AirDailyX First Look - Majestic Dash 8-Q400!

FSX/P3D. Here we are folks, our first look at the Majestic Software Dash 8-Q400...and it is good, really good, really really really good... My initial impression of this aircraft is probably the most positive that I have ever experienced. Now for the kicker, it performs well, no problems maintaining my normal 30FPS flying around FSDreamTeam LAX...this is unreal. Take a look inside for some initial observations and screen captures. I suspect my partners may also post their initial observations as well...

The first thing you will notice when loading up the aircraft is that the virtual cockpit looks fantastic, there is a feeling of actually being there! Cockpit textures a clear and crisp, and EFIS screens look great even up close.

Next, you will be forced to go through at least some basic checklists to get the Q400 up and running. This is no problem with the included pilots manual. You may also notice that FPS performance is incredible for an advanced aircraft such as this. As mentioned above, I had no problem maintaining 30FPS at FSDreamTeam LAX, this is a first for me with an advanced aircraft. I have left the FPS counter visible in several screenshots to reinforce this point.

The Q400 handles well, similar to what you'd expect from this genre of aircraft. The exterior model is very high quality. Even the animated pilots seems particularly busy and active. Everything is just well done and delivered in a complete package! In fact, this may be the aircraft that gets me back into commercial FSX flying...it's just that good.

This is of course the "Pilot" edition, two more advanced versions still to come. I won't comment on the systems as this was just a very quick look, but I am confident this aircraft will satisfy most advanced simmers, at least until the "Training" and "Pro" editions are released.

If I were to summarize my initial experience with this product...this may very well be the most impressive add-on aircraft in a very long time...

Now, some screen captures:

Very excited about it all, especially about the FPS you're getting. No use in having such an advanced aircraft with very low frames.

Really getting my money's worth here, This Q400 addon is near PMDG-level complex plus a working weather radar. with a 5GHz rig FPS is no issue here, even with Flytampa Montreal + Full AI traffic + Real world WX.

Beautiful shots.

can you share your PC specs with us, please ?

Beware the tutorial flight document is still not fixed, despite their most recent comments.

Solution: Since the FRANX6 arrival at Montreal no longer exists, you'll need to go REEDO and use the HABBS2 arrival, MIGLO transition. Chop off MIGLO and the STAR will start at REEDO. Start thinking of descending at REEDO as you'll need to be below at least 16000ft by HABBS for RWY 28/24L/R, or below 9000ft for RWY 10/06L/R.

Of course, check out the "ADX System Specs" section.

Just thought about it a bit more, this Q400 IMO actually exceeds the level of complexity in the PMDG Jetstream 41.

Are the panels in VC of this beauty detachable like the PMDG aircraft? Really thinking about buying it.

Sorry for multi post but I forgot to ask about the tutorial flight document. Is it so understandable like the PMDG NGX's one? I learned the basics from it, before I subscribed to AOA, but there isn't any tutorial videos for this one in the market.

Mark Hrycenko said...

Lol, yes, the top of the page says that but please scroll down, it is all there.

Mark Hrycenko said...

The EFIS displays and FMS can be displayed in separate pop up windows. Yes, the tutorial is very straightforward and easy to understand. Very worthwhile product!

Thanks Mark! The decision was made, I'll buy this baby on monday.

IMO The Majestic tutorial flight document is definitely not as well written as PMDG's work, and transitioning from a jet (or piston GA w/ CSU) to a turboprop is a real challenge in itself.

For example some of the switches' locations are not discussed and difficult to find manually (e.g. hydraulic switches) or operate. (e.g. transponder) Also the document describes a STAR which no longer exists in real life or the nav database, they said they would fix it but they didn't.

Hey Mark, i get the invalid response message, how can i fix this ?

Mark Hrycenko said...

From which, the installer?

Anonymous said...

Yep, im stuck on the authorization page....bought it from just flight

Anonymous said...

Now it says cannot connect to server

Mark Hrycenko said...

You just have to keep trying, I got several error messages as well until it finally went through. The activation servers are overloaded.

Roger that ! Ill keep you posted! Stby

Mark,

Thanks a lot man.
Can you please tell me what vcore you're running your CPU at ?
Also, would it be possible for you to share your fsx.cfg with me (or the vital settings, please )

please.

Thank you.

Which texture engine do you use to render the clouds ?

Anonymous said...

Still cant activate my product....and cant even access their website. Looks like their website is down.

Anonymous said...

Is there a possibility to install the product on a offline computer and activate it from another online computer? Like FSDT does it...

Thank you!

They even added music in this bird !
You can hear it while passengers are boarding.
Good thing to relax while programming your FMC.
Oh i love this aircraft !
Thanks Majestic.

For those that really don't have time for button pushing, would this be a waste of money? Can it be flown just using the Autopilot?

Anonymous said...

Guys, could you relay the pb of those of us who have activation issues at Just flight....many many many of us cant get it activated....Please Please

Chris said...

Well, this plane (as all turboprops)is not capable of doing an autoland - you will have to hand-fly the plane at some stages. Btw, i personally wouldn't pay that amount of money for such a (wonderful) complex aircraft if i only would fly via the autopilot.... Freeware and those "shiny" show-off addons should be more than enough if i dont care about realism and complextity.

Mark Hrycenko said...

Just the default FSX weather engine.

If you are encountering an activation issue, please contact us directly: orders@justflight.com

Unfortunately the Majestic Software activation software is struggling with the demand.

Thanks

My Vcore is 1.355 and that is holding 4.7Ghz very stable at reasonable temps. My only FSX.cfg tweaks are as follows:

[BUFFERPOOLS]
Poolsize=385000000

[MAIN]
DISABLEPRELOAD=1

[GRAPHICS]
HIGHMEMFIX=1

Primary scenery tab settings:

Scenery Complexity=Dense
Autogen Complexity=Very Dense
Water=Low 2x
Everything else max

I've flown real aircraft so landing isn't a problem. My question is simply can it be used without the FMC. But as you say, this would probably be a waste of money. Thanks for your kind response.

I'm in Love...no problem with download and install..

Anonymous said...

Thank you very much, sir !

I appreciate your help.

Anonymous said...

Yes, that's possible. You get asked during installation.

Anonymous said...

Holy shit! Awesome bird!!!

Anonymous said...

has any one tried porting this to p3d to see if it will/would work?

DAndre Newman said...

Yes I personally have it running in P3D. So far, no issues. Besides Bounce!!! Bounce!!!

Anonymous said...

Which is a good thing. Are you guys Millionaires now? lol

Anonymous said...

It's EZdoc. Turn off the DHM effects in the main panel.

DAndre Newman said...

FSDT KLAX

DAndre Newman said...

Okay thanks!

Mark Hrycenko said...

Yes, all shots were taken at or in the vicinity of FSDreamTeam LAX.

You can't compare the good 'ol J41 with the new and advanced Q400! Both are completely different aircraft.
