FS9/FSX/P3D. François Dumas, FSADDON+ founder, has posted a very interesting article on Jay interface from AOPA general aviation organisation. It appears that the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) is using FSX/P3D platform for training. And a lot of JAY interface scenarios are created by real pilots/simmers.

AFS Design 787 is certainly used for real world training. :)
Everything depends on how you use the available tools. I am currently making my PPL and I can honestly say, the FS+VATSIM (don't forget about that online flying aspect with ATC) was a great prior-to-real-flying training.

One major thing - when flying FSX/FS9/P3D or whatever you choose - one thing that cannot be ever simulated is the fear of your (or your passengers) loss of life when flying in the real world. No simulator will ever recreate the real world in that way - and thank God too :)
p.s. - I would have survived +1000 crashes by now, and even cats only have 9 lives...
FS is a great IFR tool to practice on, I can understand why it’s used.
And yet Microsoft decided to bail out after FSX. Billy G has so much money he can bloody fund and distribute a new simulator every year for free ;)
Well from my aspect, the real money is in the addons, even look at FSX for example. I believe some or all the initial defaults at least the F18 was done by captainsim. Also note than you needed the multiplayer server, again done out house by Gamespy. The initial platform was roughly $50.00. You than got to pay say Captainsim or other to create the aircraft, and your server hoster. Now look at P3D, they bought the rights from microsoft, so they get the defaults included. And now theirs no multiplayer with the exception of the prior already established servers online. Huge savings right their and look at what their initial purchase price was. It was huge, $200-500.00 or their about's.
But with a lot of simmers complaining ect, they finally relented and created a School package that rings in some where around $40-60.00. Now this being said their still making money. But here's their problem, their Eula will hang them, no real issue persay for the airports. But when it comes to the aircraft, well that's different. If some one was to train on the PMDG 737 let's just say. Than gradutes from flight school has a plane crash ect. Can not the pilot say, well this is how I was trained on the 737 in flight school, and on and on that pilot will chat. than the investigators got to look at the teacher,pilot school, oh and not lets for get the training tools used.
Yes low and behold than PMDG's 737 will be looked at also. If you look on the avsim forums you'll notice a comment on their that states. No PMDG product is supposed to be used on P3D, and if one does get made, cough cough T7. Than it won't be for the school version but the professional version. How they'll get around these Eula's for Pro and not all is beyond me. But P3D is dead in the water from the get go in my opinion, if they can't come to some agreement with PMDG..
That's my rant for the day.
Except you are forgetting about the PMDG 737NGX Introduction manual page 3 which clearly states: "You should also be aware that you may not use this simulation software for any training, pilot familiarization, recurrent training or operational awareness training."
It's funny how people have to find a reason for something to fail...
Reminds me of how many posts I've read about why X-Plane can never survive, or why FSX wasn't going to be able to survive back when it came out.
If you don't like it, don't use it, it really is that simple.
