Market Zoom : 1st quarter

First quarter new releases are rather low and establishes FSX domination over FS9. April and May are usually stronger.

January-February-March 2013 (1st quarter) compared with previous 1st quarters.

Quaterly progression from 1st quarter 2012 to 1st quarter 2013

FS9 sceneries are keep slowing down. FSX new sceneries are rather sharp.
17 new FSX titles have been released during the 1st quarter 2013, (30 % are from Orbx)..

* * * * *

As usual, this short update checks new sceneries / airports launched from Simmarket, FSdreamteam and Orbx. It is only about payware (value > 15 Euros). Updates, boxes, bundles and meshs are not taken into account.

Great post. I love it when ADX analyzes the FS marketplace as a whole. You guys should do more opinion pieces.

Excellent analysis! Finally, development is heading where it is supposed to be

To be honest, thanks for your analysis, but:
1) it is wrong due to the fact that you only take in account sceneries >15€. Why this? Don't you think that the just released Aerosoft Airfields aren't good enough or? Orbx has more or less the same airport size but is way higher priced than those 3 airfields. For sure we can now say "yes quality makes the difference!" but seriously, do you see that big difference with a price tag 20€ higher? I do not really love Aerosoft (due to Mega Airport EDDF, DEX,...) but they have a really fair price for those lawn mowers fields and those three airfields are really well done.
2) What is the sense/meesage of your analysis? I mean yes we all know that FS9 will more or less come to its end regarding scenery releases and most developer are switching over to FSX, but honestly that is a thing people also knows without looking at this "market analyze".

And your point is?... lol i see u constantly trolling this blog making these senseless statements. Ur amusing tbh..

Oh come on. Calling someone for simply being a critique and labeling him a troll is very shallow. Allow readers to critique blogs and analysis like they see fit. 1. It helps to understand what readers/simmers feel about blog posts and their value; and 2. Criticisms like this help Mason and other editors improve their analytical skills. Don't come here and throw your weight around without due consideration of the above 2 points. Get a life!

Oh come on. You should get a life too when you are telling another person to get a life. I took the time and liberty to analyze Markus' post. As someone who has been reading this blog for almost a year now, I constantly find his critique to be in the style as if he was saying what the authors are posting are completely inappropriet.

I choose 15 euros in order to get some stable datas during time. 15 euros (and more), that's what simmers usually want, in term of quality.
German airfields have been included as a package.

Hey whoever you are, I do not want to offend you nor to say you should get a life, but when reading this "market analyze" I am really asking me what is the point? If I see market zooms of my company this is always around 200 pages full of informations. First of all the data, from where it comes (sometimes each data is also named to verify what's in that analyze), then there are the diagrams showing whatever it is, sometimes compared to the last quarter/year/... and sometimes to other companies (those analyzes are strictly confidential and will not be shared outside!). And then after all that there comes the real analyze: Showing what is, what could and what possible future arrangements can be taken in order for example to lower the costs, to enhance the PR or simply to show where we (as company for sure) should work on. All this elements cannot be found in this "market analyze" since it all depends from the author's point of view (c.f.: for example he says in the analyze: "Updates, boxes, bundles and meshs are not taken into account" and the next comment below he says: "German airfields have been included as a package.", so to be honest this market analyze is totally wrong. In addition what is the point of this? What does he want to show us? What does he want to conclude? You cannot say now that for example FS9 is dying, since this has really nothing to do with the releases of sceneries (c.f.: look at the big russian/C.I.S. community which are still releasing a lot of thing which are in most cases better than some FSX sceneries >15€) To that is added that his conclusion is wrong: "FS9 sceneries are keep slowing down. FSX new sceneries are rather sharp." Consider all those freeware sceneries released for FS9 the last quarter and I am sure FSX could be beaten (I do not mean now a simple AFCAD change or RWY12 additions, no really developments in a 3d-application).
Also you - the anonymous person - said: "And your point is?... lol i see u constantly trolling this blog making these senseless statements."
and then afterwards: " I took the time and liberty to analyze Markus' post." I need to say here now in all respect: sorry but take the time and spend it for something else. If you would have read it and "analyzed" my post you should clearly see two numbers. They are the enumeration of what my ideas to this "market analyze" is. I just take the liberty and reformulate them in order you get the point:
1) the balance between the two simulators is not given due to the fact that some are taken in account as package, others as one(!) airport but that they are in reality of the same size.
2) What is the conclusion of that "market analyze"? What do I get when seeing those diagrams?
I think now the coin should be dropped no? Anyway, if not simply re-read it with a clear mind :)
And last point, maybe this is not really clear here: I do not say what the authors are doing here is totally bad. I have respect for what they do. They earn a bit of money from it (due to the advertisement no?) and it is always nice to see something which goes further than only posting news, however in all decent respect: Do not waste your time guys doing things which are useless/unfinished/bad. This "market analyze" is a good idea and I like the idea behind but the message you are sending with this is in my opinion totally wrong and also the "market analyze" itself.

Tell that to the developers of Aerosoft Rome Fiumicino, that released the scenery only for FS9 and who knows when the FSX version will come out...

Cheers for the stats guys... It is an interesting barometer of the current trend, the payware market is slowly but surely turning away from FS2004 and concentrating on FSX (and perhaps P3D as potential successor?)
Of course, if you were to include the freeware releases, it would weigh out a little more evenly, but that just reflects a trend as well: that freeware developers are attempting to fill the gaps left as payware developers shift their focus.
Any statistical analysis is going to have its issues, but this is by far better than none!

Cheers for making these data available. Most FS developers do market research, Aerosoft for one tells us regualrly that they do it, but no one ever publishes their findings... Not that I am surprised they don't I might add...
