AeroFly into the big leagues!

AFS. Thanks to my friend Jerome for pointing out this one. We are all aware of AeroFly FS. At least most of us are. Something that started as a simple simulator for remote controlled aircraft spawned into a breathtaking full fledged flight simulator with amazing graphics rivaling FSX and far better than X-Plane. The downside was, very limited aircraft, and you were also limited to regions in Switzerland. Well, take a look at the direction the development team is going in now for their next platform. Could this be the next big platform to save us from FSX?? At the very least least, they had our interest. But now, they have our attention!
Re-post!

Dear aerofly FS Users,

we know, lots of you out there are eager to know what our roadmap for a successor to aerofly FS is and if we continue to develop a new version at all.

Well, the short answer is yes, we are working on the next big version of aerofly FS. But to take aerofly FS to the next level we have to work on quite a few things and we also have to redesign some core elements. But this all takes quite some time.
This post is intended to give a rough overview on whats planned for the next version and what we are currently working on. We might periodically update this post with an updated status or new screenshots, however this information is by no means complete and we reserve the right to remove or add some features.

And please don't ask us for any further details. We would like to put our focus on the development. We will release the next version when we decide, that its worth it. We think too much software these days is released way too early just to hold a planned release date. Our intention is to develop a great flight simulator and this is more important to us than providing updates on a regular basis! We also would like to keep our high quality level, e.g. fast loading times, finely detailed aircraft and easy of use even for the novice user.
So here are the features we put our main focus on right now:

New aircraft with more cockpit functionality
Support for navigation features like ILS, VOR, ...
Support for larger areas, e.g. we will switch to a new coordinate system
Support for dynamic time of day changes
Multiplayer support
Open aerofly FS for developers so they can add their own content

Needless to say, the team is taking a step in the right direction. Developing a simulator can be very time consuming and super expensive. They obviously have a very long way to go but these guys are starting off small and expanding. There is a great deal of promise here and I personally feel that even if they don't become our next top simulator replacement, they are without a doubt providing us with something more and more FS9 and FSX fans will desire to have on their hard drives. And the fact that they are opening up development to 3rd parties, I wouldn't be surprised if you start see the likes of Carenado, MilViz, Orbx, and even Aerosoft take a shot it... These default models look very good, so imagine the high end stuff in there!

In my opinion, the 3rd party FS9/FSX developers should get in touch with AeroFly. Perhaps Aerofly would be interested to hear from experienced developers. We all thought Microsoft had that intention when NDA's went out to all the major teams, but in the end, they were just bullshitting.

I think the new AFS has the clear potential to be the "peoples" simulator. But only time will tell. I am extremely impressed with what I am seeing so far during these early stages of development.

AirDailyX is officially following and covering this company and platform for our readers. As more information comes, we will be sure to get it out to you.

We are all very excited.

I thought Aerosoft was going to do a Flight Simulator or did that get scratched years ago?

To compete with FSX it has to be worldwide, period! FSX is very detailed worldwide when it comes to airports...even small very local grass strips are present in FSX. If they can match this it would be fantastic:)

I would like to think that would be a long term goal for them...

I certainly hope someone emerges at some point, hopefully soon, to fulfill the huge gap left from MS Flight Simulator's departure.

Robert Randazzo of PMDG, during a webcast indicated that there is some sort of platform being developed that he feels very optimistic about. Even saying that Microsoft departure from Flight Simulation may be one of the best things happening to our community.

Really what we need are for some of the finer developers like PMDG, OrbX, FlyTampa, etc. all working closely to integrate their products seamlessly into a new platform.

Perhaps Aerofly FS is the platform of the future. I don't believe X-Plane is the platform of the future, at least I hope not.

I hate FSX. Its that slow 15 year old MS engine. It was always shit even in 2002.

Can't wait for something new.

Well it's either Prepar 3D V2 or AeroFly FS. :D Or both...

AeroFly is awesome! Graphics are amazing.

And how expensive would that simulator be? Probably the same as PMDG has listed their T7 as..

Oh man, that Airbus cockpit is amazing!

The best attitude to take with respect to unreleased software is that it is all lies and propaganda. Once it is released and in my greasy little hands, I will believe it.

One of the things that is so daunting about world coverage is simply making and placing the ground objects. There simply are not very many good 3d models of many of the world's buildings.

Ultimately, Microsoft may decide to sell its rights to Flight Simulator. While many aspects of FSX are out of date, there still is much usable material. The longer Microsoft holds onto this program, however, the less it will be worth.

Microsoft has already sold it - to Lockeed Martin.

Yes, I listened to Robert Randazzo saying that too. Maybe this is what he was talking about?

I was just going to say that :)

This is great news!! I'm all for whoever makes a new flight simulator :)

...and if PMDG were involved, we MIGHT see it in our lifetime. but i wouldn't mind orbx making a sim as long as they consulted other dev's for coding and certain systems/features. we've seen their ability to develop excellent quality landclass/textures and now even global textures, but still, it would be difficult to keep it within many's budget.

I've seen these dev shots almost a year ago.
What totally differs Aerofly from FSX/XP, is the fact you install it, run it and it works flawlessly @ 60 fps on the same rig you will run fsx @ 30 fps locked. The sad truth. I believe that they shouldn't focus much on scenery as that can come off as add-ons, whether freeware or payware. One thing to be said, the detail of scenery they achieved in swiss is simply amazing.

I think he was taken about a civilian version of DCS, he is a big fan of the idea.

Nothing to see here said...

It's going to take many years for this to match X-plane or FSX. For example here's no weather in Aerofly FS.

adi518 said...

yes, but they don't even look at the consumer market..

I tell you a big hint guys... only what i say: like google earth -in ca. 3 years we get a nice sim...

adi518 said...

Besides clouded skies. Tbh, this is a relatively easy feature to implement... not a big worry really.

Wow double post, why did that happen. Anyway, it's a nice idea but not likely

AeroFly should talk to other FSX developers and ask them to help them to make a Flight simulator that is easier to program so maybe we could see faster development speed. I also hope they will make a complete world like FSX not like MS Flight was.

And please have the simulator 64-bit.

Microsoft did not sell it to LM. LM purchased MS ESP which they redeveloped into Prepar3d. LM has nothing to do with FSX.
