Rio de Janeiro : our own screenshots

FSX (and FS9 to follow soon). That was a surprise. Tropical Sim has just released Rio Galeo this morning while we were still expecting more previews. Did Tropical Sim rush the thing ? While its still not reaching a top class designer skills, this is perhaps the best SBGL airport ever done for FSX...  Airdailyx will wait an update before making any hot test.

What did you think of Frames? This airport is a Killer Frames or not?

While miles ahead of many other sceneries, there are a lot of things that could have been done much better, especially when you compare this scenery to those done by FlyTampa, FSDT, and Flightbeam. Tropical Sim develops some very unique airports and it would be amazing if they brought their game up a couple of notches. That said, I do agree it's the best SBGL developed to date, and especially in Brasil which I feel is very overlooked by the FS community, it's a welcome addition and I would love to see some more scenery for this part of the world.

I don't believe it is right to compare the likes of Tropicalsim to FSDT, FlyTampa etc. The sceneries that are completed are done in less than a third the time of the "larger" developers. But they are far better than a third the quality, agreed? If they were to take as long as the larger companies, often in excess of 1 year to develop just one scenery with little to know interaction/updates/previews with the community, I am sure they could produce a similar quality scenery.

I am sure its the best SBGL, just I think that those static cars ruin everything and remind me of FS2000. I wish TS just re-do their library of cars, because they have been using the same for almost a decade it seems.

Why is Flightbeam such a great developer?, they have only released one scenery in just one year. If you spend one year doing something and just one thing of course is going to be great. But I can't think as for Flightbeam as a major developer if they only have done just ONE airport.

About the framerate, i have just got 23-28 FPS on the PMDG NGX at gate, and with REX.

I got 15-20 fps if i launch FSDT GSX too.

my config is a : I7 3.44GHZ with 6 MB and ATI HD 6570 (settings on mid/high quality).

About comparisons with top class teams, yes i agree ! Tropical Sim desserves this credit. They produce much sceneries than FSDT. And for an addicted guy like me, it's an important factor' :)

Of course its fair to compare. They don't deserve extra points because they rushed it & did a sloppy job. I can tell by these shots this scenery isn't good enough for my needs.

Its not bad, but its below average for 2012.

IMHO this scenery looks pretty good. And why does everyone keep hyping up and comparing to FSDT? While FSDT does have some good sceneries, some of their stuff contains cartoonish looking textures (like some of the buildings in KDFW) and you can tell they use hand drawn textures sometimes which don't have that photorealistic quality to them.

Too bad, the greatest thing of FS is that you get to travel anywhere in the world. It seems you prefer to stay in just one area, thus not experiencing the awesome thing of flying to exotic places like Brazil. Its true the quality is not Orbx or FSDT but I applaud these developers for tackling these complex and awesome places. I am sure they don't sell as well as the European or American airports but at LEAST they are not ignoring other parts of the world that merit attention. Its time some people think outside the box.

Agreed that they deserve huge amounts of credit for doing more exotic airports at a quality that is much higher than a lot of other developers. As I said in my original post, Rio, and Brasil in general for that matter, are largely overlooked in the community which is a shame, the community needs more scenery in places like Brasil.

Still, there is a lot that is lacking that a lot of the other 'smaller' developers are overcoming in their projects, ie LH Simulations, 29Palms, Taxi2Gate, Drzewiecki Design, etc. Their packages represent exotic, overlooked places as well, but are higher quality than Tropical Sim and it would be nice to see Tropical Sim raise the bar a bit.

It's OK not to settle with 'It's better than anything currently out there' because sometimes stopping there still means the package may be far below the quality it could be. Again, lots of praise to TS for developing airports that aren't mainstream, but they could be better and if they were, it would surely entice people to want to explore that airport and that part of the world more. Nothing wrong with being honest about it, that's how developers gauge their community and their customers for ideas of where/how to improve in future projects.
