Prepar3D v2 Cloud Surfing! Our Own Video!

 http://airdailyx.blogspot.de/2013/11/p3d-v2-cloud-surfing-our-own-video.html
P3Dv2. I'm still putting time in and discovering all P3D v2 has to offer. I can't really properly review it until I have fully and thoroughly discovered the inns and outs of the platform. Today I went flying among the clouds! or.. rather, through them. When the guys at Lockheed Martin stated that the new cloud rendering technology was more realistic, it can be difficult to imagine exactly what they mean by this unless you experience it for yourself. I thought it was so cool, I whipped out my iPhone and took some HD video to share with you lot. It is really amazing! See for yourself!

Great video, much appreciating the coverage. Orbx has commented that they have to go through their products, and make adjustments to some objects, this may explain your problems. I am still downloading, and will install FTXGlobal, and then will wait for updated downloads from Orbx.

I share your great joy as to how realistic the clouds are. Volumetric was "all talk" until Prepar3D Version 2; no more billboards. As soon as PMDG announced the future support of P3D and Lockheed Martin spoke of how the clouds were totally realistic I decided to dive in - I may have been among the first few who had V2 installed about 2:30 am EST very early Monday , and I have been enjoying the cloud surfing routine a lot.

awesome video!! the new clouds sure seem to be a game changer and is exciting to see what REX might come up with for this BEAST.

I have been enjoying V2 alot so far, though I do notice that the volumetric fog can really kill frame rates for me. The clouds are much nicer to fly through though. Hopefully with a newer build I can get most from it.

Amazing video! What addons (if any?) are you using here? :)

Nice vid. Installed P3D V2 yesterday myself, but I fear my computer is too much on the low end of the requirements (i7-920 @3,9GHz with a 1Gb HD5870). I've been fiddling with the settings to create an acceptable performance and eventhough it does help, it makes me fear what happen when I load it up with addons. I also get the strong impression there are still some nasty bugs.
I will continu to test, but I might end up going for the refund and wait until I have a faster computer (at least a better graphicscard with more VRAM) and the first update has been released by LM.
On the positive side; I do see it has a lot of potential and once the bugs are out and the addons have been adjusted (when necessary), it will be a worthy successor to FSX.

Yes they did it all with the first version of P3D and sucks they have to do all that work all over again but I think it's worth it. I am patiently waiting for them to get it done. Till then, I have V1.4 still installed.

What I am really looking forward to is descending through thick thunderstorm cell clouds from the high FL's and emerging on the bottom end. And vise-versa. I get a really good feeling we will be seeing many updates to V2 over the coming months. Based on what I see so far though, V2 is deffo the way to go for FS9 and FSX simmers. I imagine over the coming year, they will start really looking at the 64bit code. Hopefully developers will get a jump start and start coding all new products for 2014 64bit to get in ahead of the game.

Yes they are already cooking up an update! BTW, in the above video is REX Essential Plus Overdrive.

I'll start playing around with the fog soon as well.

Besides REX, just FTX PNW, FTX NA 1S2, and RealAir's Lanceair Lecacy. I'll be installing FSGlobal next by way of simply activating the same files i'm using for V1.4

Frank, your specs seem to be much better than mine and I am getting much better performance than V1.4 your specs should do okay just don't push it. Try to keep the same settings you use in FSX. Keep in mind, you don't need to use all the new features here.

At the base level, one of the great things about P3D is how much more stable is is over FSX. Still some bugs but the great thing is, they are being worked out whereas FSX is just dead on a platform support level.

I will surely try that. Thanks.
One of the things that annoys the crap out of me is the slow buildup of the screen during startup or when switching views.
When the flight has loaded (popup reached 100% and is gone), the screen remains black for almost a minute. I do hear the aircraft sounds and when I move the mouse, obviously there are some switches underneath. Then after a while (close to a minute) the panel pops up but the scenery outside the aircraft is still not there (just a light blue nothing). Then the scenery builds for another 20~30 seconds and then I can start flying. Now when I switch views (F11) to the outside, I do see the scenery, but no aircraft. It takes a good 10 seconds before I see the aircraft model being build up...
Tonight I'll defrag my drive to see if that helps.
It might also have something to do with the registry error I had during installation. I placed a question about this on the LM forum, but no response so far.

I have that issue as well from time to time. That is a bug they are working out. The good thing is, there is an active team fixing bugs. I personally don't mind the bugs so long as they are being worked out. Still keep your FSX for regular use as I do for FS9 and P3D V1 and P3D V2 for testing as they continue to improve on it. As the updates continue to roll in, I am expecting to pull back from V1 further and further till I don't need it anymore.

Hey DAndre and everyone. Just a little heads-up in the rare event and unlikely you were not aware, but there's a Triple-installer, all patched to latest version, of FTX Global now available on the 'Release Announcements' public section of the Orbx forums. Just in case you wanted to install a that way directly into P3D v2 and ready-patched, rather than activating the v1.4 files. I appreciate you may well be fully aware of this and simply want to avoid downloading the new Triple installer for all 3 sims to save time though. Either way, enjoy and thanks for the constant updates...really great and very much enjoying sharing your journey of discovery into new heights :-)

Cheers,
Sid

Looks great DAndre. I'm going to wait 'till all the developers catch up a bit before purchasing. I see it will be the new platform for sure. Please keep the nice shots and Info coming.
On A side note, there is one thing that I am noticing and that is the constant amount of posts in pretty much every forum with the same question, "I'm having P3D V2 issues". I'm pretty sure all the developers are working hard to get set up for P3D V2, a little patience is needed and things will fall into place it is definitely going to be worth it.

And thats also always been my purpose with ADX. I take the hit and roll in the mud so you don't have to! ;)

Definitely progress fruition is being made here. I really appreciate the vid D'Andre. Especially the stability in cloud popping. I saw no indication of this behaviour in your recording. I must ask; however, are you using any (3rd party) weather engine? I will share that with OpusFSX (3.6.0/1) my FSX fog (although not volumetric) and flying through the clouds are simulated very close to what I'm seeing. Its one of the main reasons I switched from ActiveSky (vast improvement in weather generation for FSX - that is for me). But what is most noticeable in your vid is far less popping and that as you uttered is most certain a draw to Prepar3D V2. And the shadowing without fps drops, OH man!!! Man I look forward to more of you discoveries and experiences. I can foresee my migration to Prepad3D in the next 12 months. (Like most much vested in FSX after kicking and screaming to leave FS9). Notwithstanding, I have seen the light and relish the future of our Beloved Hobby/training Software :).
