Tre Cime, beyond meshs

Real Earth X is known for his meshs of Hawaï and New Zealand. With Dolomiti X, the italian designer is now working on the Trentino South Tyrol ("Trentino-Alto Adie"). Tre Cime is the third scenery after Comelico and Alpago. But Tre Cime has something really special. Did you know that../..

**** That the three peaks themselves are designed as 3D-objects and not as commun meshs ? The montain formations are nothing else than 3D complex polygons models. You might say that this ruins the framerate. It's apparently the opposite ! And on 3D objects, designers have been able to apply far more realistic textures. I was wondering if they managed to deal with 3D object and mesh interconnection but this screen below shows a perfect match ;

Perfect junction between the mesh and the 3D models.

Now some scoops :
Real Earth X is working on a fourth Dolomiti X project ; Auronzo, in the north-east of Tre Cime. But the team, composed of Franck Dainese, Daniele Tona and Dario Bortot,  also want to design the italian-swiss famous peak Cervino (Matterhorn) that is in beta stage.
Cervino project. Probably designed from 3D models as well.

Another project is to work on two regional airports around these montains ; Belluno and Cortina d'Ampezzo. Let's hope that someday, Real EArth X has the sufficient know-how to build the thrilling Bolzano airport... Now that the SIRX 2009 project looks like a dead-end in FSX, these designers can grab a good portion of the cake ! I will just reproach one slight thing ; the coverage of sceneries is usually limited to 20 x 20 km (that's pretty small for a good vfr trip) but obviously, the price is fear ; around 11 € / 13 $. Tre Cime is published by FSAddon and Silver Cloud.
