Preview - LatinVFR Miami (KMIA) V1.2!

FS9/FSX/P3D. LatinVFR has posted some development shots from their upcoming Miami International Airport (KMIA) V1.2 upgrade. These initial shots look fantastic! This is a comprehensive upgrade to the original version covering all scenery elements and textures- many building are to be completely redone and past performance issues are being addressed. Keep in mind this will be a free upgrade for existing customers. Take a closer look inside.

I hope this isn't MIA because it looks nothing like it, I can't tell they are testing the roof but what is that, an asphalt taxiway texture, ON THE ROOF?? For LVFR: Please, take your time, stop rushing your projects, you don't need to put HD textures all over the place because in my opinion you overdue it and it looks atrocious. Please keep in mind that Miami is not that dirty, this isn't Cuba. Increase your alpha channel in Photoshop PLEASE. I know this is still in development but if you're willing to show "WIP" shots you can expect bad feedback for a potentially positive scenery. Consider this hard love because I am a Florida native and a potential buyer.

Its a wonderful upgrade, looks awesome already, can't see anything 'atrocious'. Keep it up LVFR!

Second-rate at best

Definitely not payware caliber.

I like the progress, thus far.
While I think that the "uneven"/"stained"/"Motled" (whatever you wish!) concrete color needs to me made more uniform to more closely approximate the real thing, not a "deal-breaker" by any means. Looking forward to eventual release

Visually speaking I can't really notice any difference. All I hope is a performance boost with the updated version.

Hi wideloadwhitford ,

Well, you are right, we developers shouldn't release any previews, because this is exactly the kind of situations that we are then exposed to, I was, believe me not too happy wanting to release previews but since many people are anxious about this I wanted to release something.

These sorts of postings remind me of the comments that people made about KMIA and KSAN before release in some forums and in sites such as these. But I thought that it was part of the business and soon the sales will represent the real feeling in the community. Anyways KMIA became an unprecedented success for us and KSAN even much more. So despite the negative comments, to me it seems that more popular the products become, the more people will say negative things (seen it here with others developers too). So I need not worry now. :-)

In any case, thanks for the feedback and I certainly will seriously look and revise the things mentioned, about the roof that wideloadwhitford was talking about, perhaps he can see this picture, from the same source he got the shot he posted:

That's concourse G and F of Miami not Cuba, and the satellite imagery often is brighter than normal. For satellite E we used more or less the same textures for G & F which for satellite concourse E was built in the 1960's ( I lived also in Miami, I know about airport a bit) around the same time more or less G and F were made (G goes back to the 1950's) in any case point taken and we should revise the roof to make it more 'cleaner'. Just thought that perhaps we wanted to make it notable that the building is more than 50 years old!

Thanks and next preview will be on release!

regards,
Ricardo

Increase the alpha channel...hmmmm.

I feel that LVFR needs to start using photoreal textures for their terminals and apron. Sometimes I think the fabricated textures they use often appear repetitive and cartoonish.

Amazing work thus far!

It doesnt look as good as it promised to be and as other people say, you guys should take your time with the textures and not just copying/pasting. However, can't wait to see what you guys come up with in the end!

I agree, the scenery feels too much like a "cartoon." Maybe if Ricardo used photoreal ground and then overlayed it with his taxiway markings it would be better.

Thank you for the reply. Sounds good what you are doing thus far. The picture you sent does show a slightly dirty roof but would be nice for a neater texture. As for the photoreal ground on what others are saying... I agree, what I did with my sceneries is always have the Alpha channel slightly gray (not much, only about 25% black) so that way the ground will bleed through and will look great from the air and still have the detail while taxing on the ground.

I am thinking now at disabling the comment
functionality when a developer grant us some previews!

Good idea. Too many rude replies. Amazing how many jerks there are out there. If they dont like it at least dont leave such rude replies. We're lucky to even have developers making us scenery and planes for our hobby.

Devs show they preview also to get first opinions of their product. I am personally interested in such comments regarding my add-ons.

Anyway, I look very much forward to the update. I like latinvfr a lot but unfortunately they stopped working on latin airports which is the area I usually fly in. Not Gringostan.

What is the point of publishing a preview without allowing the chance to the viewer to express an opinion/feedback/view. Of course, some care should be taken to avoid 'stupid/bitter' comments. But if the developer is not delivering the quality in the preview, then don't blame the user.

wideloadwhitford said...

I'm shocked that you would say that Dom. There is a difference from being rude and being constructive with the feedback. The reason I have not bought any LVFR sceneries is because the texturing techniques they use and how they rush and deliver with nail biting performance. If he wants to show previews then expect feedback, which is what I expected with my scenery. I held off on showing any preview for an entire year because I wanted to make sure that I had all the basics done with textures and finish them so I wouldn't have to comment on them on how I'm in the process of fixing them.
Please we are not rude, the developer should understand, if he wants the money he will listen to us, besides I can tell that forum is LVFR biased, just let him hear the review before people gripe for get another update.

Hi,

In our forums you are also welcome to comment, a user has posted some observations on the screenshots also and we are responding to him accordingly

http://www.flycay.com/forums/showthread.php?5097-KMIA-V1.2-FSX-WIP-preview-1&goto=newpost

I also don't agree with removing the comments on previews, we developers have to deal with these sorts of situations, since we are in this business. However, if critique is constructive and not of the type we normally see in these sites, it can distract developers and have them be worried about what they publish.

Looks terrible. Sorry, if you grant previews expect to get a response, listen, and fix it if you want it to sell, don't if you don't want it to sell. Simple as that.

Work in progress, that is what it is. Thanks Latin VFR for the progress and Airdaily X for posting it.
Funny how a lot posters do NOT post their names, yet are not afraid to trash whatever they feel is not to their specifications, even a work in progress. Here is an important point, "If you have Nothing GOOD to say, keep it to yourself".

There might be a lot of useful information for a developer from this criticism. Nothing compared to what BMWs long term lead designer Christopher Bangle was chided for his 7series.

I thought the first one was disappointing. Visually, V2 looks bad too. Real shame.

The ground textures need to be a touch lighter since the real KMIA is has a little bit paler ground, but overall not bad looking.

I just hope it performs better than v1 as that was the main issue I had with it. I though the first version looked fine, but sub 20 FPS with no AI and scenery turned down was a bit of a turnoff when you compare it to similar sized airports from FSDT and FLightbeam where you can keep a lot of AI and maintain 25 FPS.
