FTX Wales Cardiff (EGFF) - Final Build Shots

FSX/P3D. John Venema has released some final build shots of Cardiff International Airport which has entered final testing! The airport will be included free with the FTX EU Wales release which is slated "hopefully" for the end of month. This project really does look fantastic. I'm very interested in the performance of this airport – especially given that Orbx seems to be venturing once again into larger scale airport projects.

That ground needs work. Too blurry. This is the problem with Orbx and huge airports, they use photo scenery for their aprons. That doesn't work. For sure you can use DX10 but it looks sloppy and unfinished. I will stick with UK2000.

Looking great.. hope performance will be good too..

Looks good in the thumbnail, and then that ground hit ya. not pretty.

Why need to take down a developer by releasing this free ? this is dumping at its very best!

Dumping? Are you serious!!? I have my credit out already for FTX Wales and because they provide an NGX compatible airport you slag them off ... sounds absurd! Seems to me in your eyes Orbx cannot win. You would complain about price gouging for releasing a small region like Wales, and then accuse them of dumping for including an international airport.

As for comparisons to UK2000 - this looks 2000% better from every single perspective - and does UK2000 have 29Palms quality modelling, five seasons, Orbx "Flows", and the overall polish and finish of this airport. Not even remotely so.

Sometimes I think people like to be critical just because they have nothing better to say.

Bring on Wales, orbx! Hopefully sooner than two weeks away!

If you look at the pictures on the FTX forums you can see it does look uweaker up close. Worst than UK2000? Probably. Plus, its in Wales! A place no one wants to go.

Still, its free & looks fine from 200ft.

But most people are going to spend most of their time at the airport on the ground, where the textures are awful looking and disappointing.

Honestly the buildings look good. but the ground messes everything up.

Exactly, that has already been the problem with YBBN and YMML - i dont know why they stick to this "ancient" method. Everything else is really pretty - but the one thing you gonna see each time you land are those ugly, blurry ground tiles.....

Why on Earth do they not use proper ground polys like on their little tiny airstrips?
IMHO there is no comparison here to the UK2000 offering which has proper high-res ground polys with complete markings and lines, rather than a blurry mess like the Orbx version. Still going to get Wales but will be disabling this version of EGFF. Those ground textures are just awful.

Ground polys are too much work, and blending them with photo scenery is a difficult task.

Its not finished without detailed ground! Ground polygons are a must these days. Photo tiles really suck.
This is freeware too. No excuses.

Are you for real?

That scenery pales in comparison to anything from Orbx. Please don't insult our intelligence with that link!!!

There is indeed no ground polygon - further, the airport will use the default FSX runway and approach lights. However, John Venema has stated that performance is extremely good.

No ground polygon like FTX Melbourne or Brisbane. Absolute no go. I'll stay with UK2000.

UK2000 all the way. This looks rushed for a buck.

uk2000 are amazing. baffled why Venema makes such poor desesions. The ground here is a absolute show stopper plus my uk2000 Cardiff is lovely.

JV just posted on their forums; they are adding a ground poly now. Probably based on comments here and on their forums.

Sounds to me like they respond to critique a lot better these days, kudos to them for that.

With a 92Palms ground poly and still being free with Wales, this is now a must-buy for me. I was on the fence before but I'll back a developer who listens and responds. Nice one Orbx!
