Active Sky NEXT released!

FSX. Very interesting. With the news of REX preparing to roll out it's next product, ActiveSkyNext has delivered on it's promised release date of December 9th. As for which product will be best, that's anyone's guess. We still don't know at this moment what the REX4 Direct's pricing strategy will be. I can say this for now: ASN's pricing is as follows: $30 for current customers looking to upgrade and $50 for new customers. I have heard rumors it's not compatible with P3D v2 but have not confirmed this myself yet. So he question now is, should users buy now? or wait for the next update of info from REX. That's up to you...

Active Sky Next by HiFi Technologies is officially scheduled to release on December 9th, 2013. A fully-functional 7-day trial will be available, letting everyone find out first-hand how ASN can dramatically improve their simulation experience.

HiFi Technologies are also excited to announce that they are holding a Video and Screenshot contest for ASN! Share your artistic creations with the community and you'll have a chance to win cash prizes!

The ASN video and screenshot contest is open to anyone using ASN (trial or registered) with FSX.

$300 cash will be awarded to the winner of the best video, and $150 awarded to the winner of the best screenshot.

The contest will open simultaneously with the ASN release, currently planned on December 9, 2013. The contest runs for 7 days and submissions can be made at any time during this period. Multiple submissions are permitted. Judgment will commence at the conclusion of the contest submission period, and the winners will be announced within 7 days after that. Submissions should be made to http://www.hifitechinc.com/forums/fo...10-The-Gallery.

The winners will be chosen by HiFi Technologies staff.

Hi, As an owner of Active Sky 2012, I am very interested in upgrading over to ASN. Sorry if this has been asked/mentioned previously but do you know if AS2012 Owners can get some sort of discount for ASN? Or is Price info not out yet?

Chris F. said...

Well since my birthday is on the 9th, this will be a great Birthday gift to myself ! :)

From their website:

Will an upgrade/discount be available for past AS users?

Yes. We will be offering an upgrade path for past AS version customers. Eligible version will include ASX, ASA, ASE and AS2012.

You, lazy boy.

Now, an indepth comparison review of Weather simulation software packages for simultaneous Prepar3d v2/FSX use...that's a future review could do with and will most definitely be keeping a very, very keen eye out for. Would be great if that could be done when things settle down a bit and all the various developers have their installers/packages updated and released.

ASN is indeed compatible to P3D v2 ... but not now.
The P3D v2 Version is currently in development and should be released relative fast. It is then a separate ASN Version, but no additional costs are charged for ASN FSX users!
Would be nice, you add this facts to your initial news.

Read and you will find the answer.

i bought the asn upgrade, i am using active sky's 2012 textures with asn, the difrence in real time weather is night and day from earlier versions.i bought it last night as soon as the sim market had it posted.

Me too, but it cannot works w/ P3Dv2, as mentioned before, hold the upgrade!

I am also getting an error. It says "ASN cannot control ambient weather parameters correctly, thus it cannot function properly at this point and will shut down." It immediately shuts down and the new weather and the application disappear. This frustrating because it leaves you with no way to fix it. I purchased the upgrade version. The weather that initially appears for about 5 seconds is stunning. They need to fix this immediately.

no p3dv2 support = no buying.

I fixed mine by reinstalling FSUIPC, you might want to give it a try!

the p3d v2 support will be released within 30 days

If only people like you would bother to read the information readily available... There will be a separate P3D version of ASN, which uses the same license as the FSX version. So when the P3D version is released, you can use both the FSX and P3D version with the same key.

Wow, some real P3D evangelism around here these days. At any rate, really looking forward to trying out ASN, even if it is in my lowly FSX. Looking forward to some of the new features.

Tried it in a foggy location in competition with OPUS as gold standard. While I liked the depiction that ASN provides, I saw little difference from OPUS. The "break out" at cloud base was as effective in OPUS as in ASN. Of course, ASN has the radar and precipitation stuff...

In direct comparison on my OC i7 2700K (4.8GHz) and GTX670 (2Gb VRAM), I saw better performance on OPUS (which runs on the FSX PC) than ASN, which was running via simconnect on a networked PC. I am guessing the standard configuration of 5 cloud layers along with enhancement of the overcast was perhaps taxing. I was flying around EDDV Hanover in both test cases, and I noticed marked stuttering turning back to the airport, once the airport came into view, with ASN. The variance in frame rate was indicative here... I saw variances up to 50% in the default Cessna. With OPUS, I rarely saw variances over 2 or 3% during the whole test.
It is great that HifiSim offers the free trial. However, I must add the trial is linked to IP address, which changes every 24 hours where I live. This is a situation enforced by ISPs in Germany, where the connection is reinitialized once every 24 hours. This effectively means that your 7 day trial is only 24 hours. I need to to confirm this, but going on what I had to agree to in order to download the trial and obtain a trial licence, I would assume that the trial no longer works on my PC...
If anyone could confirm this, this would be important to pass onto HifiSim. If confirmed, it is a little bit of a damper to the "7-day trial period".
Whatever you say, OPUS has certainly got some stiff competition from Active Sky now. It was hands down OPUS winning in the race between AS2012 and OPUS. Now, the playing field is more level. I am gong to stick with OPUS, as I have it running well enough and smoothly. Before any decision is made for the future, I will wait and see what the OPUS team are going to bring in the form of OPUSFSI...
Either way, the future is bright for FSX/P3D...

"This effectively means that your 7 day trial is only 24 hours."
We tested this trial system over several weeks (re-anabled the period after 7 days of course), also in Germany without issues. Also with slow internetconnections "auf dem Land". Doesn't depend on ISP I would say, but I'm not sure about.

If you have problems with the trial period I advice you to file a support ticket

I have the same problem, tried to reinstall FSUIPC, but did not work. :/ HELP!
