Now that's what i call a Phat Fokker!

FSX/P3D. McPhat is on a roll this year! Interestingly enough, there was quite a bit of hype over the Fokker-50 just released by VirtualCol. Now even though that is a reasonably priced low end product, it will surely do well to hold you over until this baby comes out. At a whopping 500 px/m texture, this Fokker is a looker! I am adding it to my list behind the Q-400! As I stated before, 2013 is our year for FS addons. With us barely in the middle of February, we have already announced several incredible and unbelievable addons due this year. Need I say, mind your credit cards this year folks. Many of us can get into trouble very quickly with the pending releases!

OOM anybody?

Saw it coming a mile off. That sort of resolution is just not necessary.

OMG this is incredible so fokker good looking! I fokker love it:)

Well I'm sure Mcphat knows what they are doing with this. They are proven developers, and plus, I think the detail looks excellent, no longer do I have to look at blurry markings.

Yeah, like the DC-9 they had a hand in that performs like trash...utmost confidence.

You cannot have that sort of resolution without drastically increasing the number of draw calls (<--bigger peformance killer than polys). I think it's going to be performance nightmare.

And I have to ask, when does one ever get that close to the wheels to need to see them at that kind of resolution and wasted map space? It is unnecessary, and if they where smart and actually did know what they were doing, they'd place decals for those marking you refer to on the plane that yield zero performance impact vs this memory-hog method of over-the-top resolution.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for HD, but there's a point where it becomes completely unnecessary and ridiculous, the McPhat F50 has achieved that mark. It's a waste of computer resources, especially in FSX where certain scenery/aircraft combos cause OOMs, this WILL be one of those aircraft.

So when it's released and everyone starts complaining about performance and OOMs, I will back here to tell you that I told you so.

Some will never learn. Such texturing may look good but is going to cause ooms at anything but the simplest of airports. It is highly unlikely that we will be using this in OrbX territory with halfway decent weather depiction. When will people realise that more than 1024 textures is a resource black hole.
I will most certainly sit back and read the reviews before even contemplating spending even a cent on this...

It's not even that you need to keep all textures at 1024, it's that a lot of devs keep all textures at 2048 or 4096 and save them as 32-bit, and often have more maps than needed. In the case of this project, in order to achieve this resolution, there are going to be ALOT of 4096 maps, most of which are unnecessary.
