Level-D, Where are you?

FSX. We all know how awesome the Level-D 767 really was, and still is to this day! I have recently pulled her out of my hangar for the first time in over a year. (Do to the fact that I've been stuck in the NGX for so long).

The 767 is still one of my all time favorite aircraft for the Flight Sim platform. Taking her out for a short hop has really made me realize how advanced this aircraft simulation was for it's time! Combine that with the latest Mcphat Studios livery packs and you got yourself a wonderful looking and performing aircraft!

I'm sure we all know that Level-D has announced the 757 project back in 2006. It made me wonder what happened to that? It's been almost 7 years since that post (wow, time fly's!). So I wanted to take a look at what was going on over at the Level-D forums. This is what I found:

From DShutt himself, (Posted in Feb.2013)
Now there are a couple things that come out of this post. First thing being that they are obviously still working on the project. Second, I understand that working on such a complex add on in your spare time can be a tremendous amount of work. (Hence how long it's taking).

With that being said, I can understand where the developer is coming from. He makes a good point by saying "No one has paid anything for the 757". (Unlike other companies make you do for unfinished products). I give them lots of respect for sticking to their guns and it's true! Why should they have to keep posting updates? Is it really necessary?

I tend to believe that the guys over at Level-D are almost feeling obligated to have to show something to the public when they really don't have too. I think the community has got to a point were "previews" are expected and not considered a privilege. Level-D has my respect because they keep to their word. If there's something to show, they will show it. That's all.

So do I have an issue with no updates in years? well, to be honest. No, I don't. I know they are at it. DShutt has always been true to his word, The last aircraft was very successful and I have no doubt that the next one is well on its way!

What do you guys think about the current FS market? Are previews mandatory? Or should they be revealed when the time is right? I'd like to hear your thoughts.

As always,

Happy Flying!

Sometimes, add-ons developments take a loooong time...

They did not show anything so far, cause there is nothing to show probably. Level D 767 looks totally outdated when facing the actual standards in FS community... I assume they are no longer active.

I think QWsim should revisit the 757 once they finish the Dreamliner. I stopped caring about Level-D's 757 a very long time ago.

Mandatory is nothing since no money has been asked for or given.

However in my opinion it's a good marketing practice that also helps me decide how to allocate my FSX funds in a more efficient -for my tastes- way!

For example, if I know in advance that PMDG is developing a T7 I'll never get one from CS...

Level-D is overrated

If after 7 years (!!) of development there is still nothing to show or communicate, I don't believe they'll ever get it finished.
I have nothing but respect for LDS and their 76' is still going strong.
But I do fear their announcement alone of a 757 development was enough to witheld other developers from creating a high-end 757.
I hope QW will revisit their 757 to become a full blown 757 addon. Until that time... I'll wait..

Level-D is probably dead. I have CS 757 and QW 757 and love them both. In those 7 years, times have changed, customers wants previews to be sure the project is not dead and what they will expect. I have read topics about Level-D 757 and some people have lost their interest in this project. I have seen topics about PMDG making 757 but PMDG said they won't make 757 because of Level-D. I don't understand why PMDG can't make 757, there is no proof that Level-D is making 757 at all.
That is my opinion of this project.

LevelD maybe has outdated VC but systems and flight model are still great, much more advanced than QW, Wilco or CaptainSim

I agree with Franks point that the announcement alone has kept a quality 757 out of the communities' hands. I understand the part time thing completely and believe it will get finished some day. I just wish it was never announced in the first place as it hasn't done anyone any good in my opinion.

That is a great ppoint of view. I never thought of it that way before.

Cheers,

I think they are never going to finish it, and while that kinda makes me sad, I say it is time Darryl admitted that it is simply not possible to build such an addon at this rate.

If after 7 years you can't even produce a screenshot, I think it's courteous to PMDG and their fan base to finally say "go ahead, we don't know when we'll finish."

It's not Level-D's fault PMDG said they wouldn't make a 757 out of respect for Level-D, but since Level-D knows this it's ridiculous to make people wait for theirs for another 7+ years when they know PMDG can pump one out in 3 years at the most.

DShutt needs to swallow his pride over his one-hit-wonder and let someone else (namely PMDG) take up the 757 mantle since it's a widely requested aircraft, and I'm sorry to say but as good as the QW version is it's not as in depth as some want.

CS? Lol...

Absolutely agree. This was the only reason that stopped me repeating the mistake of putting money at CS shop.
