MAIN PICTURE SLIDER

Majestic's been quiet lately. Here's whats up...

FSX/P3D. At the moment, a lot of effort is being put into the 2D panel operation of the Majestic Q-400. A lot of simmers are moving away from 2D panels in favor of 3D virtual cockpits. Lately, we have seen many developers move away from the 2D's. However, there are many that still prefer the panels and these folks have made their voices heard. So what's the deal on the panel development? Could it be that this part of the development process is prolonging release?

Note from Majestic:

"Gentlemen,

EFIS re-writing is advancing nicely. Much work has to be done, but we realize it's necessary since the displays graphics, made in the beginning of the project, is no longer up to the standards of the rest.

First, we made new fonts (seven!) that match closely the real ones - on the displays, but also on FMS and ARCDU - they are all different.

Second, every EFIS element was re-designed, every inscription - adjusted and placed on a correct place. This work is still in progress, about half of the way.

An extra difficulty came from 2D pop-ups. Bombardier made the EFIS fonts quite thin and small. Making the exact replique of these fonts results in unreadible displays in VC. So, we had to make VC fonts bolder. But with bolder fonts, 2D pop-ups are no longer looking real. So, we had to make another font - a thinner one - and use it on pop-ups.

Please check here two pictures comparing real world photographs with our displays. Colors are a bit off both on photos and on VC screenshot.

One thing is for sure, the team is spending a great deal of time and effort to make sure it is done correctly. Can't be mad about that.

"and these folks have made their voices heard"

obviously not enough!

But AVSIM has never been a place to discuss 2D/VC wisely. In every poll i noticed in the last years 2D users were still around 40%. And most of the simmers didn't get the point that they hadn't to decide between the options.

Having the choice without force has never been a disadvantage for any customer.

A very poor step of backstabbing and missing solidarism in what's called community.

If there were more empathy, we would have a T7 and a 744v2 with 2D AND VC, regardless of anyones preference with the consequence of no unhappy simmers.

This should have never been a question of realism, as zoomable 2D popups to make VC legible aren't.

"divede et impera" (easy job for RSR to trick the masses and kick familiar standards)

I wouldn't say RSR is tricking anyone. It's a fact the world is moving forward, the sim included. 2D panel was standard in 1998, the VC just a luxury. Now the quality of the high end addon's VC is unprecedented. Also there are available software to preset view points, where you can move quickly around the VC to the exact points of interest (OPUS, Ezdoc, etc). Having popups is more than enough by today standard. Unless you are running the same PC that ran FS98. But that's different issue.

And who is the plausible authority to decide this finally? It seems, the trick is still working fine.

From a clinical point, one can monitor more empathy to a company than the likes of you (simmers, customers). That's unusual!

No human gets satisfied, if you tell him to move on against his confirmed habit.

And that's exactly whats happening in AVSIM forums all the time. One doesn't use 2D so everyone have to agree (or literally die). That's insane!

There is no standard shape of customer (in fs business).

Individual customer powers are limited. As there is no alternative to a quality T7 with both (2D and VC) you can't go to developer B and buy a comparable T7.

With that strategy you will get a third of your customers unsatisfied in clear markets. And that'd be easily avoidable.

As there is no disadvantage in having 2D Cockpit for any customer, redlining strategies and statements like yours do more harm than good.

A moving forward world doesn't mean you have to give up your identity, even some guys want to force you for their benefit reasons, not yours (that's the trick)!

Having the choice what kind of cockpit you use in each stage of flight, is still an advantage, even you don't use it anymore.

That's the gone "standard" not the 2D panel itself. Maybe next time, a feature you still prefer will be dropped? Who knows!

I was gonna reply but eventually ended up donating few bucks to Wikipedia. Which is a positive thing...
