Mega airport Helsinki....

FSX/P3D. We just bought our own copy of Mega Helsinki. First tests on FSX. On the ultra light airplane and then on the PMDG NGX. Too soon to tell ? We already have Out of Memory messages (OOM) with this boring sound alert. The scenery itself is amazing. But from Aerosoft support forum, and testimonies, an update is obviously needed.

First of all, a great video from Jerdoo. Just to give you a good idea of the size and quality.

Now, fromWindows task manager, performance folder, there are obviously some peaks...

My configuration is I5 3,4 Ghz, 4 MB, ATI 6570 and i just installed REX old version.
And... i set off the cars animations.

My flight was great on the light aircraft. Then i changed for the NGX. After a few zooms on the buildings, i got a CTD. I have restarted a flight with the NGX but after 3 minutes flying over the airport, the OOM started. etc.

And back to report very soon... if a patch is released.

Its a defenitly a amazing scenery, but I also have memory issues (spikes at the scenery and than a OOM) I don't had this problems since a bought FSDT JFK when a had a Q6600. Now I have a I7 at 4,5 and NVIDIA 460. It sure needs a patch.

I found that resized textures help... there are around 180 2048*2048 higher resolution texture sheets for all the buildings. There are a few textures which are season-related but you are looking at maybe 120 or so 5.33Mb textures... resizing to 1024*1024 reduces the payload to 1.33Mb per file... you're looking at around 500Mb less to load...
Made a difference on my machine with the NGX...

And a patch has been released. Purchasers can pick it up directly where they downloaded the purchase in the Aerosoft shop...

A-Flight: kudos to you guys for your response. Helsinki does not look any worse in my eyes for the textures at 1024*1024 :)

Sorry to say this but your system is pretty low end with an 3,4Ghz i5 and only 4gb of ram.
It runs fine on a high end system (IB or SB i5/i7 overclocked, GTX660 Ti or above, 8GB ram).
There is no patch needed, you just need the right tweaks (those kind of tweaks every FSX user should have). The scenery is groundbreaking and you should keep in mind that it is heavy to run. Just like Mathijs says, its all about available memory for the scenery. Using a sophisticated aircraft with this scenery and the wrong settings is just too much for the sim. Keep in mind that it is 6x Maastricht, 3x Munich and it comes close to Amsterdam and Budapest.

I think you guys need to switch to P3D, it is more stable and geared towards the future.
Just my thoughts, looking forward to the whole review.

yeah, she's a hard hitter...haven't downloaded the update yet , but I made it into the airport creeping aboard the airbusx (setting are high but I refuse to minimize the experience.) I'll go for the update so that I don't suffer the same fate as those before me. Still excellent scenery though...I got some great screenshots

Dom you could easily overclock that i5 to 4.5 or higher and throw in a few Gb of Ram for next to nothing. Hope youre running Win7 64? that saved me a whole heap of trouble 18months ago.

I have done three flights to and from Helsinki, without problems. The first using Just Flight's Airbus 321 from Helsinki to Oulu and the second using the same Airbus (Finnair) from Paris CDG to Helsinki. Currently I am in the middle of an American Airlines flight from Helsinki to Chicago using the Just Flight/CLS 767. No memory problems with any of these.

Keep in mind since Fligh Simulator is a 32 bit application, the maximum memory it can address, even if it is Large Address Aware, is 4gb -- probably closer to 3.2 gb. This is a hard limit.

If you are having memory problems, you certainly should not be running any other programs. That being said, I have been running Internet Explorer, which is something of a memory hog. But I have a somewhat more powerful system.

But I really have not pushed things to the limit.
