Mouth Water!!

FS9/FSX/P3D. This is the scenery package I am most looking forward to this year! Not only will it include the entire island of Manhattan in unprecedented detail, but it will also include several NY area airports in HIGH detail: JFK, EWR, LGA, LDJ, TEB, and CDW. It's very exciting! And for those concerned over performance issues in FSX/P3D, our advice is only activate the sceneries you will use for your flight plan. We also have the first alphas of the surrounding photoscenery! Looking great!

Does anyone know if they are planning for some autogen and 3D objects *OUTSIDE* of Manhattan as well? IMO, it will looking amazing, but a bit out of place if Manhattan is in high detail and the surrounding area is a flat photoscenery. (Don't want to hear about the performance gripes that would bring, that's up to each user to tweak and deal with, I just want to hear the answer to the question is asked).

The terminal modelling looks fantastic!

Why don't you ask this at DD Forum then?: http://drzewiecki-design.net/forum

I'm sure the guys over there, and maybe even Stanislaw himself, will be happy to put you out of suspense.

This isn't going to run very well is it? Their Miami package was extreamley slow & there was nothing there!

Alright. That is the last comment im going to allow about performance. Its common sense now. If you own other D.Design sceneries then you are aware their products have good performance and as I already said, only activate the particular part of the scenery you will actually use for a particulr flight if you are so worried. Its no different than if you were to buy all these sceneries seperate from different developers. So with that said, we are killing the performance topic. The horse is beaten dead.

And remember, the Miami was an Intersim project D.Design bought the product in late stages only to learn of its issues in the 11th hour. It was modeled using a program not compatable with FS. So DD learning of this after they bought it made every effort to repair and compete the package and sold it at a very reasonable price which they likely lost money on. And the performance works fine on my rig. You will fing my review of it in our reviews section.

DAndre, let me please just comment that to end the discussion.

Come on guys. Sceneries of cities are always the most complex and demanding products on the FS market. Especially cities which come together with airports. We often complain that FPS are low on SINGLE-AIRPORT sceneries! Here we have the high quality mega-city and miltiple airports. How is it that you would expect it to perform better than a single-airport scenery? I really don't get it! You would like to have something impossible - an amazing quality scenery product with 50 FPS on max sliders (yeah, full autogen!), small download size and a small price (or for free). That is simply not possible. NOT POSSIBLE!

Again: city sceneries are THE MOST complex products. There is nothing in FS that would use all your hardware as much as sceneries of whole cities. Just think about that prior to writing anything about performance.

What DD is doing about NY has probably never been done and might even be the most complex (dense) scenery package on the FS market. I would expect it to be heavy. But knowing DD, I believe that this package will perform even better than some single-airport sceneries available!

And, what's most exciting, he's doing these for FS9--for those of us that can't possibly see the point of leaving a dead (but still perfectly good) platform for another dead platform. Well done DD!

Now...and I'll just put this out there...there are some fine cities in the Pacific North West too...with lots of little hopper fields...just sayin'...

Regardless, this is a guy I'll support.

As someone who travels to NY every year, I do hope so. Important areas I would like to see are Brooklyn Heights where there are several tall buildings, Long Island City, Downtown Jersey City, and Rockaway Beach which is directly under the 4L approach at JFK which includes lots of buildings.

AirdailyX 'shutting down' any talk about performance smacks of commercial bias.

This is a BIG project, and mentioning performance concerns is a very valid topic, considering the default area of New York is well known to be a 'FPS trouble' area like Seattle/Paris, without any addons...

Please dont become like AVSIM!, there are a LOT of us that have been banned from AVSIM for stupid little things, and we appreciate the free thought that happens on this website, it is very refreshing......... but only while it lasts, this talk of 'shutting down' certain discussion smacks a little of bias (commercial even)

DAndre Newman said...

It's freaking common sense dude. The complaints are not about individual sceneries, the complaints are about everything working together. And as I said before, the beat the dead horse already. There is no bias. If people want to talk performance, that's fine but lets not be a broken record.

DAndre Newman said...

Yes a valid topic when discussed in a valid way. But the topic of performance is becoming whining and I don't care for that. Sure, let's talk about performance, but based on the individual sceneries. i.e. I wonder how the D.Design performance will compare with FSDT KJFK. Or how the Manhattan island will hold up when the Aerosoft version dragged frames using mostly default buildings.

Stuff like that sure, but all I am seeing is the same stuff about all the sceneries working together in FSX. And we get it already...

Actually, the complaints, and the addressing of those complaints, again involves software that has not been released yet. That, to me, is the definition of daft.

Moreover, addressing as empty and pointless a comment as 'this isn't going to run very well is it?' is also rather daft. If you're inclined to voice displeasure, then why not simply write 'I'll respond the moment you have an actual point or question. In the meantime it's not nice to waste bandwidth with speculative rubbish.'

Maybe ADX needs to consider hiring someone who's rather expert on the technical, hardware resources side of scenery design. You know, who's writing nice, clean design code, optimizing efficiently, etc. That would be interesting.

Let's not just fly these sceneries at ADX, let's reverse engineer them! :)

DAndre Newman said...

What like hacking products? No we won't hire someone to do that. That is not our place. Our position is to present them as they are in a honest and fair manner to the community.

DAndre Newman said...

But I like the thought of having someone who understands scenery design and code in depth. That would be cool. Perhaps a thought for the future.

Anonymous said...

Ooops 'Reverse engineer' = poor choice of words.

No--not hack in any criminal sense--just have a look behind the scenes to offer insight as to how they're made, what design platforms are being used, how that helps/hurts the final product, etc.

It's one thing to have dancing shadows and pigeons--but if that turns out to chew excessive clock cycles & is only workable on 3% of the world's PCs then I'd argue it's not reasonably made.

Let's see who's doing it right!

Hi D'Andre! Could you please ask Stan, if they will include night building textures on New York City X or not? Thanks in advance!

DAndre Newman said...

Sure. I know many buildings will have night textures. But a lot of the smaller buildings might not. Its thousands of buildings so ill see if we can get a better answer on that.

Thanks for your quick response! Can't wait for this addon.
