FSX. Well, it looks like the long awaited A_A Sceneries Bangkok (VTBS) is finally imminent! The developer states "ready to fly to Simmarket tonight". Obviously, should be available very soon... Check out a selection of project screenshots inside.

One thing that really stands out to me that is putting me on the fence is that the ground poly is quite low-res for current standards. Apart from that the detail and modeling look quite nice!
The scenery looks nice but all I wanna know is how it performs. I think i'll wait for an ADX review.
I'm impressed.
I expected better ground poly too! Not upto current standards. The modelling is ok but that's it. But overall, it doesn't look good enough on what I've seen so far. A real real pity as I've wanted a high quality version of this airport for a long time now.Don't get me wrong...I've got nothing against the developer and support all sorts of developers with my money, small and large, old and new. In fact I bought and have installed other AA sceneries, including Phuket and Samui but I was hoping on a marked improvement to current standards by now with this airport but this just won't do for me personally as Bangkok is a major hub scenery I'd like to use for my PMDG upcoming big birds. Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to hold off on this one. I'll wait and take a measured look at what the ADX reviews say but will keep hoping that a quality developer like Flightbeam, Fly Tampa, FSDT, even Aerosoft might develop it one day. Maybe they won't but one can still live in hope. If AA sceneries can get it to those standards with ground textures, quality and performance I would be willing to reconsider but I'm sure he won't even try so I'm going to have to hold off on this version too (just as I had to with ARMI project version) I'm afraid. Best of luck and wishes to them if they do though! Just my 2 cents... I hope others who like it will prove it with their wallets and buy it and perhaps showcase how good they think it is on you tube, like Todd whose just posted above that he's impressed. Impressed enough? We'll keep a look out on you tube and you never know, might even change my mind, if that happens and its really that impressive. Cheers!
P.S. Just to put my above post in perspective, I would say it was 75 - 80% there in terms of what I'd personally like to buy it and I do think the night shot is quite nice. So its certainly not all bad...Just not all bells and whistles that we're often used to these days. That's all. Thanks again ADX. Look forward to your review and opinion.
So your not very appreciative or fussy then Sid!
I can see why he didn't even bother replying to your nonsensical and childish comment...at least he put his name to his opinion, unlike you. His opinion sounds pretty clear to me. He is obviously appreciative as he says in his first post but he expects improvement with time and for major world airports. We all do. You obviously never owned the last version of Bangkok which I can confirm was a serious frame-rate hog. There's nothing unappreciative or fussy about him wishing a developer his best but wanting sceneries that are up to the benchmarks of 2013 standards. We all wish for that in any scenery we personally would really like, whether and whenever it happens. You're obviously either very young or not a native English speaker so I hope that simplifies it for you. Maybe you can find something constructive or at least worthy of contribution to say about VTBS rather than just insult legitimate posters without even having the guts to put your name to your insults. That just makes you look stupid and meaningless. You can't get lower than that. Back to Bangkok, I also get the impression of it not feeling totally finished but I think its mainly down to the ground textures having poor resolution. If not for that, the rest looks great, especially the tower, buildings and night lighting. Its mainly let down by the ground works, and as the first poster says, that puts me on the fence too.
Old wine in a new bottle..
True.
IMO, the screenshots don't do the scenery justice, just too low resolution.
I know for one that A_A Scenery makes good ground poly - just look at VTSP,VMMC etc (and note, ground poly is the taxiway, taxiway lines, runway, gate ground textures NOT Satellite Image).
A_A Scenery low price justifies the lower satellite resolution imagery he uses.
If price is the biggest factor in buying a scenery, then that's fine for you and those that feel that way and I can respect that but price isn't the biggest factor for a lot of us these days...the high quality and performance of the scenery is though. Especially when the price difference isn't going to be more than a tenner or so. I have VTSP and the ground imagery and, yes, poly, is better in that scenery, as it is in Ko Samui, by the same developer, but this is not even to that level, whatever you do to the screenshots. That's been so blatantly obvious throughout development of this scenery. Even if there's no better ground imagery available, as the developer suggested a while back, its still possible to improve its appearance with the newer high tech tricks employed by the high-end developers or ,at least, throw in some volumetric grass, etc. to help disguise the poor ground image quality...something. I'll wait for the ADX first look and YT vids but think I'd rather have a new wine in a new bottle when it comes to the much-desired VTBS. So, when's version 3 due?(maybe Flightbeam, Fly Tampa, FSDT, 29 palms or another high-end developer (new or established...even Thai creations, for instance) hopefully seriously considers a version for those of us in the market that'd rather pay more for a high-quality, high performance, high fidelity, magically-artistic airport (like those produced by the high-end developers such as those above, amongst others) than pay less for a justifiably lower-priced but unsatisfying low-mid-range quality airport such as this and others (even if its only the one pesky feature, e.g. poor ground imagery or poly or whatever else that stops it being in the higher-end bracket). Both markets exist these days and the balance of demand in each market is continuingly shifting but it is viable these days for a version for each market by different developers to be produced and they'll still both sell to their respective markets with possibly a small overlap. Its been done before and it'll be done again as the fs world gets more congested. That's a good thing long term as the customers for each type are different in what they will actually pay for. Most such markets exist in this way...its no different for flight sim consumers. I don't look at price or even worldwide location, for me to buy a Flightbeam or Fly Tampa masterpiece but just the same, a lower price (even much lower) doesn't convince me to actually buy a version of a desired airport that's not up to scratch by today's standards. It just has no sense or use for me to do that...and I only say this because I've seen its the same for a lot of others. Enough said...Lets see what else is coming out that looks promising. ADX, any news on release and your first look?
Go to any developer forum and you'll inevitably see a thread saying there should be a greater focus on Asian airports. And while I don't fly in that part of the world, I respect that request because yes, we in the US and Europe are blessed with a lot of add-ons. I get that. Yet, those same people, when they finally get an Asian airport, all I hear and read is "it's not good enough, it isn't up to FlightBeam or FSDT standards so I am not buying it, the ground polys suck, blah, blah, blah. Good grief, we are a community of complainers.
It's no wonder so many developers cancel or abandon projects. Look what they have to look forward to after working on a project for almost a year. Just keep complaining, and all you'll have left is professional developers like FlightBeam, FSDT, FlyTampa, and Aerosoft. Then you can pretty much forget having your airport of interest done, as these guys will focus on airports that will make money (sorry, guys, Bangkok just won't sell like LAX or Heathrow, and that's just a fact). The reality is most developers do this part time and they do it because they enjoy it. Very few developers in flightsim are professional 3D modelers from the gaming industry. Those that are work for the likes of FSDT, Aerosoft, and Orbx, to name a few, and simply have more talent, expertise, and MONEY to produce top of the line products. The rest are people like you and me who decided to give scenery design a try, have spent months to years learning how to use the necessary software and learn techniques, and are producing airports that the big guns won't touch. If you want a High Def, perfect Bankok, then you go pay $4000 for 3DS Max, $700 for Photoshop, maybe take some classes in 3D modeling if you can, and in your spare time (when you are not working, spending time with family, doing chores, paying bills, maybe doing some simming because that is why you do this in the first place), you spend the hours upon hours collecting the necessary data, and then go an make a better scenery. Oh, and don't forget the $100's to sometimes $1000's of dollars you may have to pay for commercial high resolution satellite imagery (if it's even available)for your photo-quality ground textures, because you can't use Google, Yahoo, or any other free source satellite data in payware scenery (except maybe USGS satellite data, which is for the United States). If you are not willing to undertake scenery design yourself and don't have a clue what it takes to even gather the data to make scenery, please stop complaining about those who have done it. Be thankful for those smaller part-time developers who are trying to meet the requests of the flightsim community, and whose livelihood is not dictated by how many sceneries they sell.
Todd Harrell
I don't understand why people keep saying old wine in a new bottle!
This scenery from what I know is built from scratch, nothing recycled according to what I know.
In regards to your comments about the high end range, A_A Scenery pushes out scenery faster than 29Palms or the likes of it.
While some would appreciate the higher quality, as an asian flyer, I would rather have quantity with average quality to cover the much empty asia.
Well done Todd.
Dave.
You guys obviously didn't get the point. Its just not the picture you paint Todd mate. When we see you actually produce a scientific study of the actual current market which is open to scrutiny and critical appraisal, regarding true supply, demand and sales these days we might consider what you paint to be facts as legitimate. You just wasted a whole load of time missing the point and arguing about something completely different, based on a number of false preconceptions in a lot of peoples minds, including yours that are still living in a market from a couple of years ago. Simply put, its not Fly Tampa, Flightbeam, Orbx, Aerosoft just for U.S and a few European airports and the newer or part-time developers for Asia and the rest of the world (as you obviously believe in your delusions). Just a handful of examples to help you with your delusions in painting this picture and presumption. If reality was as you and the "high-end developers for US airports only" pompous crowd imagine and constantly preach it to the small fraction of simmers that even visit forums and blogs, Fly Tampa wouldn't have made Dubai, Hong Kong, St. Maarten, the upcoming YSSY, Vienna. FSDT wouldn't have made Zurich. Aerosoft wouldn't be making Varanasi airport in India and talking about the desire to make other Asian airports, ORBX wouldn't be opening the world up with FTX Global etc. etc. And you suggest the sales aren't there... If the demand is there, as you say in your own comments, the sales are there. If people like Thai creations, Imaginesim, AA sceneries, Wing Creation, Pac Sim are continuing to make them, people are purchasing them. You don't need to know any more than that. Its really so simple buddy. You don't even need to be an economist to know that...You are obviously not one by the unbelievable number of assumptions you make. As much as you try and resist by trying to "hijack" the top developers and paint them as US only developers (its not difficult to see your personal agenda on any site for those of us with some intellect and open minds...it sticks out like a sore thumb), things are changing fast and flight sim (and all world markets in case you still hadn't noticed) is growing on a more global level with more and more Asian customers as well as us European customers and many north American customers who have open minds and don't see the world in an isolationist way like you obviously do. We'd love to make flights to and from decent quality airports (from all sorts of developers, new and established) all over the world and they'll be done eventually. You just can't respect not everyone in the market is the same as you. Voicing this is a rule of markets. Demand breeds supply. To be continued...
Continued... And just to expose another of your presumptions, we do buy these Asian, South American, Australian, Polynesian and European sceneries from the emerging and smaller part-time developers to support them and help them grow as well as the high-end sceneries. Do you? Obviously not, as you state you do not fly anywhere else. You're the one who doesn't support these smaller developers with your money...We do, big time. We only say what we'd like from the higher-end ones too and we support them too. You don't! So condescend yourself, not us. Don't make assumptions on us cos you're so off its laughable. You just quote the small developers in your not-so-hidden agenda isolationist comments. Its getting blatantly obvious in all your posts. There's no room in your sim-world (or should I say sim-US) for others voicing their idea of demand also. The world's too big and varied for you. Talk about going off on a tangent mate! So you know where you can stick your pompous superiority complex and preaching! I'm just glad there are plenty of Americans that don't think like you, even if there are the Daves of this world and others that are. In the end, markets are changing, they will steadily continue to do so, and many developers will pick up on that...though it will take time, fair enough. Your blah blah shouting like a baby and lecturing others when you yourself are the actual hypocrite (not actually on the side of these smaller developers whose scenery you don't buy. We are on their side as we buy them, we buy the high-end developers products too and we simply voice what we'd all like them all to do and that's to keep opening up the flight sim world and simply, not just the US. There's nothing wrong or isolationist or closed-minded or unsupportive of all the great developers about that) So thank you for your twaddle and please keep it up with the subliminal preaching that will only hasten the inevitable so enjoy yourself for now buddy! We can watch the next decade unfold together. The markets will speak for themselves and we will all voice our wishes in relation to demand, which actually helps the sellers. Just some of us will continue to do it directly and openly, unlike you who likes to preach to others based on delusions, isolationism, "hijacking" the high-end developers and painting false pictures about others. Thanks for allowing me this one time rant to the closed-minded selfish simmers out there airdailyX! Keep doing what your doing and we'll keep supporting you and ALL developers. Well some of us will. Todd won't. He'll just play the false hero. Or maybe one day in the next decade, he may open his mind to other views and wishes and simmers of all types. Amen!
And you're not a complainer??? You're even complaing about a scenery you care nothing for! If as you say, you don't fly here or aren't interested in Asian scenery, why are you even posting here? You're not interested in this area. These guys are and they're entitled to their say. I'm from Asia...I buy all the Asia sceneries produced that you say I don't. It doesn't mean I wouldn't like the high-end developers to do a better qual version that I could buy some day. If your'e not interested in that, there's no need to rant on about whatever you're going on about.
We appreciate that Todd has posted this comment Under its full name.
I have censored an answer to his comment that was quite harsh and anonymous...
