France VFR interview part 2/2

credit Ouest France journal

Airdailyx : Laurent, can you tell us when you are still working on Bordeaux LFBD and Montpellier LFMT airports ? How come so few designers are able to develop airports in France ?

Laurent Dupouey : These two airports are still at work indeed, and yes very few people can design realistic platorms in our country. This is awkward but in France, the most advanced people in this area are freeware designers although they barely reach professionnal quality levels. First, it takes time to learn the most advanced tools of the market and secondly, enterprises are so taxed that their financial investments are easily jeopardized.

Airdailyx : Where and when did you start the France VFR adventure ?

L.D. : I started to learn scenerie designing in 2003, while i was developing client/server applications for a living since 10 years. This new hobby really came on quite naturelly as i was combining my programming skills and was really found of jets plastic models !

So we started this new designing project with two experimented colleagues and i finally founded my own Flight simulation development studio. I have always been amazed by photoreal imagery possibilities (this is our very core business in any of our scenes). Then, releases after releases, we managed to build an extensive and really successful range of products. Since then, i developed new concepts (FS Altitude for instance) and new companies (France Simulation and last month, Simulation data) with partners who already knew France VFR. Besides, from time to time, i work with aerospace industry on very specific sceneries applications but i rather like to remain silent on this.

Thanks Laurent from Airdailyx.
France VFR is the fourth designer interviewed, after Ariane Design, Blueprint Simulation and LIve in FSX.
The full interview will be available on "interviews" heading, right column.
France VFR is also publishing a newsletter and has a website http://www.francevfr.com/.
maybe in english too, someday.
