The New AirDailyX Goes Live!

[New Website Launch] A month late and a day early! Dear friends, dear loyal readers. Today I hereby present you with the new platform that will carry AirDailyX into the future. It has been a pleasure serving you all on this blog over the years and it's time for a positive change. I keep talking about how our developers continue to improve upon their crafts and it's time I did the same. I do hope you all will come with me and celebrate the future of ADX. It's in beta so please feel free to give me as much feedback as possible. I do hope you enjoy it and I look forward to more years together as we continue to enjoy this wonderful hobby of ours!

Yours Sincerely,

D'Andre Newman

Congratulations, D'Andre! It looks awesome!
I do have some small suggestions:

- Make the top banner a clickable home button
- Add titles to the interviews to make readers more easily interested in a certain one
- Combine the different 'review' section to one 'drop down menu' (tree structure)
- The trending weekly headlines are not clickable, it this correct?
- Would it be possible to replace the social media logo with the default ones? It would it a bit clearer for (new) users. Maybe add a title like 'Find us elsewhere"...

Are there any plans for adding a forum?

Anyway, it think this is the start of a new era for this awesome news platform and community. :)

Lets go!!! :)

Hi KLM, there are some limitations currently. The main banner is not clickable at this time but i'll look into it for the future.

The interviews page is still under development. You will see the corrections soon.

I got a lot of advice not to use dropdown menus. But there is the "pages" tab. I just need to make it alphabetical.

The trending headlines photo is not clickable (another limitation I am working on) but clicking on the title will send you to the news page.
I think my media icons are self explanatory. I specifically choose not to use default icons because that's exactly what everyone else does.

As for the forum, I am not sure yet. I still have to filter a lot of crap from people who troll the site. I am very tired of moderating out their BS. I'll need to run a petition to see just how many people who would actually sign up for the forum. And moderators would be needed daily!

Thanks much for the feedback!

When I try to zoom in on the site, everything becomes unreadable or messy, I cant see anything coz the advertisements blends together on the screen & hides the text....never seen this one before?

DAndre Newman said...

Why are you trying to zoom in??

Great job D'Andre! I like it!

Site's decent, much better than crapsim.net..

one thing though - Please make it so we'll be able to scroll through the pictures inside the articles and not have to click on each freaking picture (make it like its in here where you only have to click on the image to go to the next one)

Great job and congrats.

Congrats,

Months ago it seems AirDaily could dissappear and now you have done it even better. I like the new version very much. A lot of information and much better organized. It was a necessary step, but don't try to do much work at a time, your web has become as necessary to me as my joystick. The fist step of a flight, whatelse is a visit to AirdailyX :)

Great job d'Andre!!

Greg said...

Hi,
Nice, thank you.
Will we need to update our shortcuts or will you put an autoredirecting page from adx.com to adx.net?

Stanislaw said...

The new site is visibly a real good thing, but technically the worst I had since a few months. On my workstation PC with Mozilla Firefox it loads really slow and let Mozilla freeze the screen. On my iPad I have the same problem. The site freezes up the ipad and after loading Safari just closes down. Please fix this!

DAndre Newman said...

So far this is the second complaint from a firefox user. No performance complaints otherwise besides the mobile version. Im aware of the mobile issues. As stated before, mobile apps will be released in the coming months. Thanks for the feedback.

DAndre Newman said...

@ greg, you will need to figure out for yourself how you will navigate to the new site. You have the URL, the rest is up to you. If you can get here, you can get there.

spoon said...

Congrats on the new site! My on only complaint is having to click each picture. Like one of the previous comments mentioned, make it so we can click the picture to get to the next one.

DAndre Newman said...

@spoon, that's a current limitation, linking the lightboxes. I'll add it to the list. If I create a gallery for you to scroll, you wont be able to enlarge the images and I felt having the full res images was more important.

Alex said...

Hey Andre I have the same problem like Stanislaw. Really weird that the page is hanging that much. Do you maybe have a solution for this? (Except using another browser).

DAndre Newman said...

At this point I do not have a fix. It's a FireFox browser compatibility issue. I recommend Chrome for the time being until I can discover the cause of the problem.

Marco said...

Nice site but with Some performance issues.
Loading is very slow on safari and Firefox browser.
Site freezes most of the time.

DAndre Newman said...

Desktop Safari? Or mobile Safari?

DAndre Newman said...

I made adjustments to mobile versions. Please test and tell me it it still freezes up.

Aw Man... I was hoping for a community forum.

Kinda burned out on what has become a discourteous nature over at AVSIM. Hell, I spend more time at the SimHQ civil aviation section now. Oh well.

Very well done - great improvement!

Thank you.

Greg said...

Ok, seen, thus shortcuts updated :)
Thanks for your nice job.

Thanks for the compliments! Happy to help.

What addon is the plane that is the image for the ADXfirstlook tab?

Stanislaw said...

Andre, the change you made makes Safari load the new ADX faster on iOS but it still hangs a few seconds before it loads the complete webpage. The same counts for Firefox on Windows. I did not run a check at onlinewebcheck.com and got 26 errors and 14 warnings about airdailyx.net. Maybe you check that page to find the errors?

Marco said...

Freezes are gone now, but the new website is still loading slow on desktop and mobile safari browsers. Hope you are able to fix this. Thanks!

DAndre Newman said...

My best recommendation is to use Chrome.

Thomas said...

I like the visual improvements, however, some sections load very slowly even on Chrome (i.e. the exclusives), the rendering on mobile devices is quite inconsistent and to be honest the start page itself is rather useless in terms of information value. If you would place the fsnewsbreaker content directly under the main url it would imo make so much more sense.

DAndre Newman said...

Hi Thomas,

I'm aware of the exclusives page and the slow loading. It's odd that it wants to load the bottom of the page first instead of the top. I'm working on that. As for mobile devices, no matter what I do, it's going to look and perform like crap which is why as I have said many times before I am having mobile apps developed.

As for the home page, it is here to stay. If you want to go direct to the news page, you will just have to bookmark that page and go there directly. News is not the only thing I put hard work into and I prefer a page that reflects all the offerings ADX has. There is no better page than the home page to display that info.

ADX is no longer the "FS NewsBreaker" as Dom created it to be. It is the FS Resource now which means news is simply one of ADX's many offerings. On the blog, you would be amazed at how many never knew we had a reviews page because they're eyes would be trained to the first article instead of the bar showing the different pages.

Besides, one of things I am looking to do with the new ADX is have a friendly and informational place for newcomers to flight simulation and not just cater to the advanced folks. So there will be more useful information on that home page in the future. If you were new to the hobby and if the news page was the first page you came across, you might be confused as hell. I know I would be. Thanks for the feedback. One thing you can count on though, is my affinity to still break the news faster and more frequently than any other site. That is what you all have come to rely on and that will not change. :)

@FIGHTING: It's the QW Avro heavily edited in PS.

Hello,

With Opera, sometimes a click on a picture blocks all: for example the news concerning the M2000. If I click on 1 of the 3 pictures below the bigger, nothing happens and the browser is blocked. to get back the control.

If I click on the first pix to see the news, OK. Then if I click below, then a bigger picture is displayed but only if I'm at the top of the news. If I was on the bottom, nothing happened, and in fact it seems that the picture is zoomed but cannot be displayed => I can't close the pix with a click.

Hopping that's clear :)
And that could be improve for the ones that have choosen Opera to surf on the web :)

In all cases, thank you in advance!

DAndre Newman said...

Hi Greg,

Thanks so much for your feedback! Sadly, Opera is not a currently supported browser. Too few are using it. If fact, according to the tracking, less than 1% of users are using Opera compared to over 50% using Chrome with an audience size of approx 9,000 users. But I will do my best to look into it when i have time but it will be down the line.

An interesting stat though. On the blog here out of 5,878,880 total page views, 135,659 were from opera users. Even though that's about 2% overall, it's worth looking into at some point.

Greg said...

LOL, OK, I understand :)
No pb, I will wait...
Thank you for your prompt answer.

Stanislaw said...

I do not understand why you are always refer to use another browser. I use Mozilla for years now and never ever had a problem on any page. This is really the first time this occurred to me. And since it is not only Mozilla who does these weird things but also Safari, Opera,.. I would ask myself why that is like this if I were you. Also I mentioned you where the problems are on my last reply. So why don't you try to fix first of all these errors and then move onwards instead if adding (old) reviews,etc.. and that most people cannot even load your page? Sorry if I sound angry but sometimes I cannot understand people. Everybody wants his homepage and instead of using proven and good website systems like Joomla, wordpress,... people always want to cook their own cake and mostly it goes like this into the wrong direction. :)

DAndre Newman said...

You can also go elsewhere. Since you want to accuse me of not working on the issues you stated. 15,000 people are accessing the site daily and out of that, about less than a handful are complaining. I have a full plate of work to do on the site aside from those with picky browsers. I am aware of the errors and they will be fixed when I can adequately fix them. Sorry it's not moving fast enough for you so you can just not come back and that way you won't feel so upset.

Here is what I don't understand: Why are some people so damn impatient bitchy whining brats on the internet.

Stanislaw said...

Hell yeah, I could go somewhere else but I feel comfy here. I like the way you bring the news, reviews,.. and finally as developer it is necessary to see what people think about things you've created so going somewhere else is ok, but not really good. Also instead of that really low argument with the people who visit your site: don't you mind that maybe a lot do not even know where to ask? Don't you mind that other ones does not know that these lags are from the website? That you work hard is really true. I mean who does not do this??? But it would be more effective to first get the website 1000% working instead of starting somewhere else and that your basis is so corrupt. Or wait I show you an example: I do sceneries. Consider my 3dsmax model is done but it looks like shit in FSX. When I redo the textures and put them up to to the highest resolution available, will not change anything. It will still (and forever until I redo the model) look like shit

DAndre Newman said...

Mr. Stanislaw, until the issues are corrected, once again, I reccommend using another browser. I.e. Chrome. Many have reported the site works just fine despite the errors. Im not a web developer. I am learning as I go. Thus, you are just going to have to wait till i have it all figured out. The reason the site was launched in its current state was because I had to make a decision. I could no longer split my time between the 2 sites. So i got the new site working on a manner where the overwelhmimg majority could use it. Thebalternative would have been stopping all the news and daily updates altogether. I only have so much time in a day sir. I wave a full time job and family to look after. So you are just going to have to use chrome which takes 2 minutes out of your life or wait till i can get the issues resolved and deal with it. Having pointless conversations like this only take more of that precious time.
