As many of you perhaps already know, OPUS is a weather engine that's making a significant on the 'realism' front of simulation. Realistic wind GRIB wind targets which are improved lately for Concorde pilots whom fly in the stratosphere. Realistic temperature targets also, make this an impressive add-on for any abid flight simmer.
What impressed me the most, was the accuracy of METAR and TAF data on arrival for each airport. En-route you can see a front system, or a developing squall multiple layers of clouds that merge seamlessly with each other, and without 'cloud popping' during updates.
A MUST have for any simmer who does NOT know about OPUS.
Less of a GUI (graphical user interface) if compared to ASE, however, it does what it says on the tin "generates realistic weather algorithms"

I don't really understand. I can download the 2.81 version for 45 dollars, or i can download the 2.82 beta for free?
My understanding is the BETA is limited compared to a paid version which has FULL functionality.
It seems as a great alternative to Activesky. Tired of planning the landing runway so that later we have AI traffic in-front landing in the opposite runway.
I hear ya - your venting frustrations that we are all / have all experienced. ;)
The beta is just a tool so the developer can correct errors before he releases the correct version but you must own the original since it only modifies some files. The actual version lets you use the official tested release version. It's well worth the money by far the best adding I've ever owned and support is magnificent. Just be sure to follow instructions when you email him.
I can absolutely vouch for this software, having been using it for many weeks (full paíd version). The weather rendering is the best among all the weather add-ons (IMHO). The best part about it is that it renders fog and low visibility very realistically, as well as overcast skies. That's something other programs were not so good at. Just my opinion!
In order for any version to function fully, the software needs to be licensed. So, if you want to use Opus fully, buy it and then install the main licensed version. You can then remove the current stable but you must leave the Opus directory in place, as there are files relating to the licensing in there. You can then install any beta using the same install location and the programme will function as fully licensed. It is the most accurate weather depiction I have seen so far in terms of realism of cloud cover, flying in marginal VFR or IMC. The break out above a cloud layer after take off is very realistic in my mind.

I agree and I also like the cockpit vibrations / effects that come with OPUS which make flying in clouds / turbulence very realistic. ;)
