FSX/P3D. Yes. That's what they are calling it. HiFi Technoligies, makers of ActiveSky and ActiveSky Evolution have set out to develop the next generation of their highly popular weather and texture software. I could try and explain it to you, but I think it's best to differ to their explanation. Have a look. Thanks to Ypaul for the tipoff!

Oh my god thats awesome !!!! Can't wait !!! Do you know if I'll have to pay again if I already purchase AS2012 ?
at the very least an upgrade fee one would assume.
No, it's a free upgrade and they will also give you US$ 50 for being a loyal customer :P
I might be mistaken, but as far as I know this is very old news. The link is referring to a topic from oktober 2012, or am I wrong ?
NO. the user registered to the forum in october 2012, but the message was posted TODAY.
gosh.
I just saw my mistake... silly of me. Excuse me, please.
I wonder if they managed to fix this rendering bug where clouds can suddenly appear vertically stretched or when clouds render in extremely low altitudes, touching the ground and mountains. It's not a bug (the low altitude rendering) but it needs some work to become seamless with terrain.
If you want a weather program that keeps up with users demands try REX Essentials. I have been with these guys for several years and beta test for them. I have not come across a better weather program for FSX and I have tried them all. ActiveSky is subpar in my book.
Weather depiction in FSX has been a game of leap frog with at least 5 serious players. Some developers have a strategy of continuous updates, improvements coming in small increments. (Opus) Others wait until they have put together a huge new feature set and release a new product. (ActiveSky and REX). Either way, we simmers are the winners. Weather depiction keeps getting better and better. If Active Sky Next is as good as advertised, I'll be making my 6th weather add-on purchase for FSX very soon.
There is nothing subpar about Active Sky 2012 and I find their weather engine vastly superior to anything REX has ever offered.
FS Global Real Weather is currently the best no frills weather engine out there, and it will be interesting to see if Active Sky will be able to top what FS Global Real Weather currently offers.
The one thing that all weather engines have not managed to fix is the Parkinson's syndrome that low lying clouds have. If there is one weather element that totally kills the immersion and realism factor, then it's the horrible quivering of clouds in FSX and Prepar3D.
Perhaps Damian Clark will chip in here and answer this very important question.
The only thing that would make me invest in a new weather engine for FSX and Prepar3D at present, is if the shaking clouds get fixed.
As Matthias already pointed out, this seems to be the one last element that none of the weather engine developers have managed to fix up to now.
Does anyone know if Active Sky Next will get rid of the horrible shaking cloud problem?
Could anyone please enlighten me (if not others) on what exactly the 'shaking cloud problem' in FSX/P3D is??
I don't recall experiencing shaking clouds...
opus fsx rulez them all!
+1
I have a video here to show this:
http://youtu.be/w3ZPdpZkA-8
You can see that some of the low lying clouds, especially in the distance once the camera zooms in, are flashing or shaking. The cloud texture appears and disappears many times per second and this flashing or shaking is the single most annoying thing about FSX and Prepar3D weather depiction.
