Orbx FTX Scotland - Sneak Peak + More Info!

FSX/P3D. Inside a recent Orbx forum thread John Venema has posted several POI model preview captures from FTX Scotland! Moreover, the release will include a photoreal downtown Edinburgh as a "sweetener - similar concept to the Cardiff Airport sweetener included with the Wales release. FTX Scotland was scheduled to enter beta late March early April. See more inside...

Several quotations from John Venema regarding FTX Scotland:
------------------------------------------
"SCO will feature a photoreal downtown Edinburgh as the "sweetener". Lots of POI models from 29Palms are already done and look great!"
------------------------------------------
"Nothing to show yet, we'll be in beta by the end of March or early April."
------------------------------------------

Now, some POI model images:

very upset.

Orbx promised KSEA?

I thought is was PDX or GEG they were planning back then...

I know they had an initial agreement with the FlightZone Portland developer but it fell through.

I hope they include AI parking spots for the airports. You can have all kinds of "flow", but without "aircraftflow" it's pretty dead.

Nice models, but is all the other stuff done by SIM720 still?, after Wales my trust for this mob is shot

Oh how I miss Vouchez...

It was KPDX that they promised and they never had as agreement with Vauchez (FlightZone). John V. said in a post where that rumor came up that they have never even spoken to Vauchez, it was all just a rumor that had somehow started just because they were working on the PNW package. In fact Vauchez was well out of the hobby by then.

Why what do you think is wrong with FTX Wales?

A lot when they came to europe. The quality was way better before FTX EU. When I look at the gound textures my stomach just turns. PNW and all other US based regions, including NZSI & NZNI look ORBX quality but now that they let other non ORBX people create things they lost track of what they used to be. ORBX used to be the best scenery developers which put themselves in a different place, these days they are just like any other developer. They prefer quantity over quality!!!

Is it a personal preference of yours over quality of ground textures? Or can you point to specific technical or quality differences? I haven't used any others before Europe so I can't compare... Is it just the ground textures or other things as well? K

They actually came very close to a formal agreement - see below for John Venema's quote:

"Stephane was talking to Orbx about doing KPDX for PNW and we got to the contract stage but then he hibernated again. I called off the arrangement since its hard working with someone who does not communicate frequently enough. To be honest I don't think his heart was really in going back to FS development.

Having said that his KPDX for FS9 was way ahead of its time, no doubt about that at all."

Agreed. As just one example, take a screen shot from about a thousand feet of the EU and PNW urban textures. Quite a difference, and something I noticed immediately when I first loaded England.

Try their NZ or NA stuff, you'll notice the difference is not just the ground detail but the way its placed too in relation to the real world

Their NZ/NA stuff is made by their very experienced team who have been around for years, and it clearly shows. Orbx need to be careful of their reputation IMO
