and product insight the way we do. But keep in mind, the readers do not run this blog. We love all the freedoms shared here and we do not wish to censor anyone. But history is clear, give a man an inch, and he will take a mile. We do have standards here and it's not the wild wild west as you seem to think ADX is.

Anonymous said...

Ahh, very typical of you Andre. When you don't like criticisms against your remarks, you resort to personal attacks. There has been evidential trail of your dislike for folks who say it like it is, mildly or not. You should learn to be respectful to your contributors. "...balls to sign in.."? Why have a blog with "anonymous" as an option and then turn around and attack user criticisms when the anonymity aspect doesn't suit your mood? If you want registered names, then start a real forum for us to register and participate. You can't have it both ways now, can you?

DAndre Newman said...

Indeed the forum and site is in the works. And rest assured, we will no longer allow anonymous comments. Also you have a very backward way of looking at things and the more I see your writing here it's clear i'm talking to a teenager. Perhaps mommy and daddy censor you too much at home and you feel that this is the place for you to do as you wish but it's not. And in the coming days, it's likely the anonymous will be removed. Again, you have such strong opinions, but by being anonymous, you are not really standing by your words are you? So continue hiding out in the world of the Internets, but things are going to change weather you like it or not.

Mark Smith said...

There is a huge difference between free speech and slander as well as constructive criticism and a destructive attitude. Onward we go.
