P3D 64bit modding tools now available!

P3D. FS9 and P3D are the simulators I call home. But with P3D, the biggest thing holding it back is the fact that it's only a 32bit executable platform. Well there is some good news, at least for developers. The Prepar3D development team has released an update to the Prepar3D v1.4 SDK which includes new 64-bit modeling tools. The update is free to owners of the current Prepar3D SDK and allows developers to create  richer and more dynamic content for Prepar3D. Which is MY platform! Now let's just make the whole damn thing 64bit please!

Yea they gotta just do the whole thing. I get the needs of the developers, but what developers without customers? It's waaaaayyyy to much tech out here for people with new rigs to go through such hardship for stable and smooth performance. My rig has great capability but its collared by the limits of both platforms FSX and P3d.

Guys, they have to give the developers a head start. Just like how console creators give development kits to game producers.

I agree with you 100% but this kinda thing is way the heck overdue. Yea yea FS has seen some rocky roads but we can't make excuses for everything. Not directed at you but in general we have a lot of catching up to do.

P3D seems to become an interesting alternative to FSX... One thing that does continue to concern me is the fact some major addon developers (among PMDG) remain reluctant to support the platform due to liability issue's. By the marketing of P3D as a professional training tool, developers have to take their liability into serious consideration.
I guess this is mostly important for aircraft developers and a bit less for scenery devs.

It would certainly help if Lockheed-Martin would also publish a consumer version of P3D which might technically be the same as the professional version but with a different EULA.
But to my understanding, LM is prohibited by publishing P3D as a (game) consumer version by a contract they signed with Microsoft at the time the bought the FSX source code.

Am I right in assuming that they will only release this if they are going to update P3D to 64 bit? Otherwise I don't understand the advantage of being able to develop in 64 bit for a 32 bit system...I foresee more OOM's!!! Note to FSDT, don't develop Vancouver in 64 bit if P3D stays 32 bit - I will get an OOM before I can even throttle up! ;-)

This is great news. A BIG step forward in development process/speed/quality.

Customers must be as happy as developers right now.

Great news, as this has to imply a new version of P3D is going to be released in the very near future!

As for PMDG: it is one of the only major developers that doesn't support P3D. The liability argument they make is now a very weak one, as iFly, Quality Wings, Aerosoft, MilViz, Carenado, RazBam, A2A, LevelD, CaptainSim, and soon Majestic Software have all decided to either actively support P3D, or have allowed their products to be used in P3D. Represented in that group are all the major commercial and GA aircraft manufacturers, including Boeing. I think PMDG is a great developer and they are good for the flight sim community, and I hope they join that list soon. But, as you can see, P3D users have plenty of quality add-ons to choose from.

The reason PMDG is not supporting P3D is because of their's cooperation with Boeing, primary it's Boeing & their lawyers who has a problem with P3D....of course PMDG will never ever admit that...fearing all the P3D fans will start a cyber ranting war against Boeing....

Boeing and its lawyers obviously have no problem with iFly supporting P3D, so I'm a little skeptical of that argument.

PMDG has very close cooperation with Boeing, they have the real Boeing FCOM for NGX which is copyright protected, a hotline to Boeing technicians & engineers, RS Randazzo did an real Type Rating with Boeing for the 744....does iFly has all this? & do they provide an real FCOM?

This does NOT point to a new 64bit P3D. It simply means developers can use 64bit 3DSMAX everything exported with these tools is still FSX and P3D 1.4 compatible. It just lifts the restrictions on modelling.

Correct, for a long time I have been compiling my work on a 'Super computer' but still using tools which are designed for a Pentium-3, everything takes forever to do, now it speeds everything a more, so to just reiterate this has NOTHING to do with a 64bit FSX/P3D
