Santa Catalina Avalon airfield : our test

I was looking in vain for a canadian designer and here he is, OshkoshSim, ex MikeMax in Toronto, Ontario. I also applaude when a designer choose mid or small size airports like Appleton Outagamie (too expensive though) or, today, Santa Catalina Avalon. Updated / Three others airports have already been published for FS9 ; Salina Gunnison in Colorado and Homestead GA in Florida, Lock Haven Piper memorial in New York state, under the name of MikeMax.
Brief facts : Catalina Avalon is for FSX only and the file weights 225 mb. You will have to set it manually in the library. The groud photoreal resolution is not known but it is something like 1m/pixel that is very effective at 5000 feets.
Of course the runway is way too short for a liner (a regional and a learjet can make it) but it provides thrilling approaches and is fully equiped with VASI and all trademarks required for californian PPL students. There is also a "non-standard" runway edge lights for emergency landings. Normally, it requires a phone call to the airport but here, OshkoshSim lets you tune the ADF to light up the airfield. As usual the scne lacks of some animated objects. We would have loved boats at Two-Harbors and Alamo. Anyway Avalon X is a nice addition to California. Amazing flights can be planned towards Van Nuys, Long beach, Santa Monica etc.
Quality : 7,5/10   FPS : 9/10   Interest : 9/10  Package : 7,5/10 (quite expensive !)

Dangerous approach due to elevation and relief.

Non standard runway lights activated by tuning the ADF

Hight resolution textures on ground.

Landing at KAVX on Learjet ? Awful great feelings.

High definition runway textures (here showed on the worst ATI imagery quality settings
