Orbx returns to Heavies too ?

A freeware project of Auckland, shown on FSdeveloper a few months ago.
FSX/P3D. Orbx here, Orbx there, Wales, Cardiff, South Alaska and now ? Auckland Intl airport NZAA. John Venema has just posted today the scoop. And is even opening the door to more heavies..
To be continued..

Orbx forum, today :
Posted by John Venema in Release Announcements
A broken promise means I have to swallow my pride when I said "no more international heavy airports".

I am pleased to announce that we are 50% through development of NZAA Auckland International Airport which will join NZQN Queenstown Airport for NGX-ready flights in Middle Earth.

Preview screenshots coming soon.

Let the controversy begin ..... :)

And some more international airports could also be announced in 2013 ....

Great to hear Mason! Thanks for the heads-up!

More like half a heavy. Still very nice.

I got a unconfirmed rumor that ORBX will also do AMS intl airport after they have finished the Netherlands

That's a great unconfirmed rumor... Talking about airports, John answered me telling me they are discussing ADELAIDE! It's in the forums to read!

Their previous heavies were a frame hog and ground textures were very blurry. I really hope they stay on GA, that's their area of expertise. Don't get me wrong, lover their stuff but let the other guys do the heavies, they haven't mastered that greatly.

Let the guys who did a perfect job on YBBN go first.:-)

great news!

"A freeware project of Auckland, shown on FSdeveloper a few months ago."

That airport is included with Orbx/FTX NZNI New Zealand North Island.

Has John Venema ever mention doing YSSY?

That right, let the heavies to others. Too much system and VAS load. YBBN is the only airport i get regular FSX CTD´s. What about some updates on heavies first before releasing lots of new products?

Excellent news, I was from Auckland and it bugged me why Godzone didn't release a NZAA scenery for FS9.

I shot a few training approaches to this airport IRL during IFR training a while back, and IIRC they had this rule of "160kts till 5 DME" which is like yellow arc in a light twin.

Not sure about this. Love all their ga airports, but their large airports border on slide show status. Hopefully they produce something that is actually hand fly able. Even with ybbn, I end up relying on auto land and then sit back and watch what seems to be a PowerPoint presentation.

hahah, cruel but true; YBBN could melt super computers.

Credit card is ready!

YBBN is a real overload with all that lighting and so on... in a region of FSX that is already taxing for some reason...

If FT can do it, so can OrbX, it is just finding the right balance between detail and usability... without overloading the VAS...

I have an i7 2600 (no K) with 3GB of Video and 16 of RAM... It flies great in YBBN and YMML all maxed... I wonder what rigs you guys have...
For those that say ORBX must stay doing GA airports: I say the best International airports I have flown to all are ORBX. Their quality is amazing. Of course, expect powerpoints if you have old (that once were powerful computers), i3's or i5's... What do you expect? Many companies now are using all the technology they can lay their hands on for modeling and texturing...! Safe skies!

The good news is, YBBN was one of ORBX's first airports. It learnt a lot on that one, reason why they made it better with their fixes. They are getting better and better in scenery. No company makes perfect stuff on the first products. A lot of people seem to judge too quikly on a company's first products. ORBX now has a good know-how in it's DNA, so expect the best! Safe flying!

That says nothing. What setup, what resolutions, what aircraft, what envorinment resolutions, what aircraft, what AA settings? Approaching YBBN with PMDG NGX after a 4 hours flight, second leg in sequence on real weather?
VAS of FSX is filled up until 4GB of memory, no chance.
