PMDG Give Green Light For Prepar3D Support!

P3D/P3Dv2. WOW!!! This is the news very many of us have been waiting for, anxiously, feverishly, and now we have an official statement. PMDG are planning to release the following products for use with Prepar3D:

PMDG 747-400v2.0 for P3D
PMDG 777 Series for P3D
PMDG 737NGX Series for P3D

With Prepar3D v2 having just been released a short while ago, the news could not be better, and just in the nick of time.

Details of when exactly these releases will be are not precise at present, but Robert Randazzo, aka RSR, has confirmed:

We currently anticipate that the PMDG 777-200LR/F will be the first product released for use with P3D.

It's also unclear at present if existing 737 and 777 customers with a valid FSX license will qualify for some sort of Prepar3D discount. As always, we'll be posting updates on this as and when we get more information.

See the official statement by following the link below.

A pragmatic business decision.

Now if only fsrecorder could make their program compatible...then my move to P3D would be sealed!

WOO-HOO!!! Thank PMDG, thank Boeing, thank LM, and thank God. I see a lot of hope for the flight simming community's future.

DavidN said...

Initially it's good news until people that already bought versions for FSX find out what it will cost to use them on P3D. Are there any other developers that purposely disable P3D installation so they can sell a separate version for P3D? Have to hand it to RSR as a business man. People were saying he was going to miss an opportunity by not supporting P3D and now he's going to double whammy any PMDG FSX owner that wants to migrate to P3D and take their PMDG aircraft with them.

Karl said...

Am I reading this right? PMDG is planning to charge for their products to be used in P3D? Even though it was originally purchased for FSX.

This is plain and simple BS. Convenient how with the release of V2 PMDG has suddenly changed all their legal limitations. PMDG is out for nothing but more cash and is using P3d to leverage that.

Fair enough. There are always options.

MUHAHA -DONT THANK PMDG!!! Thank Boeing who is more on us then PMDG. Go on there FB Page and give a thank you....

Aren't you just the total pessimist. PMDG haven't announced anything about pricing and instead of enjoying the good news you have to bitch about it.

I guess some people are never happy.

Thanks ADX for this fantastic news!

I'm busy downloading v2 already, and getting great speeds.

Kristian Holzhausen said...

No, you need some reading glasses, PMDG have not announced any pricing.

And I'm quite positive that FSX customers will not have to pay twice. As an existing FSX customer I have no problem paying a small fee if it guarantees me full v2 compatibility and support.

It is not a money making scheme, it is their negations with Boeing going well. The problem was always that their licenses with Boeing did not allow for non entertainment use.

Golden Star said...

Thank. You. Very. Much. PMDG.

ZOMG! YESYESYESYESYESYESYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good news so far. I'll sit for a bit and see how the dust settles on this. I go forward with cautious optimism. If all goes well there will be a new 777 in my future and a new 747 to replace my older one.

DavidN said...

It's not pessimist, it's pragmatist. My intention is not to rain on anyone's parade. While everyone is celebrating the emperor's new clothes, I'm simply pointing out the emperor has has no clothes. RSR wouldn't have so clearly pointed that out in his statement the distinction between an "entertainment" title (FSX) and a training tool if he didn't intend FSX owners to pay twice. No one will know for sure until the pricing is announced, but the writing is on the wall, so to speak.

altstiff said...

And that *could* mean we may need to pay again for use in P3DV2 (a non entertainment use Lic). Going to wait and see how this plays out.

Rustam Alhas said...

Very true! Therefore, I don't like hypocrisy of managers who cackle before the egg's laid... :)

Andrew said...

They do not talk actual prices, but we will have to wait and see what the group thinks is reasonable for its multi-tier licensing on the non-entertainment platform that Prepar3D is. There is talk of a possible, though not binding, offer to those who have already purchwesed their FSX versions prior to the offer being made. The offer would be a price reduction of the licence to use on P3D. Let's face is, P3D is being seen as an enterprise platform, so if you want to use the NGX and so on on that platform, your licence is going to be more than on FSX...
Simple business. Where it is generally good news that PMDG have found a way to market their goods for the new kid on the block, I would wait and see how much exactly that privilege is going to cost the end user before getting all warm and fuzzy about it. They run a business... I get the impression that many seem to forget that small yet so important snippet of information.

Sean McFadden said...

Everyone that purchased the PMDG 777 within 48 hours of release back on 4 September should receive a no-cost P3D license for use alongside the existing FSX one.

Either that or offer them the ability to freely exchange their license from FSX only to P3D only.

Any other method would be seen as double-charging and would be unkind to early purchasers.

Unknown said...

And in that case... I will ask a refund for my 777, because of the bad support! But we will see! I hope the best and I am already happy that PMDG and Boeing gave a green light!

who are you ?

Thank you PMDG, you never let us down.

Hmmm, the customer pressure this last days are very heavy for PMDG. On this blog and on the PMDG forum ...
That's the good décission now. Finally PMDG follow the customers !
That's the good news of the day !

I don't know who to thank so to be sure I thank PMDG, I thank Boeing, I thank LM and I thank ADX for making my year with this news and thus firming my interest and future experience of FS. If I haven't covered you, I thank you too!

I had not yet purchased my PMDG 777 due to the uncertainty regarding this decision thus far. Once it has all been confirmed and all t's crossed and all i's dotted, I can proceed to purchase the 777 and a new 747 v2 will also most certainly be added to my simulator, along with anything else PMDG is likely to develop. I hold off for now, largely because I do not wish to pay twice for a 777 in each platform and because I look forward in anticipation of all agreements proceeding with certainty over the near future. But it feels great to feel so optimistic after so long that we may well be soon able to continue to support such a developer as PMDG alongside LM's P3D. I am sure a lot of people see Boeing, LM and PMDG in a very positive and admirable light today! So thank you to all involved for such great efforts for so many!

Kindest regards,
Sid

That would be the decent thing to do, anything else, particularly for the 777 would be seen as a money grab plain and simple. I find it extremely convenient that PMDG has suddenly changed their stance when it suddenly became evident that their revenue stream through FSX was going to suddenly dry up. Every other developer that allows their product for use in P3D gives the buyer the option to install into FSX, P3D, or both. PMDG had better do the same. However with the number of lemmings in this community they could do what they want and most would happily go along with it.
PMDG has progressively moved into my bad books as of late, with their affiliation with Avsim, their arrogant posts (there is an ADX incident that blew up remember), and now the hint that FSX purchasers may have to fork out more money.......

Is it just me or is this whole fightsim community/hobby getting more corrupt as the weeks go by?

Its no longer about contributing to the community but in making as much cash as possible from the community.

I'm a bit curious why does nobody blame LM because 2.0 isn't free for previous customers. It's the same like PMDG (if they don't bring their products free for FSX customers). It's a bit disgusting what people are doing with them. It's like PMDG is the evil of the developers. I'm really happy they made this move. I'll wait a couple of months with the platform change, until things are clearing up.

Can somebody confirm that the NGX still works in P3D V2.0?

CGaft said...

Now that's a game-changer! with PMDG on-board P3D is the new king in town, now if only F1 can follow....

CGaft said...

Reality is that cash is king in this world...& what happens when P3D V3, V4, V5 comes? another 60 bucks & new licenses for PMDG? ultimately I think the FS community will win...it's all about supply & demand.

JB said...

Keep in mind that if they make any modifications to take advantage of the latest additions to the P3D SDK you cant expect those mods for free. From what I have seen it would mean tearing up some of the code and redoing it. Not fair to expect it for free.

Karl said...

Here's where I'm coming from. I want to move to P3D V2. We are all looking for the holy grail of high frame rate, stutter free, flight simulation. It seems as if P3D V2 may have finally been able to give us that. Seeing as they have finally coded this antiquated simulation software to utilize the GPU and multiple CPU cores.
I just purchased the 777 for a hefty $90. I will refuse to purchase it again in order that I can use it in P3D. I see little reason to charge again for it, as a casual consumer, and the licensing excuse is pure BS in my opinion, there's no re-coding required here. Other developers offer interchangeable versions, Aerosoft, Majestic, etc. P3D V2 is backwards compatible, PMDG has deliberately handicapped the 777 to be used in P3D, oh but you can pay to un-handicap it.
....oh please. Perhaps we should read between the lines on this one.
I have no problem paying a relatively high sum of money $90, for a quality product, however I do have a problem in having to purchase it twice. Perhaps Microsoft, and every other software company should have us purchase all our software again when they release a new OS. That is what this is.

Andrew said...

Richárd Dobos... it's like this for almost every software, see games like FIFA and the likes that has a new version every year and no discount/free upgrade. It was the same with MS FS. Nobody got a discount when they upgraded from FS9 to FSX, this is no different.

Unknown said...

That's exactly what I was talking about. I wasn't blameing LM neither PMDG for charging (maybe) people for new software version. Maybe you misunderstood my thought because of my bad english, but that was the point of my writing.

Flyer said...

Well, they also have to pay their bills. And I bet it is much more cost intensive what PMDG does than a scenery developer has to invest to get out a decent scenery. They are not the Salvation Army. I do expect some interesting updates though to please the customers and seperate the products.

Dave said...

Apparently it does (with a little magic).

Regulate said...

That would be a violation, at least at this time, or your NGX license, would it not?

Dave said...

If I lived in the US maybe. Who really knows? But I don't and there has been no reverse engineering Mr "Regulate yourself"

I wont be happy to pay an additional fee to use PMDGs products on P3D but the fact is this: Who else but PMDG gives us models of the 737NGX and the 777 that are of the same quality? Other producers of add on aircraft often come close to PMDG but no one has yet attained that level of realism, especially for the afore mentioned models. So what are our options? Fly an a/c that's not quite as good as PMDGs offerings with the ability to operate cross platform or possibly pay PMDG for another license? Neither sound particularly grand.
