Considering that FlyTamps Athens costs EUR 22 excl. VAT, Aerosoft Anchorage X EUR 21 excl. VAT and most ORBX airports cost around EUR 25 excl. VAT, this airport is way overpriced at almost EUR 31, especially if they are not selling through a publisher, but their own website.

Aerosoft even sell the Flightbeam SFO for under EUR 22, maybe they should rename themselves to Flightbean Studios :P

Even FSDreamteam KLAX is under EUR 28, so why the incredibly high price I ask?

Yet another stunning release from FlightBeam, looks great!

Yeah I agree, EUR 31 and they can't even get the textures on the bridges to match the adjacent roadways, that's just way overpriced. I won't be buying this until they drop the price to something more reasonable. If I can get Fairbanks X for under EUR 20, why should I agree to pay more than EUR 30 for this?

I agree, stunning, but way too expensive!

The price is pretty high, BUT the quality is absolutely outstanding. Especially the night textures are really impressive. Even better than FSDT KLAX.

An interesting debate.

I'd say that, first, Flightbeam tries to make a living of this job. So its legitimate to set the price he wants and he has work more than a year on this one (official release March 1st 2011 for KSFO).

Second, i know that i will use KPHX for hundreds of flights, While i will probably make dozens with Anchorage.

FSDT prices are less expensive but it' a team of 3/4 developers.

We need more of these mozarts !

There is a very large choice of scenery and some excellent developers out there, be they a team or just an individual.

So the point is with all the choice of scenery, I will not support a developer that sells their scenery at an unreasonably high price. Simmarket current bestseller LATINVFR - BERMUDA TXKF is priced under EUR 20, DRZEWIECKI DESIGN - POLISH AIRPORTS VOL3 at EUR 21, and HERAKLION X under EUR 17. There can be no excuse for KPHX being over EUR 30!

And I don't care how good the night textures are, the bridges textures aren't finished and the price is unreasonably high!

Hi Folks,

Yes, the price may seem a bit high. The reality is PHX has been in development for over a year. The amount of development done for this airport easily doubles or triples the amount of work for any airport I've seen listed above. The area of coverage is enormous, and even with that, we've managed to deliver with 2048x2048 terminal textures and many other features while keeping the framerate consistent. In addition we're providing free use of GSX at KPHX with no purchase required.

Additionally, no airport listed above gives you a free trial. No one is forcing you to purchase this airport, I'm giving all users to try out KPHX without the need to purchase, to see if it suits their needs. If it doesn't, no problem. :)

In the end, these products pay the bills, and barely at that. It clearly doesn't help either with rampant piracy especially with KSFO, these radically reduce my income and force higher prices.

If we were to create our next airport with a manageable size and development time, you would see the costs being lowered.

Thanks for reading

PS: Love the screenshots AirDailyX!

Hmmm, from the above list FSDreamteam do also offer a free trial and they are under EUR 30.

I'm sure there are many like me, who will not buy your airport because you have outpriced yourself.

You do the math, 5000 people buying your airport at EUR 25 or 4000 at EUR 30. At EUR 25 you have a slightly higher profit, not much I know, but you have attracted 1000 more customers and potential buyers for your next airport!

Think long-term...not short-term!

Well if some people eventually regret their purchase, the question of the price will be totally valid !

Je ne comprends pas ca, I dont understand, what are you trying to say Dom?

Anonymous said...

No way to regret, if you get the demo you will see if its worth it. To be honest though, no surroundings (no photos scenery, no other builds) for a scenery this expensive will not make the cut for me.

Mason Dominique said...

Lol. I am shure you get it. If some buyers are disappointed about KPHX quality, they will shurely testify about it.
The only weak point about the airport is AES. We need to see is AES will be covered (Jetways are automated).
But after all these interesting discussions, i'll say "what"s really relevant and important here ?"
Supporting a promising developer or.. or.. whatever i don't know. But i understand that 31 euros is expensive. Actually it's 36 euros because foreigners have to ad the VAT...

I can't believe all the negative comments I am reading here. Are these comments from people who actually bought the scenery? or just judging from screenshots? To me it looks like it's the most detailed airport this side of the pond... But I to am judging from screenshots... The bridge issue just doesn't seem to be that big of a deal to me...

Great but I think you shouldn't diminish the other's people work by saying that your product area of coverage is enormous. Polish airports coverage is huge, Heraklion area of coverage is also big it goes as far as to the city, and Bermuda covers the entire island of Bermuda, the same as fairbanks, and others. Your scenery is superb and awesome but why can't you charge the standard amount, why should you stand out being better than FSDT and FT, Orbx and others by placing an exorbitant price?

If you put a price because of piracy, just must be careful because piracy may be worse than KSFO since this is pretty much more expensive than KSFO.

Anyways nothing personal, just think you should re-think your pricing for a moment.

And hey, Mir is a new dad, so maybe the price supports baby Mir too? I have no problem with that :)

I bought the airport right away and believe me it is a masterpiece.

There are some downright rude comments on here.

I think enough has been said. No one is forcing money out of your wallet. No one is forcing you to purchase. An airport this size and with a lot of work put into HD textures is comparable in size with FSDT KLAX which is priced at $38.00, even more expensive than KPHX. But I find that price justified. Many of you do not know the amount of work it takes to raise an airport up from the ground from scratch.

And then there are comments literally describing how many units I should be selling. I can't even begin describing how inaccurate that statement is. But the cake goes to this comment:

"I think you shouldn't diminish the other's people work by saying that your product area of coverage is enormous. "

In no way I diminished other people's work. I simply stated that the area of coverage / density is far greater than a lot of those airports. I'm talking about the actual airports in real life, not our sceneries.

This results in more production time, more production time = more money spent. KSFO for example never made enough money to make up for what I spent on production. I bet many think I'm relaxing on a jetski everyday.

Some people really kill the passion to create scenery especially after such long productions

regards,

Mir

Mir, that wasn't about how many units you should be selling, it was a mere example as to how units sold have a relationship with potential customers attracted for your future products.

You charge US$ 35 on your website, which is currently EUR 28. Why when we select Euro does it show almost EUR 31? It seems the currency conversion is messed up?

I'm sure that if you offered a correct Euro conversion of EUR 28 there would be less complaints :-)

DAndre Newman said...

I believe the Euro option includes VAT charge which is basically a TAX for Europeans. If you live in Europe, you have to pay that tax. This has nothing to do with the price of KPHX which in my opinion and the therefore the opinion of AirDailyX a very reasonable price for the size and quality you get. And as Mir said, it's less than FSDT KLAX and both airports are about the same in size.

We will officially stop the debate here. Normally it's me inflaming debates in the forums. It's weird now being on the other side of the fence.

It's a great product people, I am playing with it as we speak. The bottom line is, if something is worthwhile to you then you will buy it. I am truly sorry to hear KSFO sales did not meet expectations. It's a wonderful scenery. The best ever made and will ever be made. The same for KPHX. The only reason we allow so many comments is so everyone can express their opinions and so developers know some of the feelings out there about their products. But it's a mute point now. It's a great work and for those of you who do want it, enjoy it! Even I just might post some FSX shots... Something I have never done!
