Oh Crap....

Really Short Rant... Well, it happened, the moment I have been dreading for months and months, the total FSX reinstall... The massive number of software installations and uninstallations has finally taken its toll. I've been noticing everything starting to bog down, and stutters where there were no stutters before. No doubt, it was time to take the jump. So what does this mean? Hours upon hours of install, reboot, install, reboot, install, reboot....

-First, into the bios to undo my overclock, reboot.
-Next, take the opportunity to update the bios, reboot.
-Might as well update the video drivers, reboot.
-Maybe also update Nvidia Inspector, reboot.
-Then of course actually install FSX, reboot.
-Followed by SP1, reboot.
-Of course followed by SP2, reboot.
-Then onto a ridiculous amount of time installing software and rebooting...Orbx alone could take days...
-After all that I must reapply FSX.cfg adjustments, reboot.
-Lastly, overclock once again, reboot.

Not much of a rant...but this is going to suck...

I'm always running a clean install of Windows when FSX is really starting to stutter..

I feel your pain....reinstalled FSX 4 times this year, each reinstall
takes a good week to do...I HATE REINSTALLS!!!!

I find complete FSX reinstall much more frustrating and time consuming than complete Win7 reinstall. Damn.
Every time when that damned moment came, I know that I will pass FSX flying for couple of days, due to reinstall of massive amount of addon software. Yes, FSX has a BIG plus over X-Plane because of amazing number of fantastic addons, but when it is time for FSX reinstall, you will start to curse FSX like mad. :)

Fun aint it ;( This last time I just left my overclock stay where it was and everything installed and runs perfect just like when I clock her back to stock. Sandy @ 5ghz

Maybe you guys should practice regular maintenance on your rigs and you would not have to do this. I've had FSX for 3 years now, not a single re-install. No stutters, no CTDs.

I run registry booster at least once a week, and with SSDs there is no need to defrag. Not much else you need to do there. As long as you install and remove according to manufacturer's instructions, no big deal. But you have to maintain an organized setup, especially with a lot of addon products. It is more work on a daily basis, but it avoids re-installing constantly, which is just plain ridiculous.
