FSX/P3D. In what will likely be the most sought after product of 2013, John shows us more renders of FTX global. No more confining yourselves to the PNW, Australia, and New Zealand in an effort to keep away from those soggy default FSX textures. This time, the previews head north to Norway! I'm glad as this will pair very well with Bergen Fleasland, Trondheim Vaernes, Stavanger, and Oslo. Hopefully, we'll see some nice VFR airports pop up in the region too! Because, who doesn't want to fly a single engine Cessna over that beautiful landscape?
When we first broke news on this project, we had over 2,500 hits on the post in just a few hours! Clearly the world want's to know more about this project. As more news comes, rest assured, we will get it to you!

lets see if it fixes fsx ´desert´ countries such as italy or spain, looks good though.
I imagine it will since it's fully replacing the landclass textures and I would think the ORBX team manually touch up areas when/where needed.
Only 2 of the pcs looking like the real Norway. Had a nice laugh as I saw the fields at the steep slopes.
Weel, we will see but at the moment no addon what I will buy.
Well, they have the whole world to cover and the point of the product is to get rid of the default landclass textures which are infinitely worse than what ORBX has put to preview so far, so that half the FSX world doesn't look like a desert. It's not intended to be as accurate as one of their regions are, it's intended to bring what upgrades they can on a mass-global scale for the areas of the world that they won't do regions for or don't have a region product ready yet or those areas around the globe no one else has developed/will develop for. I think on the whole, the FTX Global will be worth it, especially considering a good 70-80% of the globe is still default with no other decent development project for those regions in sight, from any developer. Places like Japan, Brazil, etc. I'm even willing to live with the hillside fields in Norway vs the default Norway until someone else develops something better for that region.
Read this comment in the ORBX thread >>> ***This is completely true. If you add all the scenery like Airports of Norway (accurate airports), Norway Scenic X II (coastlines, lakes and rivers), Norway Quality Mesh, and lots of other stuff, with UTX and FTX Global underneath it all, what you will end up with is something that will be equal to an ORBX region. The freeware addons for Norway are absolutely amazing. I can't wait to see all of this come together with Orbx textures*** ----> go to FLIGHTSIM.NO and check out these FREEWARE add on's for Norway - okey it's NOT ORBX but it has been so great to fly in Norway w these FREEWARE add on's for many scandinavian flightsimmers - long time before ORBX was even thinking about this scandianvian country. - Sugiii
What is really needed is a new sim. I'm tired of spending money to upgrade my PC for FSX, especially since it handles every other high end game on the market with ease. This add-on is expensive, will probably take up too much space on my hard drive, and may cause OOM errors when combined with other CPU/GPU intensive add-ons. For example, FSDT CYVR and ORBX does not seem like a good match yet. This is just not worth it for me...I'll pass.
i agree with the first comment - mountains and hills look neat, but what about, say - Indiana or Iowa or Alabama? If that looks more interesting, then success.
A new sim would be ideal, but nothing in the pipeline for at least a few years, we've got to have fun with what we've got.
I don't think people really understand this. These are just replacement textures for the default textures. No hit whatsoever on your computer. Of course this won't be perfect in all areas, but just look at the transformation.
Some comparison shots I found on ORBX forums:
http://simmerhead.wordpress.com/orbx-vs-fsx/
1. Replaces FSX default textures, simple install and forget
2. They said it will be < 5GB in size
3. It costs LESS than GEX (6 regions x $44 = $270) versus $195
4. It looks much better than GEX does (it's Orbx!!!)
5. I can add any mesh, landclass, freeware airports and more
6. They will add free DLC every month for life
7. Did I say it was from Orbx?
Conclusion: it sounds like the must-buy product for 2013 - IMHO a no-brainer
Agreed 100%
