I would not call it wasted. It should always be remembered that freeware designers do this as a hobby, not as a job. So sometimes other activities get more priority and the freeware project is not finished.
In June 2016 there will be an update that YVR has gone into beta testing.In February 2019 the scenery will be ready for release. Great news! But. By then only 3 people will be using FS9...
